Wonderful hotel but WHAT IS THAT SMELL??
BeenThere,DoneThat Traveler Dec 1, 2009
I arrived on Thanksgiving day, the area was basically deserted because of the holiday, however the helpful staff recommended ... a small cafe located across the street from the hotel. Fantastic deli sandwiches. The room was nice but had an aweful musty stench that seemed to be relentless. I didnt complain, thinking it would go away, the bed is SOOOO comfortable, clean white sheets, soft pillows, safe in the room, flat screen tv with lots of cable channels..the deep tub was soothing, spa lit mirror,, round the clock taxi service and best of all EXTREMELY FRIENDLY PLEASANT STAFF, i have stayed at hotels where the staff reminded me of correction officers, not at this hotel, they are the total opposite, opening doors regularly, greeting with a genuine smile and quick to solve problems. The bar also makes a mean peach mojito! Walking distance to the White house, Georgetown, and Ben's chili Bowl! Dupont Circle is in walking distance also and is fun on weekend nights..

You can do better
Washnewbie Nov 16, 2009
The hotel itself seems more like a serviced apartment that a hotel. Until the day we checked out we didn't even know there ... was a bar, and there is no cafe or regular restaurant. For the price I'm sure you can do better. Free extras that you get used to in the most basic B&B such as Wi-Fi are not available at the Westin, there is Wi-Fi but for $10 a day. No in-room fridge and the mini bar is more like a vending machine and contains basic items at absurd prices. Noisy air-con and smells of disinfectant were off-putting. If you are in Washington as a tourist, without a car, and likely to be visiting museums and monuments this location is not great. Georgetown is close by but has nothing that downtown does not have. Our short review would read; overpriced and in the wrong location for a tourist visit.

Great location and clean quarters
Mid 30s couple with DC ties Nov 10, 2009
The Westin Grand is in a perfect location situated between Georgetown and GW's campus. You can walk to Georgetown or the ... GW/downtown area without any issues. The rooms were clean (the Westin Heavenly bed is amazing) and you can't beat the price. It is not the faciest hotel in the world, but very solid. An attached parking garage made parking easy.

Great Experience at the Westin Grand
fiznat Aug 9, 2009
We were pleasantly surprised with our experience at the Westin Grand this weekend. The hotel is very clean, very new, and ... all in all very nice looking. We found everything to be painless with the check-in, and walking into our room was a delight. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the bathroom was especially nice- featuring a shower with separate tub, as well as a private toilet. There was a flat-screen TV in the room also, which was nice. What really impressed us about the hotel, though, was the service when things went wrong. Our toilet overflowed onto the bathroom floor the first time we flushed it. We called the front desk and maintenance was at our door within two minutes. He was very polite, and made an otherwise potentially negative experience pleasant. Even more, a few minutes later we got another call from the front desk, and were moved to another room- this time bigger and nicer, with a beautiful balcony- for our trouble. Very, very nice. The experience was topped-off when we got a phone call from housekeeping, who had found a few dollars we had dropped on the floor in our haste to leave the other room. I would have never expected such service and honesty. Thank you Westin Grand!! Our only problem with the hotel was that it was a bit far from the areas in DC we wanted to see. We walked to the Mall for sightseeing and it was a bit of a long walk. ...Although for that I can only blame myself because I saw the map before I made the reservation. Still, our experience at this hotel was good enough that we might deal with the walk again (which was nice, albeit a little long) just so we know we're staying at such a great place. Would definitely stay there again.
