Decent hotel for the money
Lasard Jan 27, 2010
I stayed at the Rio to visit friends who were there for a convention. The staff, from the time I checked in, to the time I ... left was friendly. However, the week I was there, Las Vegas experienced week long and non-stop rain. I was on the 10th floor, and on the third night of my stay, when I entered my room in the afternoon, I noticed water began to come through my windows and soaked a large area of the carpet around the windows. I was relocated to around room in a different part of the hotel. In this room, the buttons for the alarm on the clock radio were non-functioning, and in the morning I got up, there wasn't any hot water in the sink or shower. The flush handle on the toilet fell off. One thing I noticed in both rooms I stayed in, the floor and table lamps are wore out. The shades are loose and damaged, and they are loose at the base. They really need to be fixed or replaced. The hotel did reimburse me for my last nights stay, which I appreciate. What I liked about the hotel, are the comfortable beds and the in-room mini refrigerator. In the lobby, there's a convenience store where you are stock up your room with food and beverages during your stay.

Very nice hotel............
Pam Jan 19, 2010
First time at the Rio, got a great deal thru [...] $50 something per night. The Rio is a great hotel, nice clean large ... rooms, 2 vanities. Arrived late at night, called a couple times before getting there to insure a non-smoking room and was all set, check in was quick. Great location, we always rent a car and don't prefer to stay on the strip b/c it takes too long for valet and too much traffic, but you really couldn't walk to the strip from the Rio b/c of expressway overpasses, no sidewalk etc. The Masquerade entertainment was lively, I wouldn't say it was family friendly though, a little risque. Don't expect much personal service, tried to get thru to the front desk the night before we left to see about a later checkout, was on hold for more than a half hour before I hung up. Enjoyed the voodoo lounge and the view. No coffee maker in the room. Very comfy beds.

Blake Jan 14, 2010
The Rio All-suite was a very nice hotel.. It is off the strip, and walking to the strip is almost impossible because of the ... location on the other side of the freeway. They offer shuttle service to the sister hotels on the strip, but not to or from the airport. We "upgraded" our room to the newly rennovated tower suite. The room was nice, but the "mountain view" suite was right above the delivery dock.. and I tell you, the Rio receives deliveries all.. night... long.. they also have their recycling operation right there too.. and that is just downright noisy all night long as well.. I would avoid staying in a room above the delivery dock. The faucet in the bathroom was leaky, and it got everything ont he counter wet.. when we reported the problem, they didn't do anything about it, so we just had to leave a towel wrapped around it at all times. Other than that, the carnival world buffett was EXCELLENT, and the casino was fun. They have the cocktail staff get on different stages around the casinos at all different times and dance to a song. It is pretty fun. There is no coffee maker in the suite we had.. I thought they were standard, but I guess not.

If you stay here and want to spend time on the strip, just rent a car, the shuttle only runs until 1:30 am, and the taxi cabs are rediculous in price. Our trip from Mccarren international airport to the rio was $32.00!!

Shey Jan 4, 2010
Rio Hotel was good, far more than expected comparing it from another hotel in Las Vegas. They even have a boutique selling ... very cheap souvenir items like shirts and all. But what I didn't like about Rio is that they don't offer free internet, whether wi-fi or data cable access. I think it is the only hotel that offer the service for a fee, $14 per day; From my previous hotel same week, the wi-fi service is free or you can choose to have the high speed connection for business purpose for only $7 during the entire stay. When I inquired about why the service is not free, they said it's because I only paid $50 for deposit. (which is the amount they required, had I known, then I could have paid for $100 to get internet acces.)

Try the "steak house" at circus circus. Unknown to most, you would never expect a restaurant of this caliber at that hotel, but its in the league of the finest steak houses, and the filet is the best I've ever had! Petit filet is $37 with salad and side, most dishes are under $50 but the food is just amazing. My blue cheese salad dressing had more blue cheese chunks than it had dressing -- very high quality.

Hunt for the almost hidden price for the day of the buffet as may be higher than expected. They charged the higher Sunday Champage Brunch price on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday all day on Thanksgiving weekend. Only one of the restaurants and the buffet ever serves breakfast.

Rio is not the all night playground I needed it to be. I paid full price for every single drink during the 5 night stay, and was asked if I was "alright" 3 out of 4 times that I ordered. AND I wasn't really drinking that much, so questions like that from unfriendly staff members made me feel very unwelcome. The only smile came from a kind young lady in the Masquerade Bar, who I gathered was an independant contractor and NOT Rio staff. If you are planning on clubbing/ partying every night, and don't have your own reliable connection, consider one of the companies that arranges VIP access to venues like LAX or Tao, its worth the added expense to actually enjoy yourself. I did not try the shuttle to the strip, nor the VooDoo lounge (fear of glass elevators,) but my cohorts thought highly of the club on the 51st Floor. Save your big tips for Housekeeping and Bellhop/Valet services. Also, the front desk staff is not forthcoming with info (if you're a beginner, you will miss out) so ask alot of questions.
