Best Bang for the Buck

The hotel experience was great, location was great and breakfast was exactly what you would expect with hard boiled eggs, ... toast, cereal, and a waffle maker. WIFI worked perfectly throughout hotel, including our room. The hotel is easily walkable to fisherman's wharf and a bus stop right outside hotel will take you anywhere you want. Walkable (2 blocks up a huge hill) to the Hyde/Powell Cable Car on Lomboard St. Got kinda loud a couple nights was woken up by VERY loud teenage neighbors that I could hear screaming in hallway and sounds of being bodyslammed in the walls. Besides that, the stay was perfect and front desk was extremely friendly and helpful.

about a 15 minute walk...walk north up Van Ness on block to Chestnut and make a left, walk a few blocks down and near intersection of Fillmore and Chestnut (bus 30 also takes you right there) to the restaurant Pacific Catch. Happy hour is 3-6 and they have the most amazing shrimp ceviche and hawaii poke at inexpensive prices! We wound up going here twice it was soooo good.

Ok location - about 5 blocks to the wharf and cable cars. The price was comparable to other hotels, but not for a room that ... had a wall view. Ours was one a floor that offered no view other than the building next door. We had asked for a non-smoking room, but were given a smoking room. Since hotel was full, no other arrangements could be made/offered. We should have kept driving the PCH and skipped SF. Oh well...

Skip the downtown city bus tour - double decker. Expensive and crowded.

Cheaper Alternative to Pricier SF Hotels
Satchel Paige Jul 5, 2009
We stayed at this hotel to be close to Fisherman's Wharf and it was much cheaper than the other options. It was about a 10 ... minute walk from to Giradelli Square (edge of Fisherman's Wharf. We had to pay for parking, but it was cheaper and safer than any of the commercial lots in the area. Only complaint is that the street noise was more than I expected. The staff was very friendly and helpful to us.

Clam Chowder in a sour dough bread bowl is a great lunch and costs less than $6. You can get it from the street vending side of any ofm the major Fisherman's Wharf Restaurants.

Comfort Inn by the Bay San Francisco
MN Mom Jun 23, 2009
The hotel was in a perfect location for us. Rooms were clean, but elevators were unbelievably slow. We had to wait 15 ... minutes at times. Also, parking was almost $30.00 a night and the underground parking was less than desirable...it had small areas/pockets/rooms of parking that went on and on and on. As 4 women traveling alone, we didn't feel safe walking back into the far areas by ourselves. The lobby was always busy and noisy. Breakfast was fine, but again, so incredibly busy and noisy all the time. The air conditioning didn't cool the room very well...we stayed there 3 nights, in 2 different rooms and the air just never seemed to kick in the way it should.

I was in San Francisco for a CE class. The staff was GREAT with directions and they all had wonderful suggestions for dinner ... and for what I could do in my spare time. The staff always had a smile and greeted me by name. The only thing that would have made my stay better would have been to have a small fridge and microwave.

A comfortable stay in a great location
Spring-Break Mom Apr 22, 2009
The hotel was exactly what we expected - a comfortable stay in a decent location for a great price. With no car, we had an ... easy walk to the cable cars at Fisherman's Wharf, or a hop onto the street cars right near the hotel to go anywhere we wanted in the city. As a mom traveling with a teenage daughter, walking the area at night was not a concern - the neighborhood was generally quiet and very nice people.
Traveler type: Family
Hint: No car? Take the time to buy a 3-day pass (or whatever time-frame you need)- it covers all public transportation in the entire city - Cable Cars, Rail Cars, Street Cars and buses - and will save you $$! (Not for BART)

Just the Basics
Elizabeth Sep 23, 2007
I guess it's the nature of a Comfort Inn to provide just the basic necessities for the frequent traveler. I'd never stayed ... in one before, so was somewhat surprised that they didn't have any room service or even a sundries store to buy water, aspirin or shampoo. I really can't complain about a service they don't have if it's the basis of who they are - supposedly, not offering those amenities transfers to some kind of cost savings to the consumer. But I found this hotel to be a bit pricey all things considered. I was looking for a nice, clean hotel in a nice area near the Presidio. That's basically what it is - but good luck getting a cab to take you to the Presidio (another story - cabbies simply don't like going there FYI). Anyway, the room was clean and the hotel staff was friendly and assisted me with maps and direction for the public trans. The bathroom was nothing to write home about. I guess I've been to Vegas too many times & have been quite spoiled. It's walking distance to Ghirardelli Square & Fisherman's Wharf, all downhill - take bus #49 to come back up and exit at Chestnut St. (1 block before hotel).

Relatively short walk downhill to the Aquarium. I'd recommend taking the bus back, though if you're not a fit person.

William May 21, 2007
This Comfort Inn is very well located to a lot of the area's desinations. It has limited space for parking. The breakfast ... they have is good. The waffles are great. This is a good location for a walk to the wharf. Short drive to the Golden Gate bridge. Very limited places to eat near the hotel. I would, however, recommend this hotel for the location.

A room with a view
Scott May 4, 2007
I was very pleased with this hotel from the first time we pulled up. I am a handicapped person. And the location of the ... handicapped parking to the elevator was wonderful. I have had to do alot of traveling to San Francisco lately. And I would return to this hotel again and again. There are plenty of fine restaurants close by. And it feels close to just about all the locations of San Francisco I ever need to travel to. The staff was nice and helpful. And the hotel clean nice and queit. What more can you ask for. Oh yeah...I even had a view of the Bay bridge and the Bay. To bad I wasn't there for romance.
