California Dreamer Oct 5, 2009
Nice smaller property across from beach. Even with the hotel at capacity it didn't feel crowded. Walking distance to ... downtown, restaurants and shops. Pier and marina across the street. Friendly and personal staff. A nice alternative to larger, corporate-type hotels. Many of these smaller properties are in this neighborhood. This seems to be the way to visit Santa Barbara for a few days or a long weekend.

It Grows on You
Travel Mom Jul 20, 2009
My teenage son and I stayed at the West Beach Inn for over a week while on a California road trip and loved this hotel. While ... it is undoubtedly in a unique category of its own, the term "boutique" raises the wrong expectations. Architecturally the building is no different from the dozens of other small hotels and motels that surround it -- standard 1970s fare -- and not very impressive. At first sight I was taken aback, but soon came to appreciate that the Inn's charms lay elsewhere. The room interiors had clearly been refitted and were clean, modern and comfortable. The views of the harbor from the picture windows are stunning. However it's the ambiance of the public areas and the "community" life at the hotel that make it special. The gardens are lush and beautiful and very carefuly tended. The pool area, immediately beyond the lobby, while small, has been made attractive with bright blue awnings and umbrellas and was a lovely place to lie out in the sun. An extensive complimentary breakfast was served in the pool area/lobby every morning and everybody gathered for it. I liked nothing more than to start the day with a couple of cups of coffee while sitting on a bench in the garden, in the sun, reading the newspaper. Days ended similarly with guests coming together for cheese and wine taken lazily around the pool. The lobby staff were young, friendly, unpretentious and enthusiastic -- always ready with helpful suggestions about sightseeing, dining or other activities. I really enjoyed staying here and would go back any time.

Very clean place, great location. This is a charming hotel right off the water and walking distance to everything. The staff ... was friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend to anyone. This place is a good price for a nice Santa Barbara hotel. Only down side was no room service.

The West Beach Inn is right across from the beach, and convenient to some restaurants, as well. The rooms are recently ... decorated (only the furniture is old) and clean -- the free wireless internet was a great add-in, as was the refrigerator and coffeemaker. Many families were staying at the Inn, but my room was quiet and peaceful, even though it was on the ground floor. Staff were helpful and pleasant. I would stay here again.

This hotel is small scale and located across the street from the beach. We splurged for ocean view rooms and could not have ... been happier with that decision. The location was convenient and walkable to town. There is a free shuttle bus from the nearby pier that takes you into town. Would highly recommend this hotel to couples and families.

why i will never, ever use orbit again
NORAH Mar 3, 2009
when i checked out hotels and found the west beach inn, the rate when i found it seemed reasonable. but i wasn't sure i was ... going. a couple of weeks later i made my plane reservations and went to book the room. Now the rate was $170!!! but, as i had told some friends where i was staying, it was too late to change. My friends booked their room well after i had. They paid $135 and when i told them what i paid they were shocked. they said, if you had booked directly thru the Inn, you would have paid what we paid. so that's why i will never use Orbitz again. I know everyone thinks you're great. but i have friends and family who, after i got back, asked me about booking thru orbitz and i told them: DON'T, WAIT, CHECK OUT OTHER OPTIONS; ORBIT IS DEFINITELY NOT ALWAYS THE BEST DEAL.

West Beach Inn is well located with an electric bus @ $0.25 a trip / person running a limited distance along the lakeshore ... and into the main shopping area of Santa Barbara. Being more petite, the updated, modern sink was a little high. To have a well light room, all the lights had to be turned on. The staff could not have been more helpful!

Restaurants were along the lakeshore and all the way into town. There were two wharfs with eating & shopping accommodations. There are multiple beaches with easy access. There is a yacht club for boating excersions, boat rentals, etc. . . . There is a zoo at the end of the bus line . . . lots of fun !
