Step back in time to when luxury and style meant something. By the pictures on the wall, this was a favorite getaway for ... the stars of yesterday. Was like traveling first class with the rat pack. A quiet, magestic hotel away from the maddening crowds but close enough to all of the splendor of Miami Beach. Hotel on the beach, comp. chairs and umbrellas, unbelivable pool and back courtyard. Southern porches to relax on. Highly recommend.

Nice place right on the beach, nice staff, good location for quiet times. Very few local restaurants in walking distance, ... which I found annoying if I just wanted a coffee or easy breakfast. Expensive Valet parking 27$ per day. Hidden fees. $15 per day - hotel fee? I would prefer if they were just upfront about costs. Overall a nice place off the strip and very quiet.

Very Nice Property & Excellent Service
Dave Dec 6, 2009
This is a very nice property with very clean rooms and excellent service. Pretty good value near - but not in the midst of - ... South Beach area From a VERY long term traveler, here is a FIRST: I left behind a phone charger and a pair of shorts. Every time in the past (35 years) something like that has happened, no matter how fast I called, the items were NEVER found. (Yeah, right...) This time, I called the hotel and in 30 minutes the security office called. A maid had brought the items to them and they are being sent FedEx to me!! This alone will bring me back to The Palms.

The customer service was dreadfull. We tried to check in at 9:30 and was not able to get our room till 4:00. everyone ... around us was just walking in and checking into their room. they told us they would call our phone when room was ready but that never happened. We were told a king size bed, but ended up with 2 doubles. None of the ice machines worked in the hotel.

Construction Noise and Mess
MrFalcon Oct 16, 2009
We got a discounted price, but only upon arrival realized that the discounted price was because the hotel was pretty much ... transformed into a construction site. When asked to be moved to another room (not right next to the construction area), we were placed in a room sharing a wall with the elevators (a different kind of loud noise). The hotel was pretty much empty, so finding a better, quiet room was not something impossible to accomplish. [...]Not only did we feel that we've been cheated into this situation, but the staff was not nice and unprofessional.

Good news and bad news
Beach lover Oct 8, 2009
Overall, the experience was good. The hotel was very nice if you were not in the active construction, which is everywhere. ... The rooms were very nice but small. There should be explicit notes when booking that check in is NOT until 4 PM so you can plan travel accordingly. We wasted most of our first afternoon since we were there so early (1:30). There should also be explicit notes when booking about construction. I have come to discover that "Deal" or "Value" [...] translates to "Active Construction". Initially they put us in a room where they were actively renovating the rooms immediately surrounding us. Why would you do that to people?? They moved us at our request the next day. The food and drinks at the hotel are good but very expensive. You are better off eating elsewhere, but there are not alot of good alternatives close. The hotel is just about a mile north of the fun stuff. You can walk via a nice boardwalk along the beach to the tourist spots on Ocean Drive or Lincoln Ave. We took a cheap cab to those spots in the evenings. Once we got over the late check in and construction we enjoyed the place and will return someday post construction.

Would be amazing but Under Construction
Cousin Getaway Oct 5, 2009
It would have been nice to know that construction was going on. The main reason of staying there was because it was further ... away from the major strip and far from the noise. Also, the key cards were easily stripped and had to get them reset to enter the rooms. There were also some minor electrical issues. The staff did try their best to accommodate, but they could have been friendlier or a bit more approachable. If construction wasn't going on... All in all it was a really great place. The pool area is tranquil and steps away from the beach. The nightlife is a short taxi ride away and ideally can get some sleep after. Also there's the spa right in the building if you want to get some pampering done. Seems like a best place for family, couples, and singles. Something for everyone.

Rude Awakening; Unprofessional Front Des
Niagara in Miami Aug 17, 2009
While we were at the hotel we were awoken by a Jack Hammer and drilling early in the morning after being up for over 36 hours ... in travelling to Miami. When we addressed by the front desk they were not very accommodating. They suggested we go somewhere else...which we felt would not be a sufficient possibility as we live 3000 miles away and are unfamiliar of the area. After debating and arguing with their staff they said we could change rooms. I specifically asked if we can change rooms after the pool-they said that was fine. We called for the bell man to come get our things for our move and once called they told us that they had given away our rooms. I called again to speak with the front desk manager and he said that it was their mistake and we'd have to spend the night again in that room-and if we didn't like it we could leave. Compeletely INSUFFICIENT. He kept me on the phone for over 2 hours with no resolution. We asked the conciere if they could check if a restaurant would be avaialbe that evening-he said yes and when we arrived they were...CLOSED.

Noisy place
Rick Aug 10, 2009
The hotel was extremely noisy during the day due to construction going on in the hotel. I also requested to have my room far ... from the elevator when I checked in and the staff said no problem. When I went to the room it was located directly across from the elevator. I went back to the front desk and the staff then stated they could not find me another room and I checked in on a Tuesday night. Also the floor I was on had a ton of dust due to the construction. Not may places to eat close by.

Review of The Palms SoBe
BG Aug 9, 2009
The Palms South Beach was a great hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed the pool and access to the beach. The staff was ... friendly. The hotel was close to the nightlife action and shopping . One thing that could have made the stay better would have been having a king size bed the first night when we arrived like we requested. Unfortunately, the hotel is doing some construction which made it hard to sleep in and it was very loud. Overall it was an enjoyable stay!

The food in the restaurant was healthy and delicious, and worth the money but if you want to spend less on food, there is a grocery store on Collins Avenue about 4 blocks south of the hotel. We had asked someone when we first arrived if there was anything close and they told us not until Lincoln Ave where there is a big Walgreens, but they were mistaken! It's less than a 5 minute walk, and though not huge, they have most of anything we wanted. We got crackers and cheese and deli meat there and made snacks and stuff for under $10, also they had a decent beer selection, wine and other standard goodies you could stock up on for food to bring to the beach.
