Eh, it was ok.
Super Traveler Nov 30, 2009
So to start, the hotel was in a fantastic location. It is located downtown where there are great shops and next to the ... marina. A main reason why we chose this hotel was because of the location and the private island that they had to offer. Overall, the hotel was ok. I wouldn't give it 4 or 5 stars though. The hotel looks dated and the rooms are small. For an extra fee you can have a view of the marina or a view of the "city" which is the back of the hotel. Let me forewarn you that if you get a room facing the streets of the city you will be woken up by the sounds of alarms at 3am in the morning. Overall, I was a bit disappointed with the hotel and probably would not stay here again.

Great Location, Unprofessional Service
Kirsten Sep 30, 2009
[...] We were supposed 2 $100 credit to casino, free breakfast everyday, and $50 in cocktails. We received 1 free breakfast. ... $50 credit in casino and no credit for cocktails. We also had to wait one hour and forty five minute to get into a room and on some days room service never even came. On the one day breakfast we did receive food was forgotten and cold by the time we got it. The hotel is beautiful, the pool and beach were amazing but I just felt overall disappointed and the staff was very unprofessional. I wouldn't go back to this resort.
Traveler type: Family
The nightlife in Aruba happens only on Fridays and Saturdays. There are great clubs to go to in short walking distance. To do any fun outdoor event is really expensive however and the food is extremely expensive.

This hotel is in downtown Oranjestad and it is very noisy. We tried to sleep with our balcony doors open but there were too ... many honking horns, hollering and loud cars. With the doors closed, it's not that bad. We also were approached by many men trying to sell us drugs when walking down the street from the hotel. It's definitely a downtown setting with all of the lights and shops. The Palm Beach area is much prettier and a lot quieter. But this hotel does have a beautiful setting and beautiful amenities. It's more o the town that was a disappoinment.

One Happy Review
luv2travel Aug 17, 2009
There's just something about Aruba... What a great vacation! The resort is located in downtown Oranjestad which is good if ... you like to learn a bit about the culture of the indigenous population. This includes local restaurants. Overall, the people were very nice and the food was incredible. I highly recommend El Gaucho (steakhouse). As for the resort... the staff was accommodating and friendly. The room was spacious and clean. I would say it's somewhere between a standard room and a full suite. It's definitely nice to have a private bedroom when traveling with children. It had a kitchenette which was good for heating leftovers and storing cold drinks. Happy hour at the pool was from 4:30 - 6:00 at which time all drinks were two for the price of one which was quite reasonable. The best part of the resort, by far, was the private island. The kids loved the little boat ride to get to the island and the beach there was great. The swimming area is defined by natural barriers which provided a feeling of added safety for the children. Eating at the restaurant on the island was pricey, so you may want to schedule your island and meal times accordingly. A good tip for families: They have a children's lunch on the island for $6 (extremely reasonable there) which included soup, entree, drink, and ice cream. The thing is that it's not advertised, so you have to ask about it. Overall, I was very pleased that we decided to stay here.
Traveler type: Family
Unfortunately, a number of the restaurants worth dining at in Aruba don't have children's menus or very limited ones. I've found that most will allow you to bring Taco Bell or McDonald's with you for the kids.

Nice people, average place, bad location
Totti's jawn Aug 12, 2009
Everyone we dealt with was really nice. We thought it was a dead time to be in Aruba until we discovered the high rise ... hotels. If I went back would definitely want to be in high rise area. In booking with Orbitz I spoke with a rep and he didn't tell us about the locations. The Renaissance is in downtown Oranjestad which apparently used to be the hot spot but all the new money in Aruba appears to be invested into the high rise area. I tried to switch to a hotel there but because we were committed to an Orbitz package we could not change. With all of that said, if you are interested in a relaxing vacation away from the current tourist hotspots it is a nice, a little bit outdated place to be. Private beach is nice and the pool was nice with friendly staff. A couple floors of the hotel are dedicated to time shares. The children friendly side is in a much better location, if you have children or don't mind them, it is definitely the side to stay because it is on the beach. The adult side is across the street with a casino attached to the facility. The casino in the hotel and the one across the street are much older than the casino's in the high rise area.
Traveler type: Couples
We didn't opt for an all-inclusive because we are non-drinkers and wanted to dine in different parts of the island. It was a great decision because we ate at a few great places including the Flying Fishbone and Smokey Joe's which is a great bbq place.

AMAZING. IM ALMOST LOST FOR WORDS TO DESCRIBE OUR EXPERIENCE AT THE RENAISSANCE MARINA HOTEL. FROM THE MOMENT WE ARRIVED IT ... WAS THE PERFECT VACATION. GREAT STAFF. GREAT ATMOSPERE. THE ROOMS WERE PERFECT. MODERN DECOR AND GOOD SIZE. OCEAN VIEW ROOMS HAD AMAZING VIEW OF POOL AND OCEAN. THE BOAT THAT TRAVELS TO THE ISLAND IS A BEAUTIFUL AND CONVENIENT RIDE. ALL INCLUSIVE IS THE WAY TO GO. MY FIANCE AND I ATE AND DRANK ALL WE LIKED. WE DEFINITELY INDULGED OURSELVES. THE LG STEAK HOUSE IS A CLASSY PLACE WITH GREAT FOOD. WENT ON THE TATOO PARTY CRUISE WHICH WAS GREAT. LIKE A DANCE CLUB ON THE OCEAN. THE FOOD WAS BASIC. BBQ RIBS AND PASTA SALAD. SO IF YOUR USED TO ALL INCLUSIVE DINING. EAT BEFORE YOU GO. WENT ON A TIME SHARE PRESENTATION WHICH ALLOWED US TO GO FOR FREE TO THE TATOO CRUISE ($100 VALUE) WORTH EVERY MINUTE. OVERALL, THE RENAISSANCE HAS EVERY BASE COVERED. GREAT ROOMS, GREAT FOOD, GREAT LOCATION. CUTE LITTLE SHOPS ACROSS THE STREET. IF YOU WANT TO TRAVEL ANYWHERE TAKE THE BUS. ITS SO CHEAP. TAXIS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE. $20 FROM THE AIRPORT TO RENAISSANCE WHICH IS A 5 MINUTE RIDE. I WOULD RECCOMENT IT TO ALL COUPLES. NO KIDS!!! WHICH WAS GREAT!!! I LOVED EVERY SECOND. CAN NOT WAIT TO GO BACK!!!

The Waterfront Crab- this is a joke-no crabs there only partial crab legs. There were two very good restaurants there- The Old Fisherman- aruban fare just a few blocks from this hotel and Mr Jazz on Palm Beach end very good steaks.
