Chic. Modern. Thinking.
Set in the heart of downtown San Francisco's "South of Market", W San Francisco stands out with the offbeat, yet sophisticated spirit of the city it calls home. Literally stands out. On the Third Street Podium of W San Francisco, towering 46 feet above street level, is a fantastic reclining figure made of irregularly sheared bronze strips woven together. Conceived by a local artist to complement the neo-classical design of W San Francisco, the figure (with one arm draped casually over the edge of the podium) also reflects W's whimsical reinvention of public and private space. Experience it for yourself.
Welcome to the W Living Room. Where we've broken down the walls of conventional design to create a completely open lobby space. Relax. Quench your spirit with a drink from The Bar at XYZ. Or play away. Specially designed board games are waiting to be brought to life. Meet. Mingle. Read. Or do whatever makes you happy. Created by Starwood Hotels and Resorts, W San Francisco offers savvy travelers the style and design they deserve.
Located at Third Street and Howard, W San Francisco is adjacent to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and directly across from the Moscone Center. In an important part of the new development area called "Yerba Buena Gardens," we are five blocks from Union Square and just steps from an eclectic array of boutiques, theaters and galleries. The Metreon, a new high-tech Sony entertainment center that includes a multi-screen theater, is just one block away.
Starwood Turbo Net High Speed Internet Access is available in all guest and meeting rooms.

I really enjoyed staying at the hotel. The Acura car took us to the theater, fishermens wharf, and other places for free. The ... hotel staff was friendly. The lounge is very nice for people who want to get a drink and the XYZ restaurant is amazing. The bliss spa products top any Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton products. The room smelled amazing and was very comfortable. The view was great and the television had a lot of channels. There was also a nice ipod dock and the beds were comfortable.

Halloween Night Stay
Maxdout Nov 1, 2009
We checked in very fast, even on Halloween. The staff was very friendly and professional. The room was beautiful- i loved the ... Buddah in the room. Great view. People who dont have a room key cant just go up to the rooms. I love this because it even though there was a hue club event going on during Halloween night, we didnt hear any noise because only hotel guests have access to the rooms. Room service was really fast - we got our food in 45 minutes (the veggi burger was a little burned). The only real down side to the W is that valet is 45+tax. Other than that we had a great couple stay.

Not a big fan of the W pre-made, heat up & serve menu. Found Ducca at the Westin which is a block north on 3rd to be a great close alternative; especially for late night dining. Excellent service, food and nice atmosphere; loved the outdoor seating. Starbucks is a few steps south on 3rd & Walgreens is fairly close up on Market/4th.

First stay at this hotel
Ozone Sep 15, 2009
The hotel is across the street from the Moscone Center and the Yerba Buena Park, only a few doors away from SFMOMA, and about ... a 15-minute walk to the stores around Union Square. The friendly staff and ambiance of the hotel make it a haven for a busy business traveler--but it also would be a great place to stay for an urban vacation because of its convenient location. The food and wine selections at the XYZ Restaurant and bar were excellent, making it possible to dine well without leaving the hotel. Wish list: The desk area in the room needs a bright desk lamp for reading and writing. A hot pot or coffee maker in the room would make it possible to have hot water for tea and coffee at one's leisure.

What one would expect from the W Hotel
Ex SF resident Aug 27, 2009
Great experience staying at the W. No front desk wait, good service, clean room, quiet room, nice bar/lobby scene. $8 for ... 8oz of Fiji water is a little crazy, but Walgreens is around the corner which sells 48oz of Fiji for $2. Stay away from the mini bar/snacks too. Looks like those items haven't been touched for quite some time; prob because of the prices. Overall, what you'd expect from a W Hotel. 4th time staying here and will stay again.

Romantic Weekend
ryan Jul 23, 2009
We had a great time at the hotel. I was a little dissapointed to have the room service delivery guy suggest that I should ... tip more than the 20% + room delivery fee. He then explained that he only got 15% not the 20%. Frankly dropping off food to a room shouldn't get 15% of a $200 breakfast.

The best thing about the hotel was that all of the staff were super friendly and willing to help you find whatever you ... needed. They did it in such a way that it didn't seem like they were doing it out of obligation.

Friday they had a live DJ that we listened to for an hour before going out into town, and Saturdays the hotel bar becomes a hot spot for people who are not staying at the hotel.

Style, with no substance
MS Jul 21, 2009
The concierge was extremely helpful. The rest of the staff were not. W's "Whatever, Whenever" should be renamed to "Nothing, ... Never." Had to pay 15$ a day for internet, which is unreasonable. No coffee available, ordering coffee for two in the morning cost us 20$. These basic amenities shou.d be free at any and every hotel. The room was great, however, the bathroom left a lot to be desired. Overall, i don't think that I would stay here again. While I was there I also learnt that the hotel was recently sold at a big loss. Go figure!!

Happy Traveler Jul 13, 2009
Check-in was a breeze and we got one room while the other one was still being cleaned. The Acura desk was convenient and easy ... to reserve for rides around the city. XYZ bar was great for people-watching and the drinks were strong. Its a short walk to Union Square, all the downtown shopping and Chinatown. Bliss Spa is the best part of the hotel and definitely worth the treatments. I will definitely come back to W hotels for a stay or a drink!

Expensive with costly add-ons
Seattle guy May 24, 2009
Spiffy hotel and quiet room, but the added charges were extremely irritating. Basic internet service costs $15/night, a pot ... of coffee in the morning was $25, and I splurged on using a half-bottle of champagne from the in-room bar (for which it was impossible for me tell from the information what the cost would be) which ended up being an outlandish $80. This was my first, and last, time staying at a W.

Came up for business reasons and booked with Orbitz to save client money. Hotel is beautiful and very well maintained. ... Rooms are quiet and comfy.
