This is a wonderful hotel. Very clean rooms, room service twice a day. Very friendly staff. Great pool setup. I liked ... everything about our stay. The only small issue is that a hurricane took away the beach from many hotels in that area, but the beach is still accessible and one can walk to a location with more sand. In the future I suppose the beach will be restored. I highly recommend this hotel.

Hotel was great. I was disappointed that my Marriot Gold was not number not honored with Orbtiz booking and info not relaid, ... but overall the hotel was great .. weather was lousy due to Hurricane IDA, only had 2 hours of sun over 4 days.. room was gorgeus. Italian restaurant very nice... some of the restaurnants not open during the day; would have been nice for that tohave been in place and some other activities due to weather, but would stay here again.. in sun.. Nice workout and spa

Loved everything about the hotel. It was one of the best hotels I have every stayed at. The only disappointing factor was the ... weather. If we had two more sunny days, the vacation would have been perfect. One item I did miss but it was not that important, was a coffee maker in the room.

Sa-Si Thai in the sister hotel next door, is an excellent choice for anyone who has ever considered trying Thai cuisine.

I really enjoyed the JW Mariotte in Cancun. This resort was everything I could have asked for. The staff was very polite ... and easy to talk to. Their recommendations for restaurants and activities were spot on. I was there for a wedding, and the ceremony and reception were absolutely a 5 star experience. Compared to previous vacations, this would be near or at the top.

Perfect!! Completely Satisfactory! Traveled with young kids aged of 3 and 5, we thought that we had made a wrong choice for ... the first couple days. There was no activity on the premise. We visited other hotels nearby. It turned out that the best parts were right in our back yard: the sparkling pools, the top notch service, the best food, and the beautiful beach. Kids played all day at the pool. Parents could be completely relaxed feeling safe, peaceful, and not being too crowded. The beach area is of course among the best spot in Cancun. The Gustino and Simply Seafood restaurants were just awesome.

My regular hotel in Cancun. Used to stay at the Ritz but it got a bit run down and too snutty. JW Marriott has the best staff ... and pool in Cancun. Always travel alone and never feel odd at this hotel. Only problem is the girl that sings in the bar at night is too loud and intrusive. That's why there's no people having drinks in the bar. Hello?

summer traveler Jun 24, 2009
Very relaxing and enjoyable for the most part, and the pool wasn't packed like other places. Staff extremely helpful and ... friendly with one exception(poolside waitress very pushy when asking for a tip). The main lobby was undergoing construction when we arrived, so there was no immediate view of the ocean upon entrance, and it took us a couple of days to navigate around the best way to reach the pool and beach area from our room. My family and I loved it, but I really didn't find any major diferences between the 5 star rated JW and the 4 star rated Marriott that I've stayed in at Puerto Vallarta before.

Hotel Nice - Too pricey, Too quiet...
Natalie Jun 3, 2009
The hotel was very nice- Clean, etc but a bit boring....Felt like we were in a Ghost town. The Restaruants were a ... dissapointment. The seafood place was supposed to open before we came but didn't (i see they are telling people that it is closed for renovation and will now open next week - same thing they said to us two weeks ago). Also for breakfast the only option besides roomservice is the buffet. For 2 people no extras it was $56.00 Oh ya and $4.50 for a can of coke! Eat out or get room service it's actually cheaper. I also enjoy hearing music at the pool. There was no music playing - no bars open. It was just really quiet at the hotel..

Great trip! Hotel was wonderful - spacious and great view and great service! Never felt crowded. Pool was beautiful and ... interesting features that kept my two 10 year olds busy. Fitness center was great- everything you needed for a good workout. Cancun was fun and safe. Only downside was that there was no beach.

The car rental was inexpensive and worked out well since the hotel offered complimentary parking. It was a short trip up the strip to restaurants and it was easy to park. Many of the restaurants appeared to have free parking.

