Decent Stay in a Las Vegas Icon
Wallet on a Diet Feb 6, 2010
Staying at the Luxor Pyramid was pretty cool, the room was spacious, the beds were very comfortable, and the special request ... we made to housekeeping was (surprisingly) consistently followed for the duration of our stay. Like any hotel on the strip, the dining options were pretty pricey, but the worst part of staying at the Luxor was the giant APPALLING advertisements for resident shows: Carrot Top, Chris Angel, and the requisite strip show, Fantasy. We didn't attend, so forgive me if you saw and loved them. But, honestly, if pictures were the worst part our stay, it must have been pretty decent. Like any stay in Vegas, you gotta roll with the punches.

Check the in room coupon book as soon as you get in - we could have save $75 dollars if we had. Also try to hit the casino with only your necessities- we lost two shopping bags and a phone (the phone was recovered by security)while traipsing about the various strip casinos in a drunken, penny slot winning frenzy.

Had a sweet time at the Luxor. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the rooms were nice. Didn't mind walking to ... most places from the end of the strip, as the Luxor is close to most places. Would have liked some safes in the room, though. I would stay here again for sure!

A little old and tired
Victor Vicious Feb 4, 2010
The location of the Luxor is great, right next to the more expensive Mandalay Bay and all of its great amenities. For the ... price, our tower room was all right, but the beds are just so-so (sheets had weird black spots and were threadbare). Cleaning staff was really good; after leaving a tip I got WAY nicer towels, larger sized toiletries, and more bottled water. Prior to that the towels were also threadbare. I have to confess that we went over to the Mandalay for nicer restaurants and bars; except for breakfast we didn't spend a lot of time at the Luxor. And I'm glad there were no kids with us because of the pole dancing bar entertainment right at the edge of the Casino! All in all, this is the perfect place for the budget-conscious traveler who doesn't care about having the latest and greatest room amenities.

We loved the hotel this is why we chose to stay there. When we arrive the staff wasn't nice at all; the woman at reception ... was very rude, she didn't even smile. We arrive on a rainy day and our room was leeking. They ask as to come back to the reception desk to take a key to another room that was also leeking. After moving with our suitcases twice the hotel finely gave as different room. The stay in the hotel was nice we stay there for 8 nights, we had problem in the area where we lived that caused us to stay in Vegas for 2 more nights; we tried to ask for a better deal on the 2 nights that we didn't plan to stay. Their answer was "we can't do anything about it". We ended up moving our stuff to different hotel. We expected that after all the experience at least they could do is give us a better deal, but nobody cared. i love the hotel but this vacation we felt that the crew wasn't so pleasant to serve us.

Don't Stay at the Luxor!
Eunice E. Baker Feb 2, 2010
It seems that in vegas all the casinos are trying to get you lost so you wont leave their premises. Confusing signs are ... common. The Luxor is about the furthest from the strip, so you are left to navigate several other hotels and casinos before you can get to the strip. It's a loong walk! MGM Grand seems to be the hub. The monorail's last stop south is MGM, and although it's located in the FAR back of their facility, it is the fastest and easiest way to get north. I would suggest to anyone going to vegas to stay at MGM, if only for it's location. The Luxor is fancy and impressive, but personally I like to brew coffe in the morning and crack a window...not there. A 6 cup pot of coffee is $31 from room service..once they add the service charge..and god forbid you need cream and sugar! It's a loong walk to starbucks, which makes for some pretty grumpy mornings. Also, be careful on the slots there.. we found machines next to each other that were set up differently and wouldn't give you the 'spin' you earned! Overall, I'd say something has changed dramatically about vegas over the years..the odds seem to be heavily tilted in the casino's favor. I don't know if they took some cards out of the blackjack decks, or what, but NOBODY was winning anything..anywhere! A few people I spoke with said the same thing, and recalled a time when vegas was exciting because 'someone' was winning 'something' 'somewhere'..not anymore. All I'm sayin' is have your fun, but be careful cuz your likely to lose it ALL!

Good hotel, pyramid rooms need makeover
AvH Feb 1, 2010
Having stayed at THEhotel, the Mandalay Bay, the Hilton and the Flamingo before, the Luxor rates as average. Especially the ... rooms are among the bottom 2 on this list of hotels. I stayed in the Spa Suite in the Pyramid, and even though the rooms were clean and spacious, you could tell that they need a bit of renovation work. Some wear and tear is visible and the bathroom also could use some improvements (such as a newer shower head). Jacuzzi worked fine. There were some strange grinding or drilling type noises, that sounded like they were coming from other rooms, so the night was not necessarily quiet/morning. The Casino and other amenities are worth a visit. Easy and speedy check-in and check-out process, as well as friendly dealers and fun bars and restaurants. I would have also liked to have seen the two exhibits that were there (Titanic & Bodies), but with a price of over $25 entry per exhibit, per person, it was a bit of a turn off. The $5 discount coupons did not really help there. More people would go see it, with a price of $15 or less...

Luxor Letdown
college student in Vegas Feb 1, 2010
The hotel was decent, but compared to the other big casino/hotels on the strip, it was disappointing. Apparently, Luxor ... updated its look a few years ago and got rid of a lot of the Egyptian-themed stuff. It seems like they were trying to go for a modern, lounge atmosphere with the restaurants, bars, and lounges they had on the casino floor, but instead it is just a very generic, uninteresting casino. It is much less impressive to walk through than other casinos on the strip, and a lot smaller. The nightclub there looks really nice when you walk in, but the DJ who was there when I went was not very good and most of the people were older than at a typical nightclub. The food at the cafe and at the buffet was pretty good. It is expensive, but pretty much the same as anywhere else on the strip- $30 for the buffet for the whole day and $12-15 for most meals in the cafe. We went to other hotels for nice dinners so I don't know how their nicer restaurants are. We reserved the cheapest room, but were upgraded to the second-cheapest room and they were decent, but the mattresses were really hard. I went with two other people and we were all new to gambling and the casino at Luxor was a pretty good place to learn and try it because it was never really busy and serious gamblers wouldn't come to Luxor. They did have a free hour class on table games that we went to and it helped. Since Luxor is at the end of the strip, it is a long walk to get to most things, but you could easily get to Excalibur, New York New York, and MGM without having to walk on the street because of inside walkways or bridges over the street. If I ever go back to Vegas, I would definitely try to stay somewhere more in the middle of the strip and with more of an interesting theme since you spend a lot of time in the hotel.
