Nice hotel with expensive amenities
Randy Nov 28, 2009
The hotel has a great location and the staff was generally very good. However, they gouge you for amenities, for example, $12 ... to use the health club, $49 a night for parking, and very expensive restaurants in the hotel. There are no water/soda machines in the building, so you either have to go out nearby or pay through the nose at the in-room refreshment center. The center even has sensors, so that if you want to put your own bottles/food in the refrigerator, it shows that you have used their's and they charge you.

The Wharf is a short cab ride, but don't expect to spend less than $10 on any cab ride.

The Westin St. Francis was great
Donna Gene Nov 22, 2009
The hotel was great, we did upgrade to the new tower with a veiw (which I would recommended it was 27 extra dollars per night ... but well worth it) There was some remodling going on but it did not bother us at all. The hotel concierge's were wonderful they helped us out even two nights when we didn't know what we wanted to do at all. They sent us to this place just around the corner called Biscuits and Blues the food and show were both great. You could catch the cable cars right outside the front door. For 11.00 (one pass) you could ride most of the different transportation all day to many of the attractions. For 22 dollars we took one day on a sight seeing tour bus that you could get on and off the busses. They ran every 40 min. and went to all the main attractions including The Golden Gate Bridge. The parking fee at the hotel was ridicules it was 50 dollars per night. We caught the shuttle to and from the airport and rented a car for one day to drive down the coast hwy 1 (this is a must there is a car rental located in the hotel). We drove to Monterey and went to the aquarium. We then continued down the coast to Carmel, we took hwy.101 back just in time to turn in the rental car. We also took a boat to Sausalito Island lots of shopping (very over price)but fun. The best meal we had was on the Island. But all the food on the trip was good over all. [...] And we would stay at this hotel again.

When we got there was informed our room was ready. However, when the found out it was my birthday trip (65) we were provided ... with a corner room with a king size bed which was very nice. The staff was extremely friendly and assisted us in printing our e tickets upon leaving. All in all a wonderful stay. The location was great.

Not a Tourist Nov 16, 2009
The hotel was nice for the most part. The weekend that I stayed there was a convention of young college kids, so they were ... very loud and over crowded. The hotel and staff was very nice and accomidating, except the conceiere was very rude and unhelpful, the lobby was under construction and the rooms were tiny. The location in also in the center of a tourist trap.

Disappointing for a luxury hotel
Momo Nov 9, 2009
For a luxury hotel in Union Square, I was pretty disappointed. The hotel is currently going under renovations and my room ... happened to be next to a suite that was being worked on. At 6am during the week, I woke up to two men talking in the hallway. I eventually got up and politely asked them to be quieter. Secondly, I was surprised to see the lack of technology upgrades- no ipod docking station. Also, there were no shower caps or qtips in the bathrooms. While the location was great, my overall experience was ok.

San Francis, Westin?
Frequent fun traveler Oct 19, 2009
Check in was a lengthy wait and was done in a business like manner. However, they were not at all helpful for any info @ the ... area or services offered. The room had no information about the hotel services. It would be nothing for this hotel to offer a few amenities. However, everything has an extra tab- fitness facility, internet, business center, and the parking was outrageous. Everybody was solicitous but had their hand out. Even the bar was pretentious and way overpriced for what was provided. The atmosphere was posh, but you can do much better in SF. The location was great but so are many other hotels.

Here is a hotel with a great location, right on Union Square in the midst of "shopping central" for San Francisco. Cable ... cars pick up at the corner and you are within easy walking distance from Chinatown. But, if you pick the Westin for it's historical "story" and you like to stay in the historical spaces, be aware that the Westin has built a 30 story addition right behind the original structure so you must ask for your desired preference. From the picture [...] it looks like a grand old hotel....but you might not stay in that part....be forewarned. Also, currently the hotal is undergoing a facelift which also downgrades the historical aspect as bit as a potion of the interior is "shrink-wrapped"

Inner Facing Room with Queen Bed
San Francisco Traveller Oct 13, 2009
The hotel was in a great location, the hotel room floor was very quiet, and the beds are of course heavenly in nature. The ... comfort level of the beds really did compensate for the small size of the room. The only downside is that the room was very small and bearly had room for even a queen bed, and that they do not have any views except for those of other room. I have no compliants on either of these points as this was all disclosed in the [...] hotel room description
