Drive to downtown Reno for fun!!

Although all of the fine dining restaurants were close together on the casino level, the casual dining restaurants were scattered between casino level and the lower arcade level and were very far apart from each other. Plus, the two coffee shops were directly across the main corridor from each other. Perhaps a bit too close together.

Mother - Daughter Weekend
Navy Mom Nov 3, 2009
The Grand Sierra Resort is located only about five minutes from the airport I flew in to. I found my 12th floor room to be ... large and the furniture comfortable. But, I didn't like that it was located at the very end of the longest corridor in the building ... approximately 200 steps from the elevator, ice machine, and vending machines. Also, the corridor was very dimly lit, making me feel a bit anxious regarding my safety when going to my room late in the evening. The view from my room was poor ... consisting of the flat roofs of other lower parts of the building and a back parking lot. There was no cold water in my bathroom when I first arrived ... Not in the sink, not in the shower, and none for the toilet. Maintenance personnel got it working in about an hour. The bathroom amenities were not great, consisting of one plastic ice bucket (no tray), two glasses (not plastic wrapped), two soaps, one tiny shampoo and one tiny hand lotion. There was no coffee maker. There were several channels available on the large television (good color), but no channel guide. There were several nice shops, a well stocked candy store and a gift shop that I enjoyed. I found none of the live entertainment scheduled during my stay, Saturday thru Monday, of any interest to me. Therefore, I loved the fact that there was a movie theater located on the Arcade level playing new releases for only $3.I ate mainly at The Cafe Sierra due to their varied menu and reasonable prices. The food was quite good. But, after I returned home from my trip and again checked The Grand Sierra Resort website, I discovered that The Cafe Sierra gave seniors 55+ a 50% discount on all meals. As I am 61 and ate there four times, I am disappointed that this discount was not offered to me. I also tried Johnny Rockets, but they were out of the chicken strips I wanted. So I ended up ordering a hamburger, the patty of which I found to be dry and tough and which tasted pre-cooked. Although I was not impressed with my meal, I found the waiter there to be amiable and funny. At the resort's spa I had a Swedish massage and facial. I found the atmosphere relaxing, the prices reasonable and the staff courteous and professional. I came away feeling quite refreshed.[...]

When I checked in and used the bathroom there were 5 large hairs on the floor. Not a great start, especially since I manage a ... hotel and have certain expectations of cleanliness. Disappointed there was no coffee maker in room. Very few plugs available - had to unplug a lamp to plug in my laptop and phone charger. Room was spacious. Nice beds. Staff was pleasant. Convention facilities were well laid out.

This was an awesome price ($33 on wkday)! It even included a breakfast buffet! We were just driving through on our way to ... Napa, and just needed a clean, comfortable place to stay. What a pleasant surprise! No crowds. Great staff. Free valet parking. Really big room. Free internet. We loved the bowling. They allowed a late check out (1 pm). I just wish we would have had more time to enjoy all the other amenities. We wanted to try the golf and arcarde (they even gave us $3/kid in coupons for arcade). My kids didn't want to leave (neither did I). This was beyond a great deal - thanks Orbitz!

The hotel is NOT in downtown Reno so you would have to drive there BUT the GSR offers a great getaway by itself. The hotel ... offers a great nightclub, excellent room and comfortable beds, a spa and resort if needed, a small movie theater, golfing, and other adventures for kids. If I ever went back to Reno, I would DEFINITELY stay at the GSR again.

Where do I start. 1. Non smoking room STANK of old smoke. Clearly non smoking room not enforced or its in the air con. ... Putrid. 2. Room complimentaries not changed day 2.?! No new body wash, shampoo etc. Cheap A*%e even for good price. 3. Tiny area for no smokers - a bit like weeing in a pool & not expecting urine to spread the urine to rest of pool. 4. DOGS & Children everywhere. Cafes, poker areas, foyers.... everywhere. Disgusting. 5. Pulled $100.04 out of poker machine which printed .04c receipt. Basically told it was our problem even if they review CCTV and find culprit. No comps or refund offered. Staff RUDE (Hispanic pokie mechanic said to me when I asked about cameras; "Oh really, I never noticed that Miss..." NEVER EVER WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS STINKY PLACE. RESEARCH AND FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE CHEAPER AND FAIRER.
