Would recommend to a friend!

The hotel is conveniently located adjacent to the Torrey Pines golf courses. In addition to playing golf, we visited the ... Birch Aquarium, Sea World, and the San Diego Zoo. We also caught a show at the La Jolla Playhouse. It may have been perception but it seemed to empty. We visited during a holiday weekend so was a bit surprised. You may purchase discounted tickets to local attractions in the hotel's gift shop.

Great location - 20 minutes to airport, Sea World, Zoo. Friendly staff across the board. Not a ton of children around - ... which was not a bad thing - and everyone was very friendly to our 3 year old. Best 80 minute massage and lovely pedicure. Very clean work out facility - fully stocked with water, towels. Zero complaints other than the fact that the pool could be 5-10 degrees warmer. Golfing doesn't get any closer - played the North and South courses and drove 20 minutes to Encinitas to play a round. Del Mar beach and Torrey Pines reserve/beach are a very short drive away and were not very crowded.

Money savers tip, Short Drive

One exit up the freeway there is a whole foods and a trader joes. Great way to stock up on wine and bubbly (the bar or room service are happy to provide glasses and ice buckets). Also, great for buying familiar snacks for kids. There is a starbucks next to trader joes or you can go next door to the Hilton where they brew starbucks coffee and have a small espresso bar.

The Torrey Pines Lodge was very relaxing, extremely clean, and the hotel staff was the best. It felt like we were at a ... upscale secluded resort, very quiet and peaceful. But yet only minutes from downtown San Diego. The hotel is also a craftmanship masterpeice.

Some aspects were very ...

Patricia Aug 28, 2008

Some aspects were very good: room decor with beautiful Tiffany lamps, private balcony and a larger than average-sized room. ... The fitness center was excellent. We were very disappointed with the uncomfortable beds in our room--they seemed old and worn-out and we both had back problems after our stay. The staff was helpful but seemed unsure of how to handle things most of the time. The A. R. Valentien restaurant was excellent for breakfast but very disappointing for dinner--we rarely saw our waiter after the food was delivered; he never checked with us to see if everything was satisfactory, which at those prices was unbelievable. I doubt that we would stay at this hotel again.

Recreation/Attractions tip, Long Walk

You can take a really nice walk through the Torrey Pines State Reserve and have access to the beach. It's about a 2 mile walk with some steepness towards the end as you descend to the beach. You need to check the tide tables first, as the tide coming in limits beach access.
