Just Ok.

The hotel was just ok, nothing special. The rooms were pretty dumpy, and we did not get the whirlpool bathtub in our room ... that we were expecting. The website makes the place look a lot nicer than it really is. The lobby and pool area were very nice. Decent continential breakfast every morning.

The people at the hotel were great. but i am inquiring about a refund because my husband was falsely arrested and detained by ... the Middletown Police for a restraining order which does not exist. We were run out of town in the middle of the night by the Middletown policeand left late Sunday evening. This was a trip for our first wedding anniversary and obviously were are devastated by our experience and i am wondering if we can be reimbursed for the 2 days we did not stay. I am very aware of your policy however if you can find it in your hearts to reimburse us something after this devastating experience we would be most grateful. And by the way I would not recommend any one traveling to the newport/middletown area for anything! the way they treat visitors there is atrocious to say the least. most sincerely Mrs Deborah J. Not what we expected
travelingduo Sep 7, 2009
Our room was spacious (it fit 2 full bed, a loveseat and coffee table, and a desk with room to move about comfortably), ... however the wallpaper was peeling from the corners and there were some water stains on the drop-ceiling tiles. The beds were EXTREMLY comfortable and the linens were clean. We found the layout of the hotel to be a bit peculiar, you have to walk down a hall then through these very creepy, old, and dirty sitting areas into the hallway for the rooms. We did not stay in a king room so we did not have spa tubs and found the area where the toilet, tub/shower was to be very small and cramped, but they were atleast clean. There were two doors that adjoined the rooms on either side. We found the doors were not very well insulated/sound proofed and could hear the people next to us pretty clearly, especially when they were coming in and out. We enjoyed the location, very close to the beach, the mansions, and downtown shopping (5-10minutes). The hotel is located off of a very busy main road but we did not hear any traffic from our rooms durring the day or night, and had little to no problem getting in our out durring busy traffic times. The service at the desk was friendly and helpful. We did not enjoy the continental breakfast. There was a choice of 3 cold cereals, make your own waffles and some packaged strussels. Not much to choose from and what was there was not very good. We ate at IHOP for the last 2 days we were there, about 3 minutes away from the hotel on the same road. We enjoyed the pool, it was clean and the water is heated so it was nice and warm. All in all are stay was comfortable, but definatly a 2-3star hotel.

Newport Lover Aug 23, 2009
We like to look for places to stay that don't cost much so that we have extra money to spend on activities, dining, shopping, ... etc. This place was not bad at all! I don't know what other reviewees were expecting, but I view a hotel as simply a place to sleep and shower in. Nice mattresses! We would definitely stay there again. Location is just fine! A few minutes down the road and you can begin your adventures in Newport!

KeepTru Aug 11, 2009
We've stayed here 3 different times as a last resort during the Newport festivals and have always been disappointed. Our room ... was cramped by a large TV/'fridge cabinet in the entryway, which I scraped my shoulder on getting to the bed. The A.C. didn't work well. The room curtains were falling off the hangers. And there's an unfinished quality to the rooms. If you try to open the windows, you'll find an extra outer wall from a promised-but-never-finished-room expansion, not really allowing outside air to filter into the room. Breakfast was decent but the fruit was a bit bruised. The pool was the only nice thing about the stay, although the roof was leaking (it was raining that evening). Three times burned-- this hotel strikes out!

Newport Traveler Aug 3, 2009
This hotel is nothing like what was described. The person working at the front desk was rude and snappy when I was checking ... in. The set up of the hotel was strange. The only perk was the shuttle service to and from Newport. The driver was personable and nice. I would not return to this hotel.

Tempest Aug 3, 2009
The staff was somewhat friendly and the room was pretty clean, but it was extremely small, especially the bathroom, and there ... was some strange construction. It was NOT worth the money AT ALL! It would have been the same as staying at the EconoLodge accross the street, only it would have cost half as much.

Could not find anything within a sensible price in the Newport area for that weekend. While it was a reasonable compromise ... on distance vs quality, I found the hotel at the very bottom margin of acceptability. There was that peculiar smell in the hallway. The soaps were a little too eco-firendly (translation: smlled of lye). The worst by far was the breakfast buffet. Practically no choice...not even cream cheese for the toasts

Middletown Mayhem
The House That Tee-Shirts Built Aug 2, 2009
Being called the Newport Spa and Whirlpool Suites, we expected the hotel to be a little closer to Newport than it actually ... was. The most troubling aspect of the hotel was the apparently abandoned attempt at a total renovation/expansion of the hotel. Having stayed there the previous summer, I expected the construction I experienced at that time to be well over. Instead, the entire project seems to have been halted half-way through the process with no end in sight. It left our room with a creepy exoskeleton of plywood and pipes outside of our window, into which our room was supposed to be expanded. With all of the other hotels in the area being higher in price, for less than a hundred dollars a night, we really can't complain.

Linda Jul 27, 2009
We got a good price on this, and found that it was a good place to stay. Don't count on beautiful rooms and wonderful pools. ... That's not what this is about. it is close to downtown Newport, and they offer a $2 per person evening shuttle. The staff was friendly, and the room was clean. It seems the phone in our room didn't work, but since we didn't need it, we never asked for help or replacement. Other guests were heard complaining their microwave didn't work, but I never tested mine. Overall, I would stay there again, and enjoy the town rather than my room, which is what I generally do while traveling. The hotel was conveniently located, and good enough. When I pick my hotels for the best price I don't expect it all to be perfect. For what we saw, though, they were trying to do their best.

Sweet n low Jul 21, 2009
The staff was very pleasant, The place was only 2 miles from Newport Rhode Island main strip. The rooms were cozy with ... whirlpool for the price we got it for it was a steal. Literally. The beds were made with temper posturpedic mattresses, so I slept like a baby. Parking is right on the side of the premises. I very much liked my 2 night stay.
