I have no idea why anyone would give this hotel a negative rating. The ONLY thing that could have been better was the ... location...it's a little far from the mall and nightlife, but just a short bus/cab ride away. The staff was very nice and I was impressed by the amount of english they spoke. The food was good, and the buffet was as good as a buffet can be. The grounds were beautiful and very well kept. [...] the best bartenders there. If you book tours, go to [...] Caribe Maya in the hut by the snack sands. [...] a wonderful waiter at the steakhouse there (Rodizzio). The foam party is insane!!! A must. The pool was amazing, and so was the beach. We had one of the most beautiful resorts by far.

The hotel was very clean and the grounds were emaculate. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There were many ... restaurants, some of the smaller places were understaffed and very slow. The food did not warrant the two hour wait. The beach has been washed away exposing large rocks. The only on site entertainment was a very small night club that opened three times during the week. It had very little seating, very dark, with unlit steps. It was an accident waiting to happen. You had to take a taxi or a bus for any other activities. Some of the younger guests seemed very happy. Guests over forty seemed to be less satisfied.

Hotel grounds were beautiful, decent location on the strip, not much ... beach left(not due to hotel staff:), food was not good, and the staff were rude. They are not there to please!!! Waited over an hour past check in time and still tried to give us a room with a king size bed when we specifically asked at the desk for 2 doubles!

Our room were FILTHY!!! The pillows and sheets smelled like filth. The phone smelled like someone who was very dirty. Our ... room kept getting flooded with water. We had to us towels all lined by by the door so it would not run all over floor. First time it happened, called room service they told me they were short staffed and nothing they can do about it, That I could come get towels. The Maid kept missing the room for towels. I had to call for towels. The food there was OK. I got sick twice on the eggs. It just was run down and everything was not that clean. "Oh yes" and the air conditioner had mold all around it and the room was always wet and damp. Our clothes, sheets,EVERYTHING was wet feeling!! WE WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN!!!! NEVER!!

Had a wonderful time at the Grand Oasis. The pools are HUGE and the view is absolutely gorgeous. The food was exceptional and ... you don't need to make reservations (except for 1 Mexican restaurant that serves dinner only). The people are friendly and service was excellent - we tipped all the servers! Definitely would consider staying at the Grand Oasis again.

Cancun Vacation
JB Oct 26, 2009
From start to finish... Check In: Was easy, and everything was simple to understand. I did make sure our room was a king ... before leaving the counter. There was another resort sales person standing behind us during the process...they are there for one reason. They want to talk you into attending there resort session and taking there free gift. Do it if you want, I simply said thank, No and moved on. Room: We had an ocean front room #3218. It was a simple room with a balcony on the beach. The room is okay. The bathrooms need to be updated. We were there in October and if it had been hotter outside the air conditioner would not be able to keep the room as cool as I like. The common areas of the buildings are very cool! Each building has a table manned by hotel staff to assist you. Get in good with them, you will be thankful. Grounds: The pool, deck, grass, etc are amazing. They do a great job of keeping the property looking good. Each night the property is cleaned up and straightened. Beach: Most of the beach has large rocks keeping you from entering the water. There is one area that is safe to wade out into the surf, otherwise you will get cut up on the rocks and possibly injured. The sand is nice and enough lounge chairs for everyone. For sitting and getting your feet wet the beach is fine. The sand has eroded away from storms, taking away from some of the beauty. Everyone gets a towel card. You exchange it for a towel and get it back after you return the towel. Not bad unless you lose it ($15.00 charge). Eating: The restaurants are great. We didn't have a bad meal anywhere. There are more restaurants than we could eat at. I would suggest you make reservations to the Grand Lobby restaurant, the food was the best. You will need to make it one day in advance, so build good relationships with the hotel staff they can get you in. The food has a wonderful presentation, and for most of the restaurants you can eat without dressing up. The Main Lobby restaurant requires formal wear. Entertainment: We watched three shows, and everyone of them left me wishing they were shorter. This is no Las Vegas or Broadway. It was something to do and it was free. All the shows started at 9:30pm. Fitness Center: It might as well not even been on the property. Of the four or five pieces of equipment half of them were broke and the free weights consisted of an incomplete dumb bell set. Staff: I found them to be very nice and more than happy to help you. You will need to go out of your way to ask and to build good relationships with them. Take $10 a day in $1 dollar bills for tips. I know it is included, but trust me, they can use the money and you will gain some friends who will make your stay a notch above everyone else.

Will not go back to Grand Oasis
Frequent Traveller Oct 17, 2009
We stayed at this resort for the third time, and we will not go back. The resort is in a good location on the Cancun beach, ... and the pool and beach are lovely. However, the hotel rooms were not clean--there was mold/mildew growing in the shower, room service would pick up towels and not leave clean ones. The rooms do not have air conditioning, but have swamp coolers, so everything stays damp all the time. Hotel staff were unfriendly--we waited in line for food, and when we were the next people to be served, it was "time to close." They picked up all the food and would not give us any, even though we had been waiting in line. Outdoor lighting not all working. No fans in elevators (trust me, this was an issue)! This was our 3rd stay here, and we were shocked at how much the hotel has gone downhill in the last year. We enjoyed Cancun, the beach, the Mayan ruins, the shopping. Think twice before staying at this resort.
Traveler type: Couples
The tours in the area are fun. There are Mayan ruins, water parks, eco-parks,snorkeling, etc. Everywhere there are people to sell you a tour package. WalMart has worked out deals with the vendors, and they can offer you the best price--often 50% less than other places.

Great Resort....Horrible Customer Servic
Frequent Cancun Visitor Oct 11, 2009
The Hotel is really nice! It had a very spacious lobby with great interior garden, great grounds with a pool that stretched ... between the different room towers. The staff however, was horrible. Upon check-in, I was informed my room wouldn't be ready for an hour. Ok, I thought, but no one informed me I could go eat in the meantime or relax...I only knew to by reading other reviews here on [...]. Came back and they said room wouldn't be ready again for 2 hours. Came back 2 hours later .... gave me keys, but said not to go up for 15 minutes because it was just getting cleaned. Bathroom tub was horrible with rust stains throughout, brown water came out of faucet and shower, and by towel hut by the pool, you have to listen to someone try and sell you tour packages. The easiest part, ironically, was checking out. I'd go back, but only because the All Inclusive made it an attractive offer. Oh, and the beach is pretty bad too....their property barely has room to offer maybe 10 beach chairs...beware. A plus though is that there is literally a bar every 10 feet!
Traveler type: Couples
The Hotel offers a lot of upscale dining locations...and it's included in your All Inclusive rate!
