Decent hotel convenient to UChicago
Another Chicago visitor Oct 28, 2009
Hotel was decent, clean. Staff were quite friendly and helpful. Rooms are small, no sitting table and when sitting at desk, ... no room to walk past to get to closet. WiFi available only in lobby. Not enough electrical outlets around desk (all were used by TV, lamp, refrigerator, clock). In-room refrigerator was nice touch. Very nice restaurant, good seafood buffet for the one evening meal we had there.

Because the University of Chicago is so close to the hotel, there are plenty of eateries, large and small, for any taste, breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Cafe Florian, Mello Yellow, and Giordano's are my favorites!

Close and Convenient
Lady Boss Oct 26, 2009
The reason for my visit to Chicago was to attend events at the University of Chicago, located at 57th and Woodlawn. I chose ... to stay at the Ramada Lake Shore--instead of a more luxurious hotel downtown--because I'd stayed there in the past, and due to its proximity to the University. The rooms were actually larger than they were back in the late 1990s when I first stayed there. Other than a roach that I found in my bathroom on the morning of my departure, I was pleased with the accommodations. I was very happy with the staff, as they accommodated my needs by providing my room to me at 1:30 instead of the usual 3:00 check-in time (this prevented me from sleeping in the lobby while I waited!). Even when I left early Sunday morning, the manager on duty reinforced my driving directions to O'Hare. There were also pamplets with shopping discounts, maps, and all the latest information on the sites of the city. My favorite restaurant, Giordano's, was even in the hotel directory! I will certainly be staying there again when I go back to Chicago.

Different from what they said earlier
Neuro Oct 23, 2009
Everything was different from what was written on the wabsite. At the time of reservation, they said they have free courtesy ... service to McCormick convention center and free wireless interent access in every room. We were so happy about the courtesy service that we booked a room without hesitation. When we got there, they said they don't have any available room for us because there was water leakage in the building. They trasferred us to their sister hotel which is located more than 20 mile away from Ramada. We came back to Ramada the next day in the morning. We had to spend extra time and energy to pack and bring our luggages but still tried to understand their situation until we figured out that they don't have any courtesy service to convention center because rooms were not booked up!! In addition, wireless internet wasn't working in anywhere in the hotel.

Very far away from downtown/McCormick
akko Oct 23, 2009
Metra service is unreliable and infrequent and it's just too far to walk from the hotel to the McCormick Convention center so ... the only option in the evening is a taxi - about $20 from downtown. I was initially put in a room without internet even though I made the decision to book based on free wifi in my room. I was only moved to a room with wifi after a couple of days.

The rooms were clean and quiet, and the bathroom was updated, but when you were in the bathroom you could hear very clearly ... what your neighbors were saying in their room. Desk staff was not particularly helpful and with directions. On site dining very expensive for quality of food.

If you are willing to use public transportation, most attractions (museums, Mag Mile, etc.) are accessible with walking up to a mile from a bus/train stop. Chicago is a great town to visit, many things to do, but you need to be familar with the area if you stay at this hotel.

The location was good and the public transportation was awesome but the stuff was unfriendly except for 1 lady who worked in ... the evening. When I asked her questions she answered me but I had problems in the morning because the stuff during the day was not friendly and they were not helpful. The CTA public transportation customer line Helped a lot because they gave me directions and information about the bus and that helped me a lot.The weather was cold and raining and The air conditioner only worked with cold air and the room was freezing cold.Compared to my previous trips I would never stay in this Hotel again.

Concert-goer Sep 14, 2009
Needed a reasonably priced hotel not too far from downtown (concert at Soldier field). Older building but very friendly ... staff, updated bathroom but older furnishings in room. Free parking. Everything was fine but room location was right next to exterior entrance so that is sounded like someone was about to enter your room when coming in from outside. Exterior doors did not fit well. Directly along South Lake Shore Drive but was quiet where our room was. Could not get wi-fi in room (lived without for a day). Bottom line: may not be for the fussier traveler but very good price/location combination for someone needing to put their head.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the smoking section of the hotel. The room above us sounded like we were at "Romper Room" or a ... school playground!! There had to be at least 6 children who jumped up and down on the beds all day. During the evening hours, they jumped around the floor like they were at a playground. We heard the adult cursing (foul language) all night long trying to make the children go to sleep. I never really slept and had a terrible headache the next day!

Disgusting carpet stains
Wredna Polka Jul 30, 2009
We went to see Harry Potter at the Museum of Science & Industry. The room was clean where it was remodelled, but even in the ... brand new bathroom, the air vent was caked with dust. The carpet in the room was so stained, I was afrid we would catch something. No tissues in the room. Overflowing garbage can in the garage. Negligent service in the restaurant: waiter never came back to ask if we needed anything after serving us. We had to catch someone else to get a bill.
