great place for an overnight
Allen Jan 24, 2010
We were only there for an overnight before our flight. The only down side was that they charged $14/night parking (the one in ... Hartford, Ct. let us park for 9 nights for free!). Had we known this, we would have dropped the car off early and used their shuttle service. Other than that the stay was great. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant, which was a little on the pricier side, but very good.

Problems and solutions

There was a problem with the reservation and when I asked to speak to a manager the person at the desk said he was the ... manager. Then he wanted time to figure it out. I said just give me a refund and I will move on. I did check in...and awaited his "research"..only to be told he talked to a manager and that I would not be given a food credit...which was the reason I booked this hotel. I said he was wrong and I wanted to talk to the manager directly. This person wanted me to do a lot of work to prove the reservation and I said no...you can do it..and explained it again. A little while later he wanted a printed confirmation..so I went to their business center and provided one...it was obvious that the room rates had changed from my booking and nothing matched. Eventually this person gave me two breakfast buffets in lieu of a $50 food credit...that was about $30...and I just wanted to go to sleep so I accepted. The next morning after my shower I stepped out to the bedroom and onto what turned out to be a cork...thank goodness it was not glass..but it did give me shock. I took the cork to the front desk and gave it to the person there...he said thank you..I said I guess you don't want the room number...oh yes...only after I mentioned it. I think the desk help were just picked up off the street. They had no clue about customer service. The hotel was empty...if was Christmas weekend...so there was no buffet so I ordered off the menu...I waited that to be a problem..it was not... Since it was empty at least they could have given me a room with a view..but no I had a view of the roof...like I said no customer service. With so many hotels in the area..I will book another hotel next time. I will be traveling to this area in the future on a regular basis and was hoping to find a nice place...but not the way I was treated...

The hotel offers a free shuttle but be sure to ask the front desk to confirm the time. The shuttle was due to start service at 5:30PM however the driver was running late. As a goodwill gesture, a cab was ordered and paid for by the hotel.

Great Experience
mmg Nov 10, 2009
The overall experience was great. When my husband and I were leaving, waiting for the shuttle to take us to the airport, a ... large corporate group came out and took up the entire shuttle. Seeing that we would be left behind, the individuals behind the desk didn't wait for us to ask,but went ahead and called for alternative transportation for us, which was gratis. Now that is customer service.

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel and it is a "keeper". I would definitely stay here again. Went to OC ... fairgrounds to the swap meet and went shopping at South Coast Plaza and at the Santa Ana mall. I used to live in the area and enjoyed the visit.

Nitpicking. Oct 7, 2009
Some staffers acted like they don't see you or you're not good enough to be here. When I walked into the restaurant to eat ... breakfast this one waiter looked at me like "What do you want?". When I checked out the staffer said "Ok, everything has been paid and there are no other charges". and that was it. The bathroom sink's upper drain holes was dirty and you can see it in the mirror.

"Unbeatable location for the price"
MAG Aug 18, 2009
It was late Saturday afternoon when I was to check in. I was lost, called the hotel, and the young woman who answered ... navigated me to the site. Once I arrived, the young man at the front desk (I believe his name was [...]) tempered his total professionalism with a very friendly attitude. I may not have been the first guest at the Double Tree, nor was I the last; but they treated me like I was their only and most important customer to stay there. When I returned from being out late that evening, I had some issues with finding parking. The gentleman at the front desk not only directed me to where I could park across the street at a garage where spaces are reserved, he also made sure to ask me if everything was fine with me when I came back into the hotel after having found the garage. With all major hotels providing, essentially, the same sort of bedding and amenities, the difference comes in customer service. I found in the Double Tree staff, service that is second to NONE. The staff definitely travels along the road where the traffic is very light the extra mile.

Very convenient location
Angela Feb 25, 2008
The Doubletree Santa Ana was very comfortable, the room size was average with a desk and chair for writing or business ... purposes. However, I was disappointed in the dining options at the restaurant. Since it was Sunday evening, there were also no other local dining options. I would recommend staying on the weekdays for the best value.

Nice Place
Daniel Jun 18, 2007
This hotel is a very nice place, with comfortable rooms. Close by is an excellent pizza place. The pool area is fairly ... small, and someone had trashed the area before we came out, including pulling out the pool light. However, when informed the front desk immediately reported the maintanence issue. Hallway maintanence was lacking as room service trays and left behind fast food cups were in the hallways for a day or more. I wish this hotel would be the first to be upfront on their website about their parking fees $14 a night per vehicle, however this does get you a nice covered spot in their garage. Overall, this is a very nice place to stay, not exactly family friendly, maybe a better place for the single couple or business traveler.
