World Class (and Second Rate) Hotel

We were there to visit WDW for 3 days, and were looking for a Disney Resort in order to make our stay easier. We have stayed ... at WDW many times, and found this was a lackluster experience. Comparing the hotel to an Ocean Liner of the 1920's, the Lobby was First Class; but once we left the lobby, we found ourselves in steerage. The corridors (exterior) were ugly and not clean. The room was adequate; however, we could clearly hear the people in either side of us and in the outside corridor. Although the bathroom appeared to be quite clean, we found a vague, lingering urine odor. It turned quite cold while we were there, and we found it impossible to heat the bathroom area without making the rest of the space stifling. Furthermore, the thermostat, which regulated the heat very poorly (it would get very hot, and then very cold before it cycled back on) was so noisy we turned it off at night altogether (so as not to be awakened each time it turned on). We were particularly displeased with the $15.00 per day (plus tax and fees) "Resort Fee" (which was listed as payment for such "luxuries" as the in-room safe, the parking, the transportation to WDW, wireless internet access, etc. etc.) Altogether, this came to just over $50.00 for a 3-night stay. I would find it difficult to justify a stay at Regal Sun Resort again. While the location was good, we have had much more pleasant experiences than this for not much more money.

The location of this hotel is great; the price is right. The cleaning is bad. We had sticky goo on the floor for 3 days. ... The toilet water ran constantly and in one of our rooms the heat/air could not be controlled and it was freezing. They have a lot of work to do. Staff was not helpful.

Great Family Hotel Pricey Concession
OB Wan Kenobi Nov 27, 2009
We had a great stay at the Regal Sun. Location couldn't have been better. Kids loved the pool and the rooms and staff were ... great. Price was a good value. The concessions in the lobby were absurdly priced, more expensive than Disney. A small continental breakfast for four cost $45, more than twice the cost of a better breakfast at Starbucks. Someone should really look at this because it is serious price gauging.

Honestly i was disappointed with the hotel. My husband and I travel 5-6 times a year and i was not impressed at all. When we ... arrived the rooms were not exactly what i was expecting. I had 2 rooms to accomadate my enormous family. The phone didnt work in one, the tiolet didnt work in the other. There was a leak that soaked the floor in one room and we only got new rooms because i demanded it. The hotel manager didnt even call to offer an apology or anything for my inconvience of having to pack 7 poeople in 10 min to move. Not what i would have thought for a Disney type hotel. The pool was great and i love the location but honestly i wouldnt stay at this hotel when i come next November. One last thing i had to call to have my room cleaned one day as they passed by me and only did one of my rooms. None of the bathroom amenities were filled up either.

It's A Hotel
Roberto Pepin Nov 10, 2009
Overall I was happy with the hotel given what I was doing there. Great Location with easy access and plenty of parking. The ... absolute best Hotel Bed I have had in my many years of traveling. Front desk service was very good with friendly staff. The bartender in the lounge could use a tune up as he wasn't the friendliest. Perhaps dealing with tourists all day has something to do with that. The walls of the room were a bit thin as we were woken up by our neighbors one morning (before 7). I would stay there again but I think if I were with children there are better Disney options.

Vacation Mom Nov 10, 2009
The hotel lobby and main tower were updated and very modern and nice but our hotel room in the attached building was anything ... but. It was very old and small...the latch on the door was broken, the tub was very stained, there were no drinking glasses in our room. For this reason (despite the low price), I would not stay there again unless I was to receive an updated room. Thankfully the pool was nice for the kids.

NOT A 4 STAR HOTEL
Rick Nov 3, 2009
Let me start by stating that this is no 4 star hotel it may get to a 2 star, the hotel has a main tower and on both sides ... have wings in which our room was assigned this wings have the look of a cheap motel when we got to the room the card key didn't even work, we went back to the reception and asked to be placed in a room in the main tower which they charge us extra we head up to the room and in the hallway even the wall paper is falling down, room not up to a 4 star hotel standards and if it wasn't because we had pre-paid the reservation we would have stay somewhere else, This hotel is in a bad need for a renovation the staff was friendly but don't have a good product to work with, we choose this hotel based on the star rating but that information is deceiving, I would not recomend this hotel to any friends or family and we will not come back to this hotel, thank god we only went to sleep at the hotel.

Attended a conference in a nearby hotel. This resort was about half the price and of comparable quality. Free and ... hassle-free internet, though not blazingly fast. In-room coffee not supplied consistently. No free breakfast. Food overpriced. Real grocery store is about a mile down the road -- relatively easy walk. Large in-room fridge was a big help for breakfast & coffee. Pool was nice but a bit small for laps (about 55 feet long). Electronic keys. Hassle-free checkout. Big room, including small kitchen/work table.

We stayed in a standard room on the side of the hotel which is attached to the high rise newer building. It appeared to be a ... much older building, and as a result was not modern, open and airy that we would expect in Florida. We did not have an opportunity to view the newer rooms in the high rise but would imagine they would be much better which might be a factor to be considered when booking The room was average, clean and provided a sizeable refrigerator along with a coffeemaker. There was no charge for parking and it was close to the rooms. The location provided excellent access to Downtown Disney but there is just a view of the parking lot. If you are looking for a clean, no-frills room, it's fine.

Downtown Disney Fan Oct 26, 2009
This hotel was listed as a 4 star, but it didn't live up to that reputation. Most of the rooms were motel style walk up with ... exterior entrances. The room was clean for the most part. Some staining of the tile grout. The cable outlet was broken and missing, and the room was pretty small. Lots of small dirty spots on other doors within the complex. The pool area was great and the staff were friendly. If you are expecting a luxurious 4 star...look elsewhere.

[...] Three characteristics of this particular hotel made the decision to stay in Orlando ... instead of my hometown of Tampa ... ... a no-brainer. Free self parking, the huge resort-style pool with poolside bar/restaurant and last, but certainly not least, the Regal sun is located a short five-minute walk from the Rainforest Cafe end of Downtown Disney. Our group of 10-20 paddlers from Tampa were able to take advantage of all three selling points during our two-night stay. We could have driven 70 miles to Downtown Disney from Tampa the morning of the event and back home immediately afterwards, but the rate, location and amenities of the Regal Sun allowed us all to enjoy an inexpensive weekend away from home.To summarize, the Regal Sun offers destination resort amenities without destination resort pricing. A person or family from outside the State of Florida could fly in, take a shuttle to the hotel and enjoy their time in Orlando without the need for an expensive rental car. Because of the wonderful pool, they wouldn't even need to leave the property!

The Regal Sun is located a short walk from Downtown Disney, which has a variety of family and adult nightlife options to choose from. The fact that you can access all of this without the need to get in a vehicle and drive is a HUGE benefit. On-site, free scheduled shuttle service to the Disney parks is a great incentive to stay here, as well.
