Waikiki Joy Hotel Good Value, but ......

Honeymoon at penthouse floor
Oahu Honeymooner Oct 21, 2009
Walking distance to the beach, food, and shopping. Street was not congested with cars and pedestrians - easy for driving or ... pick up by tour buses. Staff offered courtesy calls to make reservations for local activities. Needed to wash coffee mugs in room immediately - ants arrive quickly. Additional valet parking fee and we found our car on the street for 2 nights. Internet and gym were additional fees.

So old and sooooooo dirty! the light switches were nasty dirty! The place needs to be demolished! and $19 to park a day, not ... including tips since it has to be valet parking. The pool is the size of a postage stamp. And forget the breakfast unless you are happy with toast and coffee. The staff was friendly and that is the only good thing I will say about this hotel! HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!

Nice little hotel at a decent price. The location is excellent! A few minutes away from the beach and right next to the ... strip. Very friendly and helpful staff. The room isn't the most updated and could use a renovation, but it was nice and clean so complaints there. The bathroom was spacious and loved the jettub! Would be nice if the hotel had WIFI and a cheaper valet service. But all in all was very satisfied!

Hawaii is Awesome Aug 9, 2009
The room was small, but cozy. The bathroom was very spacious. The location was unbeatable. It was so close to the beach and ... all the shops. Everything we needed was a 5 minute walk or closer. We loved that! Unfortunately, the beds are very springy. Also, a few times our we'd come back to the room and find that the new sheets that were put on the bed were not clean, they had suspicious looking stains on them and we'd have to call the maid to come and redo the bed.

Great walking distance to most stores and accessible to all trolleys and buses. The continental breakfast was only toast, ... muffins, juice and coffee. Could have a little better variety. Newspaper on your door every day. You have to pay for car parking which is $17.00 per day. Over all not to bad. Would stay here again.

Great Location for the money
The Barry's Jul 28, 2009
The hotel was 2 blocks from the beach, clean good size room with balcony. The bathroom was a good size with a jacquzzi bath ... tub, the shower pressure could have been stronger, but nothing to really complain about. The staff was friendly and helpful very easy check in and check out. Free continental breakfast was offered every morning from 7 to 9. Muffins, fruit, bread, orange juice, pineapple juice water and coffee. Pretty good for free! The pool was very small but that was not an issue for us because we had plans everyday. They have a massage chair in the lobby which helped after our Diamond Head hike!!! Pleasant stay for the money.

Luxury 4 Less Jul 6, 2009
This hotel is outdated. It is old and not very appealing to the eyes. Everything in the room feels old (not dirty just ... old). The rooms are very small compared with other hotel rooms that I have stayed in. The pool is also very small (maybe about 5 people can fit in it comfortably). There is only 1 restaurant on the premise that served average quality food and drinks. The free continental breakfast consisted of mini muffins, toast and jam, watered down orange and pineapple juice, coffee, and orange and pineapple slices (breakfast is not even worth getting up early for). The location of the hotel is prime though, just a few short steps to the city bus stop which can take you just about anywhere on the island of Oahu. The staff is friendly and they will hold your luggages for the day if your flight leaves later that evening so that you can still go and have fun. You get what you pay for, this hotel is less than $100 a day if you book with Orbitz. I only found 2 good thing about this hotel the staff was fairly friendly and the location is fairly desirable, close to the bus stop, shopping malls and restaurants, but still about 3 blocks from the waikiki beach. One more quick advice (Do not book any tour with Dr. K tours!!!) He is a very unsafe driver and almost got into 2 accidents when he picked us up to go snorkeling on one of his tours). Save some money and take the shuttle to and from the airport. Roberts Hawaii Shuttle will pick you up from the airport and drop you off at your hotel room and pick you up from your hotel to drop you off at the airport for $15 round trip. Buy the round trip ticket for this shuttle and they will only charge you $15. Taxi can cost $35 each way!! ride the shuttle and save some money. It is easy and convenient (make sure you call and make reservation 1 day before your depature date from Waikiki back to the airport. Buy the (4 day) bus pass from the ABC convenient store located throughout Waikiki and take the bus everywhere!!! If you don't mind spending a little time waiting for the bus, it will save you lots of money on taxi rides. You can ride the bus anywhere for 4 entire days for $20 with this pass!! Hope this review helps alot of people. Thanks

If you want to buy inexpensive souvenirs visit the swapmeet at Aloha Stadium. The swapmeet takes place on Wed., Sat., and Sun. every week. They have almost all of the souvenirs that everyone else in Waikiki sells. You can bargain to bring the prices down. If you are visiting the Polynesian Cultural Center make sure you buy an entertainment book from entertainment book.com there is a buy one get one free admission coupon you can use. Admission to this place is $45 each. You will also save a bunch of money on dining with this book. Buy it!!! It cost $10 with $5 shipping and the coupons are good until November 2009.

Molokaideb Apr 22, 2009
I was on a personal trip just to treat myself, relax, and do some shopping. Staying at the Waikiki Joy was perfect - it was ... quiet, and the pleasant, friendly staff were very helpful and accomodating. I was even surprised to be able to check in not just my bag early, but was also given the room 4 hrs. prior to check in time! I thought that was very generous. The hotel has a private, quaint, and personal atmosphere, that makes you feel at home. The convenience of having your own jacuzzi bathtub in the room was wonderful! The hotel is situated close to shopping, restaurants, entertainment, and even bus transportation. I definitely plan to return here time and time again. The "Waikiki Joy" certainly lives up to it's name!
