The best hotel ever

We arrived to Key Largo on Friday August 21, 2009 for a nine day vacation. We drove from Fort Lauderdale, and were tired and ... hungry. We arrived at the hotel at 3 pm and it was a very easy check-in that took only 1 minute. We were then given a map of the resort and they showed us exactly how to get to our room. We were not really expecting a room as wide and as nice as the one we got. They told us before that it will be non-view, two double beds, but it turned out they gave us a very nice balcony room with a view of the ocean, and with two queen beds (and very very comfy beds). The room was very clean all the time. The pool although a little bit small but it was great, especially with the high temperatures in Key Largo. The staff was always very friendly and smiling. We used the computer in the lobby a lot to check our emails, and the staff was always ready to help. The location of the hotel was excellent, and close to stores and restaurants. We enjoyed the Marriot Hotel a lot and would definitely go back again next year.

This hotel had a lot of ammenities and, for an older property, was well maintained / clean. The Sunday Brunch at Gus' Grill ... was a good value with very good food. We struggled daily with the housekeeping staff that would only leave 2 towel sets (although we were a party of 3) in the room, and seemed to have an attitude when they had to bring more. Traveling with our grandson, we wished we had stayed in Islamorada which is where we spent most of our time (activities and dining). Although only about 17 miles away, the speed limit is 45mph and there are numerous traffic lights making it a longer trip than you like when made a few times per day. All said, we were pleased with the property but would not stay this far north in the Keys if we had to do it again.

Beautiful resort at a fair price!
Kevin B Jun 2, 2009
My wife and I stayed for about 5 days. The hotel is about 45min from Miami and 1.5hrs from Key West. We didn't really know ... what to expect about the island chain, because we'd never been there, but we hoped for great beaches... which there were not. Key West has the biggest beach, but it's a far cry from the Caribbean, Miami or the Jersey Shore (that's South Jersey, btw). Regardless of the lack of good beaches, the resort was exemplary. The hotel staff was very friendly, the scene was very quiet, the pool and hot tub were great (could have been bigger, but they were a good size), the food was fantastic (try the wings), and they had some great happy hour specials at Breezers (one of the bar/grills). The rental prices for the water sports were pretty hefty, given our budget, but I suppose it's to be expected for a resort area. I would have loved to have gone jet skiing or kayaking, but I couldn't justify the costs. I would definitely recomend this hotel and location to anyone looking for a quiet getaway, if you don't mind the lack of beaches. Otherwise... if you're looking for a happening place for young couples and something with a great night life, try a closer location to Key West (or stay on the Island) OR Miami Beach... both are excellent locales. As far as resorts/hotels go, however, this and maybe a couple of others in Key Largo & Key West are worthy of the resort price.

The view , the view and the view

We went to Key Largo for my sons wedding. We were going to stay in the same hotel with him and his new bride in the next town ... however when I saw the pictures on line I called and said " look I am looking for a good place to stay and I do not want to come down there and be disappointed" the gentleman at their hotel said " well if you reallly want to stay at a nice place I suggest you go to Key Largo and stay at the Marriot" or some other that he named. Boy are we glad, the Marriot was beautiful. From the moment we pulled in to the drive my husband stated "you did good hun". Tamika at the front desk was so ever kind, she knew the view was the most imprtatnt thing to us and the view we got was spectacular. It could not have been a better view. The restaurant "Guses Grille" had us from day one. We never ate any where else the entire time we were there. The food tasted the best, the service was the best we had no reason to go anywhere else and the prices were resonable. Marriot Key Largo is a #1.

I am a Marriott Awards members so I always stay in a Marriott. They are great. this hotel was wonderful, the food was great ... the rooms were clean and there was plenty for the family to do. I must tell you however that I had the worst room in the hotel!! Every morning a tractor tailer pulled up outside of my balcony around 9:00 A.M The smoke stack for the truck was the exact height of the room so the family was awakened each day in paradise by the sound and overbearing smell of diesel!! Would only stay in the section of the hotel nearest the pool. I would recomend that they send the delivery trucks in after 10:00 A.M. and direct them in the oposite direction so the stacks on the passanger side of the trucks face away from the hotel.

The resort style accomodations were similar to those in the Carribean. All of the staff were friendly and very helpful. The ... balcony view overlooking the bay was romantic. I would make a return visit.
