Say no to Gulf Island View!
Old Ohio Guy Jan 19, 2010
The Gulf Island View is nice if you don't open your screened patio. The kitchen fans run 24/7 and are not only loud, but also ... contribute to the smell. It was the coldest in years, so our doors were shut. Hotel did not shut hurricane curtains in the outside hallway, so hallway was in the 30's as well.

We had a fabulous meal at the Terra Nostra Restorante which is located just across the street. The hotel's restaurant was ok, but service really was lacking.

Great Place
AwesomeSal Jan 16, 2010
Great spot on the beach, very nice pool area and bar overlooking the ocean. Rooms were nice and clean and the gulf island ... view balcony is a really good setup. Its big and you can see the sunset and the beach due to the layout - big plus. All the beach activities that you want to do are right at the hotel. One of the newer hotels in the area and it is within beach walking distance of the Fort Myers Pier and the Times Square area. The hotel is good for couples or families. Overall I would say a very good experience.

Great Italian restaurant right across the street called Terra Nostra...casual dining but GREAT FOOD!! Also, the "Time Square" is a short walk down the beach for some other bars and nightlife. Located by the pier.

Holiday getaway
Devo Dec 30, 2009
The hotel amenities and staff were wonderful. The downside was the noise. The halls were noisy, you could hear your ... neighbors when they moved chairs, or anything else in their rooms. Didn't get much sleep on this trip.

Fort Myers Beach
Summer Traveler Aug 26, 2009
We loved the hotel room. The room felt like we were living in a condominium for 5 days. The room had the usual, a bedroom, ... bathroom, but it also had a living room and a small kitchen. We also had a screened in balcony that looked over the Gulf of Mexico. There are a lot of restaurants/bars down the main street that goes through Fort Myers Beach. The majority of the restaurants we went to were average. If you are looking for a great beach, I would recommend not going to Fort Myers Beach. I was very disappointed. The entire stretch of the beach I felt was not very appealing. I thought it could of been cleaner. If you are looking for a great beach, I would spend the extra money and go to Sanibel Island/Captiva which is only 20 minutes away from Fort Myers Beach. The beaches there are beautiful and the water is very clean unlike Fort Myers Beach. Bottom line is, if the hotel was located somewhere else besides Fort Myers Beach I would stay there again and for future vacations I would not hesitate to use Orbitz again.

A nice, relaxing resort...
Adam Jul 28, 2009
Nice hotel, location was ok but a little far from most of the better restaurants/bars; grocery store close by, which was nice ... with a small kitchen area; great parking and on-site facilities; one complaint was that we booked through Orbitz for the "deluxe" room, which Diamondhead doesn't offer-they call it a "premium" room so our room wasn't what we were expecting (we had a basic room but booked it at the "deluxe" room rate...not a Diamondhead issue but an Orbitz issue in my opinion)

Some of the nicer establishments were closer to the pier; a short distance which was better traveled on the beach vs on the road (no sidewalks)

I bought vacation package with Deluxe suite. THERE IS NO DELUX SUITES at the hotel. There are two type of rooms- standard and ... premium( which they do not sell through third party). It was very, very bad experience to deal with Orbitz and Hotel. Never ever book through Orbitz.

Maria's is a very small little eatery just on the other side of the bridge in Fort Myers, the food is fantastic, casual dining and very reasonably priced. We ate their 3 nights in our 10 night stay. There is also a great little family restaurant south of the hotel on the left hand side about 1/4 mile in a strip mall. Fantastic food- accept cash only.

Great Hotel, Great Location!
travelingmom May 10, 2009
Diamondhead was in an excellent location right on the Gulf and only a short walk to the pier, resturaunts, and shopping! The ... hotel resturaunts all had wonderful food and service. The rooms were very large and clean! It was a little noisey early in the mornings and there was some construction next door to the hotel. But overall no complaints and I would deffinately return to Diamondhead Beach Resort!

There is a grocery store very nearby the hotel, and it was helpful for us to keep some food, snacks, drinks in our room to save on some money!
