NY people are very friendly and helpful. We found great restaurants and shops EVERYWHERE. From concerts at St. John the Divine, to World Trade Center Tour and Museum, to the Cloisters, to Magnolia Bakery and The Hungarian Pastry Shop, Wicked, Billy Elliot and more. DO NOT buy from street hawker - they are knock offs and you do NOT know where the money is going or what it supports.

Comfort Inn Central Park West
Grumpy Guest Dec 8, 2009
There is no service elevator so the hotel staff use the only elevator throughout the day and have no regard at all for the ... guests who might need to get somewhere in a hurry. If you stay here, book a room on a low floor and use the stairs. The parking garage is three blocks away and the staff there are extremely unhelpful and unfriendly. Leave at least 30 minutes after arrival to pick up your car as no one there is in any hurry to assist you along your way.

Great location very near central park. Staff OK, but our rooms got missed for cleaning on day - no clean towels, no garbage ... removed, no beds made. When we complained they brought clean towels, but we had to run after them to take the trash and soiled towels. Very very very small bathrooms - absolutely no room to move. When you bent over to wash your face in the sink, you literally butted the door open. Also, the shuttle service recommended from the hotel to the airport was a horrible experience.

This hotel is at a great location, accessible to museums and Central Park in a neighborhood with lots of intriguing ... restaurants. Although the room was small, we were not in it much and the size was adequate. A very European feeling hotel. The internet connection was very slow and would be problematic if we were there for business instead of leisure. Tiny fitness center -but we preferred walking and jogging in Central Park anyway. Free breakfast was nice with generous selections. The street on which the hotel is located is largely residential and feels very safe for nighttime excursions.

My wife and I went from Philadelphia to spend a few days up in NYC. The location of the hotel was great. Right next to ... Central Park and within 2 blocks of 3 different subway lines. Located in a residential area, so it wasn't really in the heart of the city where there is everything right there. The room was a bit small. European style - which wasn't ideal, but fine since we weren't spending much time in the room anyway. Continental breakfast was definitely a bonus. They had waffles, bagels, muffins, donuts, yogurt, coffee, tea, juices. A nice start to the day since we didn't have to pay for New York prices for an additional meal.

Elf sized rooms...not a good experience
Cricket Jul 24, 2009
I am in New York regularly for business and I must say that this was one of the least satisfying experiences I have had at a ... NY hotel. I booked a non-smoking room and upon check-in was given a smoking room. When I asked to be switched I was told that the only other room available was with with two beds and facing a brick wall. In retrospect, I should have taken the non-smoking because my room stunk so badly that no amount of air freshener or fresh air helped. The room itself was the tiniest I have ever had in NY. You could barely walk around the edge of the bed. I suspect I was given this room because I was one of the only single guests there. The bathroom door wouldn't even close, so I doubt that they give that room to couples. There is only one elevator and it is always in use so you have to wait a very long time for it. Being that I was on the 14th floor, I wasn't too keen on walking all the way up. There were several things broken in the room which the staff was very prompt and courteous in fixing. Most of the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The girl who ran the breakfast buffet in the morning was exceptionally hardworking and went above and beyond for any requests that people had. Perhaps if you get a king sized bed and larger room, this wouldn't be such a bad place, but I don't know.

The best of the worst!

It was clean, the location was superb, and they offer free breakfast. I probably will not stay there again since the ... television did not work, there were all sorts of noises coming from the hall during the night, and the bed was so uncomfortable I considered sleeping in the bathtub. If you just need to crash for one or two nights and you will be sightseeing for most of the day then it is fine.

The hotel staff was very helpful. The rooms were small, but clean. We were stuck with no taxi because of a cabbie strike, but ... the desk clerk made arrangements for a car to pick us up and get us the airport with plenty of time to spare, he was a true lifesaver. The complimentary breakfast was just right. Will definitely stay here on our next trip to NY

Just what I Needed
Ronald Jul 10, 2007
The Comfort Inn on Located a short walk from Central Park West was perfect for my needs of the evening. My room on the 14th ... floor was small but comfortable private and quiet. I was only in town for a show at the summer stage in the park and all i really needed was a cool shower after a long hot day (and night) and a comfortable bed. The room was clean, air conditioned, with a working remote control for the tv and a personal coffee maker for the morning. Parts of the hotel were unergoing renovations .There were signs posted --- Pardon our appearence etc... but obvious signs of ongoing work were minimal and unobtrusive. Proximity to Local dining and public transportation made my arrival and departure the following day convenient and pleasent. 4 out of 5 stars. Great value for its location on the upper west side. Highly recommended and I would consider staying there again should the need arise in the future.

Judy May 17, 2007
After searching and reviewing each hotel in the area I wanted, I decided to make my reservations with Comfort Inn because I ... was familiar with the name and it being a chain I thought I would not be disappointed. I told the desk clerk my sister and I would be a late check in. I called when we arrived at the airport and told them we were delayed again because of the storms in Detroit. When we arrived at the hotel we checked in and went to the room. It was a very small room. My sister did not want to stay alone in what looked like a dumpy hotel. We called her daughter who agreed to stay with her.
