Although not in the best neighborhood its safe and very close to Market St where you can use public transportation to take ... you anywhere in town, unbeatable prices and a great hotel. It shares amenities with its sister hotel across the street which was great and the Custom burger restaurant is a must try!

Probably the best experience booking online I've had so far. I made the reservation last minute (the day of arrival). The ... room was spotless, Victorian design and feel, recently remodeled. There was even a fireplace in the room (a real log to burn included). Romantic and lovely. A vintage typewriter on the desk totally set off the mood of the room. Parking was on the premises which was a big plus...

Good Place to Saty in SF

This is a good hotel - reasonable price, particularly for parking ($20 per day which is cheap for San Francisco). No ... complaints, the hotel was just fine. Free computer in the lobby. Got a good Chinese restaurant recommendation from the staff

Great location, good house keeping
eYn Sep 8, 2009
I was a bit skeptical when I booked rooms here, because for one I have never been to SFO and didn't have much info. But boy ... was I lucky. The rooms were neat and clean. Spacious and well done. The room service was great too. I would def recommend/stay here again. Also the location is amazing, you have plenty of buses from market street and the piers are about 10$-15$ cab. All the big places are very near.

"Fun, Fun, Funny"
Mom The Brave Traveler Sep 1, 2009
I arrived after flying across the country alone for the first time. Unsure how to even check in. The receptionist immediatly ... put me at ease and did not make me feel uncomfortable with my heavy southern accent and inexperience. My daughter lives in a high rise condo building about a block from the hotel so it was very easy to get there and the little pull over area right at my door made it easy for her to pick me up. I liked the fact that, yes it is a big town and I was alone, the fear factor was not there. The room was the coolest!! I would never in a million years put those colors or textures together in a room but they totally rocked!!!Loved the typwritter on the desk that had the story of the guy the room was named after. The sherry in the lobby was a nice touch.

Take a cab or use the public transport. The parking is difficult and the garages are expensive. I would never rent a car if I was not leaving the city.

Comfortable, nice and best value
Giovani the Techie Aug 4, 2009
Stayed for Five Nights. Pros: -comfortable bed! -Decoration -Location (near points of interest) -Free Gym Cons: -cheap ... toilet paper -Free Wi-Fi, my phone tethering internet was faster... The hotel isn't located in the prettiest location of SF, there's a lot of bums and drug junkies but it doesn't matter if you are with someone, wouldn't recommend it for a single person. You have market street one block away, which is convenient because there's a mall and the MUNI cable car very close. TIPS: for breakfast you have two options near, The Good Food (right on the corner) or Subway (across the street), at the good place you can get oatmeal or a Calzone, I tried the calzone but it was just OK, I preferred Subway's breakfast. for Lunch or Dinner you have to go to Miss Saigon, it' like one block away, the place doesn't look that good from the outside (most places look bad in SF city), but the food is really good and cheap!!! nicest place in the area in my opinion. Custom Burger was pricey!!! On a side note I didn't try the room coffee because is instant, sheets were changed by request, parking was $20 per night

Reasonable, Comfortable with character
LeftCoastCouple Jul 5, 2009
This is a very reasonable, centrally located hotel-- somewhat of an unassuming oasis in a rough part of SF, so you can't be ... skiddish about walking down sidewalks along with a raucous of street people. The hotel room was decorated with a cool, interesting mix of retro furniture and accents that didn't feel like a standard hotel room, not even a perfectly done (but sterile) boutique hotel-- it was cozy. The rooms are 'themed' after famous people in history: We were in the Cheech Marin room-- so appropriate for a stay in SF (wink)! The room was very clean and well equipped, with the modern essentials like an ipod dock, flat screen TV, wifi (FREE!), bathroom fixtures. Our room had high ceilings and huge Victorian windows. O yea, and parking was extremely reasonable, considering the costs I've paid at other SF hotels. The office/lobby staffers give the level of service and hospitality that you'd find at a 3 star hotel desk-- very kind, attentive and helpful; there's also a guest computer (mac) in the office. The security appears on point. There's no extra amenities in the building-- you have to cross the street to the sister hotel for access to pool, fitness room, resto and bar/lounge. We needed a clean, comfy, convenient place to wind down and sleep, and this place was perfect.

a nice place for the money. staff is friendly, but they did not fix our bath or offer us another room. parking is a total ... rip-off since i am paying to stay in the hotel.ever heard of free parking for hotel guests?! the hotel is very close to the court house/good the hotel is surrounded by homeless shelters/bad we have stayed accross the street at the sister hotel, this one is better.

Hotel Staff in Need of Training
College Student Apr 9, 2009
I had to say that I didn't have the most pleasant stay there. The only reason this place is getting 2 stars is because the ... room was phenominal. When I first arrived, the front desk clerk was helping someone and when she was done she asked me, "Do you need anything?" and I stated that I was checking in. She told me and I quote, "I am sorry, I thought you were part of our kitchen staff." I obviously did not feel very welcomed after that. The Room it self was great. I had a king sized bed, with a couch and a desk. Very clean, plasma TV, Ipod alarm clock, and rooms seemed to be pretty sound proof, since I didn't hear anything from the other rooms. However, the area isn't the greatest. There was a police sting across the street at about 3am in the morning, which woke me up from a sound sleep. I was also told by locals that there are homeless shelters about 2 blocks away, which explained the amount of homeless people there. Don't walk around by your self, late at night (take a taxi).
