Not as happy as I had planned.
Big Willy Oct 19, 2009
I was in town to see friends and do some sightseeing. I was disappointed to find the lounge on my loced floor was closed for ... construction and in fact, the construction was affecting many areas of the hotel. The noise was distarcting and when I checked in, I found the bathroom had not been cleaned as well as I would have expected. Toothpaste was splattered all over the shelves and was not cleaned the entire weekend, even after I reported it. I found a empty gift box under an ottoman and that area had not been dusted or wiped down. Dust covered the dresser and TV. The room was not dirty just sloppy. I had expected to use the lounge to do work and have a quiet place in the early morning and evening but only learned of it being closed upon arrival.

Hilton Washington; near DuPont Circle
Rod Oct 15, 2009
Hotel is undergoing renovation, which is a good thing. The floor on which we stayed was almost completed and you could see ... the difference (new carpet, fresh-smelling atmosphere). Roomy, comfortable. Somewhat noisy, but after 11 p.m., everything seemed to quiet down every evening. Hotel service and staff were terrific. Attentive, sharp, and went out of their way to make one's stay enjoyable.

Dissapointing
disgruntled traveler Oct 12, 2009
The Hilton is undergoing renovations. Our room was newly renovated and had nice furnishings and appointments. I noticed on ... checking into the room that there were papers left behind from the previous guest. There was also hotel stationary with writing all over it. Additionally, there was some kind of dirt dried on the the picture by the bed and the glass shelves in the bathroom were dusty and dirty. We left the hotel around 8am each day for business meetings and surprised that our rooms had not been cleaned until late afternoon. We even stopped at the deak and made requests to the front desk staff to have the room cleaned by a certain time only to return and find unmadebeds, dirty towels etc. After the 3rd day I asked for the manager, explained our experience and the troubles we had had. He aplogized and sent up a cheese tray, a nice gesture, but in light of the experince we had I would not stay there again. The hotel is obviously understaffed and poorly managed.

Hilton Washington
Autumngal Oct 11, 2009
We stayed 3 nights at the Washington Hilton in Dupont Circle. There were plenty of dining options within walking distance and ... we were moments away from the Dupont Circle Metro stop. Because there was a lot going on in town, and in DC one can expect there always is, the hotel was occasionally boisterous at night on the weekend evenings. However, the rooms were spotless, the staff knowledgeable and friendly and the renovations going on were not intrusive, and we would certainly stay there again. We got an amazing rate $119/night (though the renovations may have had something to do with it) and had a great time in DC.

This hotel was a great deal with stayed 4 nights and paid for 3. I thought I was getting breakfast with the booking which ... turned out to be a mistake on my part but the hotel was very accommodating in giving me a couple of upgrades to compensate which I was very pleased with. The hotel is undergoing rennovations but we were not inconvenienced by any workers or noise. The only problem was the pool was closed, which I did know in advance, and this was one trip where we would have been able to spend some time in the pool. The hotel was in a nice/safe area and although long walks we were able to get to a lot of attractions by walking. This was my fourth trip booked through Orbitz and I have been extremely pleased with all of my hotel choices. I would like to see more that include breakfast as that was a huge savings to us with the hotel we booked in Chicago.

The slow and sideways
Sweets Aug 30, 2009
Finding the hotel was crazy because they were doing construction, and unless you stayed across the street no one was willing ... to really help with out you yelling, "I'm not from around here, can you help me." So finally I find the hotel and I also find out that there is no free parking. It was very expensive for parking, very. So I park in the garage because I could not find parking anywhere else and entered the hotel. I ended up waiting 15 minutes and it was only 1 person in front of me. I mean the man was so slow and he was young and i asked him how long he been here and he says years.I get up there and i go to my room. OMG it was so far from the elevator, it was smelly, very old and dengy. I get to my room, it's like they forgot to dust the light bulbs. looked like someone took there break in there, they forgot the towels, to clean the tub and the hot water didn't work. I didn't have to complain I explained and went to get another room. I was glad another person helped me cause i was gone give him some choice words. I was told that the room was old and being worked on and he was not suppose to give anyone those rooms. When i gott to the other room i was so happy. I felt very comfortable. I also recieved a free drink from the bar. The food was funny tasting and service was horble. I seated myself but it was like they didn't see me. I had to keep getting up to get help. I knew I couldn't get a refund so I took one for the team but not again. To sum it all up there was no ice machine on my floor and the hallway is like .5 miles from the elevator. I was angry when i walked from one end to the other with no progress. I hope you read this have a good one.

We were able to get a remodeled room which was very nice. Due to the remodeling, ice and other expected extras were hard to ... come by. Location was great. Breakfast is $20 per person, there are no mini fridges in rooms and wifi is extra and expensive. If you only need to check a few emails per day, plan on taking your laptop to nearby coffee shops or book stores. Metro is about 4 blocks away and the neighborhood is great.

Washington Hilton good but not great
New Grandma Aug 17, 2009
The hotel is being renovated so the pool and health club were closed and my floor was half shut down. Each room will have ... its own ac system for personal control. My first room was tiny and the ac so noisy and powerful my mattress was vibrating, but they changed my room with no problem. There was no frig in either room and I would have liked to store insulin and keep soda bottles I bought in the gift shop to keep them cool. The guest services booklet was confusing. Soda and ice were supposedly located on each floor "next to room 103." Yet every room has four digits , not three, and how can each floor of many have a 103? Had I stayed longer and not been so tired I would have asked concierge where in the world these amenities were. TV worked sluggishly and confusedly and did not always came on but repair man came immediately when I mentioned problem at checkout. Buffet breakfast was very good although line to get omelettes blocked access to the various hot trays of assorted dishes. Location is wonderful, right on Conn. Ave. I stayed there because it was a short walk to my son's condo and proximity was the most important factor to me. I wanted to leave the bathroom door slightly ajar with the light open, as a night light. But the door is mostly glass and the light was so bright it was impossible to do so.

I arrived at check-in to discover that I had incorrectly scheduled my travel dates. [...] at the front desk was incredibly ... gracious, got me a new reservation and spent time on phone with Orbitz so I didn't have to pay for my incorrect reservation. A++++ service. The location is pretty decent, not close to monuments for touristy stuff but good nightlife and nice restaurants. The hotel was undergoing renovations so the fitness center and pool were closed but I knew that when I booked the stay. As a result, I paid $110 per night- a steal when compared to the other hotels in the area. Would recommend.

Hilton, Washington D.C.
Wildwood Aug 10, 2009
My son and I went to Washington to see the Nationals play, and to tour historical and cultural sights. The Hilton was ... undergoing a renovation but this was not an inconvenience to us in any way. From the hotel, it is a short walk to the metro, our main means of conveyance when in D.C., and this is one of the reasons I chose this hotel. Unfortunately, when I booked this hotel on the Orbitz site, the site promised that, if I booked now, I would receive free parking at the hotel. I did book now but, when I received my confirmation, there was nothing on it about free parking. I emailed the Orbitz help site asking for some written confirmation about the parking because this was very important to me. Nevertheless, the return email stated that I could not receive that confirmation from the help site. In the end, I had to pay for parking and this was a major disappointment to me (part of the reason I chose booking on Orbitz was because of the free parking). Other than the unfulfilled parking promise, the hotel was clean, comfortable and as promised. The staff were courteous and helpful.
Traveler type: Family
The hotel is in a nice location for a short walk to the metro. Between riding the metro and walking, the sights of D.C. are at your beck and call. However, if you want to tour the White House, contact your congressman before you go to D.C. (seriously).
