Hyped as a "five sun burst" hotel, I had expected something clean and reasonably comfortable. I was wrong. I have not seen ... a room that small since I sayed at a Japanese business hotel. That room was so small the bugs were in single file. Front desk called to see if I was happy with the room. When I told them I was not and the HVAC was not correctly functioning, they said "unfortunately" there was nothing they could do. I asked for a manager, a MOD, anyone who could do something. I was told "unfortunately" there was no management present and there would be none until after I checked out. I did not sleep because the temperature was not right and the HVAC roared inches from my head. The bathroom was microscopic. The "renovations" were shabby with cracked tiles and poor workmanship. Staff were not helpful but had a script of excuses that were impressive. Overall, I gave it one star because negative stars were not available.

Nice Place for location and price
JulieBug Nov 24, 2009
We had a King size bed - the rooms are rather small but we weren't there to spend time in our room anyway. The bed was quite ... comfortable, we had a nice television, microwave, fridge, and safe. The shower was nice. It's all about the location. Difficult to find a decent place with a good price in the North Lincoln Park area. Public parking is only a block away at $17 per day and we parked it and walked everywhere we needed to go, no problem at all. Restaurants and bars everywhere.

Sapori Trattoria on Halsted was fantastic. The lobster ravioli was to die for. They knew that we were celebrating my husband's 50th birthday and made special menus that had "Happy Birthday, Randy" at the top. We also received a complimentary tiramisu, which covered a place the size of my face! also next door to the hotel is "The Half Shell" with excellent seafood = not great ambience and they only take cash but the food was terrific.

There are no facilities in this hotel. They use a Bally's gym nearby for anyone desiring physical fitness facilities. Bally's is often crowded, and frequented by a lot of people, so not always the easiest to deal with. Any tourist type attractions are downtown requiring the El adventure. There are also no on-site parking facilities.

The first thing you can expect is a change in rates - on the two times I've stayed there, the Internet rate chosen in advance ... was not honored. Fortunately, the difference this time was slight, but the prior visit required far too much jawboning to get them to set it right. I won't take any more chances with this hotel. And no one tells you in advance that they will charge you $50 for an early departure. You get hit with that information when you sign in. Second, if you are a single person, you will get jammed into a shoebox. Seems like a double bed in the room which required me to squeeze past the TV in order to get into the rest of the room. Finally, if you are expecting something close to downtown, it is a half hour ride on the El to get you there or a two mile plus walk.

Not as expected...
JT Money Nov 8, 2009
The room was not what was described in the description. I was under the impression that there was suppose to be two beds and ... not just one double bed. We had three people and they wouldnt get us a roll away or cot. Hotel rooms were small especially when you have three people and one sleeping on the floor. Was not impressed by the hotel and its price. Was expecting a larger room for the money. A little high.. The only positives were the good breakfast selection and location.

Just what we needed
ashleymc Oct 3, 2009
We came to see a couple of Cubs games and it was a little bit of a walk to Wrigley (about 15 blocks) but there's plenty to do ... and see along the way. The room was small, but clean, and was exactly what we needed. We didn't spend much time in the hotel room and weren't looking for anything fancy. But we had everything we needed. You could hear people coming up and down the halls and it sounded like they vacuumed the place all day long. But it was clean throughout the hotel as well as safe. Check out is at 12 and we were wanting to do some sightseeing before we headed out to the airport on our last day; they did offer to lock up our baggage until we were ready for it. This made our last minute sightseeing much more enjoyable! The staff was great - friendly and accommodating, though not the best at recommending places for food. We were able to find some good ones on our own and through talking to some locals though - see helpful hint!

Baladoche (2905 North Clark Street) - serve Zucker Waffles with ingredients from Belgium. The owner is very friendly and will tell you everything possible about the ingredients that are used. Also have Gelato and Espresso, which we didn't try. But the waffles were great! Another place we were happy with was RJ Grunts (2056 Lincoln Park West) - recommended by the locals, the burgers were great; homemade potato chips, and good beer made for a really good meal. We were there right at lunch time, and it was busy.

The location of this hotel is perfect, right in the heart of Lincoln Park. The was was AMAZING! I couldnt believe it, ... especially compared to the hotel prices downtown, and parking was $15 cheaper! I definitely recommend this hotel as aopposed to staying in the downtown area, its a great, clean hotel with free breakfast, cheap parking (free street parking available as well!)and a perfect location. We were going to the pride parade, and wanted a hotel nearby. I found this hotel & it's very inexpensive for the Chicago ... area, and it was one block from the parade!! That was our main concern, so the hotel worked out really well. We did go to check in early, he said no problem, and when i turned to get our bags they checked someone else in. So, we had them hold our bags and checked in later. They were super nice, so it was no big deal. The one bedroom was kind of small, but that was no big deal either- we just needed somewhere to get ready & sleep! Overall, great experience.

Great hotel in the heart of Chicago
aubedawn Jun 8, 2009
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! It was only about a mile's walk to Wrigley Field, and access to public ... transportation was quick and easy. The staff was more than happy to help us out with directions around Chicago; they keep a stack of maps at the front desk, and they will highlight the route to the place you are asking about. They even helped us learn how to use the bus route system, and suggested an excellent restaurant for us to try Chicago-style deep dish pizza! The room was very nice (complete with flat-screen TV), and the bed was comfortable. I suppose our only complaint with the hotel was with the shower; the water temperature would vary wildly between hot and cold without even touching the handles. However, this is not enough to deter us from another stay at this hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit this fantastic city!

Right in the immediate neighborhood, there are many resturants to choose from. If you're looking for a diner-type, family-oriented restaurant, try The Grove. However, if you're up for Turkish food, try Cousin's -- you won't be disappointed. On weekends, Cousin's is packed, but it's worth the wait.
