Quiet rooms, comfortable beds. Nice breakfast buffet. Good location for seeing the sights. Just 3-4 blocks from the ... Capitol. 10 -15 minute walk to most museums. We saw 4 of the Smithsoneons plus two more museums. You would want to take a cab to the Holocaust Museum as it is just a bit out of walking distance....especially after walking all week and walking in each museum. There are not very many restaurants or bars in the immediate area, so we had to eat/drink before heading back to the hotel. There are many options within 8-10 blocks though. I didn't mind the walk and only used a cab the night it rained. Clean and beautiful city. I would consider staying there again! Be sure to wear your most comfortable tennis shoes. You will get very tired feet, but it is worth it! Most people who live in DC had on tennis shoes or flip flops while walking to the Metro after work. It is a true walking town.

This is one of the busiest hotels in D.C. due to its location just steps from the Capitol. It is a great place to stay if ... you have business or an event on the Hill. It is well-staffed and efficiently run, for the most part. Maid service was a little on-and-off, but nothing too major(short a towel twice and a glass once). If you don't like noise, ask for a room away from elevators, ice machines and housekeeping stations - all of which were exceedingly loud here.

Six days in Washington DC
Andy & Carol Sep 8, 2009
The purpose of the trip was to tour Washington's sites. From the Hyatt Regency on New Jersey SW the Capitol and Union Station ... was a short walk, Smithsonian a medium walk and White House a long walk. A taxi back to the hotel was $8 - $10 (includes a $2 to $3 tip). We scheduled one day on the Old Troley (Hop on/off), one day Mount Vernon Excursion Tour (3 hr boat ride and 3 hrs at Mount Vernon), 3 hour Odyssey Dinner Cruise for two (Both boat trips are a must do) - See caution note.
Traveler type: Couples
CAUTION: The Mount Vernon Excursion Tour and Odyssey Dinner Cruise departs from Water Street. Both cruises are excellent. "DO NOT" BELIEVE THE CRUISE LINES WHEN THEY SAY A TAXI WILL BE AVAILABILE. IT'S A 'BIG' LIE. The hotel desk clerk at a nearby hotel states that these cruise lines always leave their pasangers stranded. The desk clerk will call a cab for you, however, he states that cabs do not want to pick up fares at this location. MAKE YOUR OWN RETURN TRANSPORTATION ARANGEMENT WITH THE HOTEL WERE YOU ARE STAYING.

Lola Betts Sep 7, 2009
It was already late (10:00 p.m.) when I called the Front Desk the first night, yet the man who answered sprightly addressed ... me by my name then quickly asked how he could be of help. Wow, talk of guest being first, I felt like a million! I just inquired if the water from the tap was safe to drink and he assured me it is, adding that the hotel has never had any issue of its potability. Kudos to this (young?) fellow and to the hotel for training its staff well.
Traveler type: Couples
The hotel's location is ideal especially for those without cars, due to proximity to public transport and the Capitol: Metrobuses ply both streets that bound the hotel, and the Union Station is just a 5-minute walk away. Even someone who walks with a cane (like my husband) won't mind the distance. Best of all, the Smithsonian museums are also spitting distance away, just 10 minutes walk.

Decent hotel
JD Sep 7, 2009
This was a great hotel. The room was very nice and it had a beautiful lobby, restaurant and bar. Also, the location was ... pretty good. You can see the Capitol building from the front of the hotel. Check in/out was very quick and easy with the check in/out kiosks that were available. Also, the Union Station metro stop was just two blocks away via a scenic walk through the park with a view of the Capitol. However, the downside is that the room did not have a microfridge and you had to pay if you wanted wireless internet access (two things that are usually standard in most hotels). Overall though it is a tremendous value for the price and i would probably stay here again based on the location and the overall cleanliness and appearance of the lobby and room.
Traveler type: Couples
The Union Station metro stop is about 2 blocks from the hotel and for about $1.35 will take you just about anywhere in the city you want to go (much cheaper than a cab).

The minute we walked into the hotel, late at night, the counsier was there to help us with flights, etc. He helped as we were ... leaving also, with computers and flight plans. The cleaning staff on the floors did not have extra coffee 2times,on different days, when I enquired. One cleaning lady was very loud outside of our door in a.m. She wasn't friendly when I asked for coffee and she didn't speak English. She said something like "no mojo". Room had some items left. A golf tee under air c. and a matchbook under bed.Rest was clean. Food, chef and wait staff were excellent. Best meal in the whole world. Yum! Yum! Location, excellent!! Deli, pool, fitness all great! I would go again.

However, the room I was checked into was "out of service" and I was still checked into the room. A/C not operable and in Aug in Washington DC, it was not pleasant. Great location, right down the street from the Capitol. All of the parking in our hotel was full. We parked across the street ... at another hotel at a price of $45.00 a day. The hotel we stayed at was $41.00 a day. We never used our car as Cabs were cheap and plentiful. We enjoyed a night tour of DC using a local tour agency. The tour guide was very knowledgable and friendly. We also toured the Museums, about 2 a day.Food was very expensive all over.

The location was great for all the DC attractions. Very nice and clean for a good price. My only complaint is if you go ... during the week you have to use valet parking which is expensive. We were there during the weekend and parked free on the street. There is several homeless people around the area and had to walk several blocks if eating out of the hotel although we never felt unsafe or had any problems. Staff is always out front and helpful.

The only drawback to this hotel were prices for food in first floor restaurant and soda/goodies in the first floor ... convenience store. Our room rates averaged like $90 a day I think because congress just finished session.I think the regular price was around $200/day and the room was up to that caliber. Two blocks to Union Station where food court offered very reasonable prices & very good food and plenty of variety. Also;two blocks in opposite direction is the capital.Lots of things to see in walking distance or a short cab ride. All staff and employees were very friendly and courteous. We would go back there in a moment!!

The location is simply outstanding. Only a block or two from the Capitol. The $31 to $41 per day for parking was a bit ... dissapointing, I guess all one could say is relative to the area, It was not a big shocker. It's still an "in your face" gouge. Everything was clean, and looked like the standards are kept high. I expected that from a Hyatt hotel, and they delivered. $10 per day, for internet connection was nickel and Diming. Only issue was when we needed towels and called housekeeping and they did not deliver as promsed. I went to the front desk, and they contacted housekeeping again. A half hour later, still no towels, so I found a guy cleaning rooms down the hall and he gave me a couple towels.. Problem solved, not a big deal.

We started our morning searching for a quick bite for breakfast outside of the hotel. We walked around until we were directed to Union Station. We needed to pass our hotel ot get there. If we would have known about it - it was only about two blocks away- we would have went there right away and saved time. Another tip - We used the hop on/hop off red bus. If you want to get a lot done and have a small group, or a large group who moves quickly, this is the route to take. I have used them in several cities and it is a huge time saver! With the $30 price tag you can visit about 40 sites as well as take a nighttime ride - very beautiful! You can get on by the Capital or Union Station - those are the closest to the hotel. Enjoy!