This was my sixth time traveling to Cancun. The JW Marriott was outstanding. The resort is beautiful, the service was ... immpecable. The pool area was very nice and clean. I have stayed at the Fiesta Americana Coral Beach, the Riu Las Americus, and the Marriott Casa Magna. This was by far my favorite experience in Cancun. The Casa Magna is also very nce, which is next door to the JW, however the Jw just has that extra touch. The room was spacious, the bathroom was very nice with seperate tub and shower, granite double sink countertop, and private toilet area. The hotel is a 15 minute taxi ride from the airport, and a 15 minute bus ride to the action. I was traveling alone with my 13 year old daughter, we both had a great time. Do not be afraid to take the bus. It cost us each a dollar h to ride the bus each way. It was safe, and adds to the experience of travel. We spent time shopping at the Isla shopping area. Many good stores and restaurants. Outdoor mall area with an aquarium where you can swim with dolphins. We did not go into Cancun city as things are a bit more dangerous in Mexico these days. We stayed in the resort area, and ventured out along the strip, and felt completely safe as always. The only disappointing thing about our trip this time was the beach was gone! We had traveled to Cancun at the end of December and could walk the beach, not this time. My understanding is the north winds had come in and since hurricane wilma, the sand has been very soft, and easily washes away with the tide. They are planning to rebuild the beach as the winds change direction this summer. I highly recommend the JW, also sign up for the buffet breakfast as a package deal. It is very nice and is served from 6:30am-noon everyday. If not included in your stay, the buffet costs $25.00 per person. We had it included, and then went for dinner elsewhere. It helped keep the cost of our trip down. Happy travels to Cancun!

Great place to stay
El Conquistador Apr 8, 2009
We had a great stay after we got the right room. They said they only had rooms with king size beds available but we could ... upgrade to a suite for $80 per night. After showing them our printed reservation, they magically found a "two queen bed" room for our family. After that, everything was fantastic. Quiet rooms, all with views of the ocean. Beautiful pools. Very friendly staff. The only bad thing was if you wanted a chair next to the pool you need to go down and claim a spot before 7:00am or they will all be gone. Some spots had towels on for the entire time I was there (8-2) and no one showed up and the staff will not remove the belongings.

Smarty Mar 11, 2009
We chose this hotel partly based on other travelers' reviews and we were not disappointed. Great hotel, great service, ... excellent location. Very close to town with the Cancun bus service (get pesos for the buses or small dollar bills, you can pay in usd but the change will be either in pesos or non existent). The pool area in this hotel is fantastic, with a wonderful view of the Caribbean sea. Due to Hurricane Wilma, the beach is narrower than it used to be, but it is quite adequate, it is cleaned nicely compared to other areas and there are plenty of areas to swim close to the hotel without worrying about jutting rocks. The buffet breakfast was good and plentiful but a bit pricey at $20.00 per person if you don't eat that much. We found that a lot of people used the hotel store to purchase coffee and a bagel, or a muffin, at a much cheaper price. There are also some stores available across the street from the hotel (the cheapest one was OXOX or was it XOXO). The rooms were very nice, they all seem to have a view of the Caribbean sea. The hotel next door is also a Marriott, we tried restaurants at both hotels, and liked them a lot, especially La Capilla in the Casa Magna Marriott. We have stayed at dozens of different hotels in Cancun over the years and this one rates very high on our list, we will go back.

The best restaurant in Cancun has to be "Habicuela". It is located downtown Cancun on Margarita Street. It will take about 15 min. by cab. You will need to make a reservation ahead of time and ask to be seated in the courtyard. The food is great, but the decor is the reason why we have been back for the last 20 years (They are also opening another one on the hotel zone any day now but we don't know if it will be the same decor).

The JW Marriott was just beauti/full. Our suite was just lovely. The view from our room was breathtaking and I got up each ... morning that we were there to watch the sunrise. I then headed to the spa for a workout, and I got to workout while watching the morning news. They had state of the art workout equipement with tv attachments, and lovely views of the ocean and the lagoon. I would then get into the very clean whirlpool, and just relax:>)Afterward it was back to the room shower, and head down to the gift shop for fruit and coffee and head out to the pool. I really liked their gift shop that also had pastries, and sandwiches. To be honest I did not want to leave the resort. My partner and I had lunch at the beachwalk restaurant, and for supper we would get carry out from the restaurant or sandwich shop and eat on the lovely balcony. If we did not have to work we would move into that hotel. We will be back.
