Great Little Place!
PB Sep 14, 2009
The Hotel Tomo was great. We had a room on the 6th floor, so we got good sunlight, and a neat view of Japantown. We travel to ... SF a few times a year, and this has been or FAVORITE hotel in this price range. Central location was great, and the parking wasn't too pricey when we couldn't find a street spot. Very clean and the staff was super helpful. Location is VERY easy to get on/off the highway within 7-10 minutes if you are heading down the airport or further down the peninsula or over to Oakland/Berkeley. Convenient to Van Ness and California streets to get you anywhere in the city by car within 15 minutes or so.

Kind of neat and trendy, comfortable...
Irish mom Jul 3, 2009
I had reserved a balcony room (which cost more) and did not get it! Probably because they had lost my reservation! Good ... thing I had printed out my confirmation. When I talk to the front desk they could not credit anything back to me and they had no balcony rooms available so they gave us free parking for the two night we were there(a $52 value). On 2nd day, our toilet stopped working. Other than those things, everything else was very nice. Front desk had a surprise grab bag for my daughter, who is 7. That's a neat touch for anyone with kids. We were main street side and the noise wasn't too bad. Inside the hotel was quiet also. Japan town is fairly small, but we easily caught the #47 line to the Fisherman's Warf. Shopping isn't too far from there either. Just map out where you're walking to or you'll end up in a not so nice part of town!!

Map out the streets and bus line (trolley or street car) and you'll save a lot of time and a lot of unnecessary walking. Be prepared to pay and on the street car, you don't get change back!

Adequate hotel stay with kids
Single Mom living in Concord May 25, 2009
I decided to take the girls with me to spend a weekend in SF over the Memorial Day weekend. Visited the Academy of Sciences ... and enjoyed the Shabu Shabu dinner in the hotel. I chose this restaurant because I knew that it was recently remodeled with a Japanese comic theme and I thought the girls would enjoy it as well. Also, I knew that I'd find street parking readily in that neighborhood. Service was nothing to write home about; adequate but not too eager to please. Our visit was satisfactory but I'm not sure I'd stay here again. The beds were a bit uncomfortable for me.

The Best Western Hotel Tomo, San Francisco, California was not breath-taking or deserving of any top hotel write-ups. The ... quality of the room furnishings were simply from Ikea.

Gustavo Jun 22, 2008
The Best Western Hotel Tomo in San Francisco, California was an unbelievable find! The rooms were spacious and incredibly ... clean. The minimalist decor of the room was perfect as it provided ample space for the three of us. Also, it is very modern with Ipod docking stations and flat screen TVs. The staff friendly and very attentive. The hotel is located in the Japantown neighborhood of San Francisco, which is conveniently located to all major attractions. It was a great value for the money and we are definitely staying there again.

Burton Jun 9, 2008
The bathroom lacked sufficient counterspace/cabinetry for toiletries; otherwise the room was spacious and comfortable. The ... anime decor is refreshing. The price seemed high but that was probably due to the convention. The staff were friendly and helpful. This hotel was 100% booked and we were glad to get it. The neighborhood, Japantown, is pleasant if not exciting.

Fun Get Away
May Sep 7, 2007
Hotel is simple and clean. Bad part is going up and down the stairs to get into the hotel. Lobby is clean and friendly ... staff, even those whom speak minimal Enlgish. We were short on bath towels. When asked, it was sent up right away to our room. Room was perfect for two people. Could use more space for our luggage. Lighting was very dim in the room. If you are not a morning person, try to avoid the room next to the day care playground next door. You can hear kids playing right at 9am. Best thing aobut location, it was right across the street from Japantown Center. Easy access to the muni line. Did not try the hotel restaurant. Lots of restaurants to choose from across the street, nearby and at the center, if you enjoy Korean and Japanese food. Little grocery markets are also near by. Overall good experience.

good value for the price
Lisa Jun 22, 2007
We checked in on a Monday. We were given 1st floor room that looked out onto the courtyard of the hotel. As the hotel had ... recently been remodeled unfortunately not all the construction had been completed in the courtyard. We were dissappointed with all the construction noise early in the morning (before 8:00 a.m.) and we asked to be transfered to another room. The room we were transfered to was more spacious but had problems with the hot water in the shower and also a very noisy problem in the wall (sounded like a washing machine being overloaded) which the hotel's engineering department could not figure out. The first room also had a huge draft from the sliding glass window. Over all the decor in the room was cute and clean. Beds were very comfortable and housekeeping was very accomodating. Japantown was a very nice area, quiet, clean and many friendly shops. The mall was within walking distance and it had many restaurants ranging in price. Bus stop location at adjacent corner from hotel very useful as we used public transport all week. Hotel has very limited parking but luckily we found a spot. Only complaint about that being the hotel charges its customers to park their vehicle ($17.50 per night) which is ridiculous. We ended up paying nearly $80 just to partk our car at the hotel we were paying to stay at. Over all ok experience, recommend hotel to travelers seeking kitschy design and artsy walls who don't mind the bus rides to the more interesting parks of San Francisco. Be wary at checkout as hotel attempted to charge for phone calls we had never made.

Hotel Tomo is different
Susan May 25, 2007
The Best Western Miyako Inn is being renovated into the Hotel Tomo which I think is the name of a Japanese cartoon. When I ... stayed there, they were still working on it and it showed. Oh well, the price was right and I needed to be in the neighborhood. Whether I will ever go back depends on the price. If I can get a good price I will go only because of the location. Otherwise, I won't They should fire their new decorator. If they were trying to be a cartoon, they succeeded. The rooms have bare wood frames with the front of the cabinets painted like a child's room in color and design. There were corners sticking out that I kept hitting. The famous mural on my wall was in loud colors and design and was of two crying children one of which had her head cut off at the top by a vent. I was not impressed. There were two hard plastic chairs in the room, and a giant bean bag which was too big to put anywhere if I was crazy enough to sit on it. What were they thinking?
