Pretty good, but needs some work
Wino Nov 1, 2009
The town of NAPA itself is still in the process of revitalization, but it was a good location to stay since the vineyards ... were close. The Avia hotel appeared to be a little under-staffed and customer service was not what I would expect from a hotel of that caliber. Most of the staff members were friendly, but rushed. We had room service delivered, but the dishes were not picked up after three days even though we repeatedly called and requested they be picked up. Overall it was a nice hotel, but they have some work to do to make it the type hotel it claims to be.

Avia Hotel in Napa, CA

Avia Hotel is brand new (summer '09) & is situated within walking distance of shopping, dining, wine-tasting, etc. Also ... close to main routes to wineries in Napa Valley. Great hotel!

Taylor's and Gillwood's are walking distance for lunch and breakfast. Auberge de Soleil for great and a little expensive dinner overlooking the valley--30 minutes away off Rutherford drive and Silverado Trail.

AVIA Hotel, Napa, CA
Mihalis Oct 12, 2009
The hotel feels and looks brand new, and built to a very high standard of Asian chic. The room size and furnishings were ... first rate. The breakfast buffet was very generous and a great buy. The dining room staff at breakfast were inexperienced and overwhelmed by the press of clientele. This is about the only negative aspect of this otherwise commendable hotel. Michael N Zaharias

OK Stay at AVIA
SammiD Sep 28, 2009
This is a very stylish hotel, very clean and has great potential. The staff could use some customer service training however. ... And some quality control wouldn't hurt either. The problems we experienced were minor but annoying. A light was out in our bathroom, the coffee service was not replenished and there were no washcloths or hand towels. I mentioned this at checkout. I probably should have called it in during our stay but frankly - didn't housekeeping notice? We didn't notice the missing towels and coffee service until we actually needed them! I would stay here again, assuming our problems were due to the hotel being so new. The 2nd floor terrace was super and the location ws really good.

Avia Napa
Angela Sep 27, 2009
It is obvious that Avia is a new hotel. It is beautifully decorated, quiet and relaxing. The rooms are very comfortable and ... clean. However, we found the service to be poor. It seemed that many of the employees were new to working in the hotel industry and the quality of service that we have received at other hotels was not there.

Avia Falls Short of Expectations
Patrick & Rebecca Sep 27, 2009
We chose this hotel because it was on 1st St within walking distance of a number of tasting rooms and restaurants in the ... downtown Napa area. The tasting rooms rarely stayed open past 6:00 PM, and since we were out visiting vineyards during the day, it was not a good location choice for that. Better to have spent a little more money and stayed at a B&B nearer the Napa Valley Vineyards. A few nice restaurants in the area, so that was a plus. The Avia was visually appealing and interestingly appointed. However, our room was a HUGE disappointment. They were quite tiny, with no dresser drawers for clothes, so many clothes stayed in the suitcases or stacked elsewhere. AC was loud. Dirty champagne flutes were left in our room by housekeeping, then when we put them outside the door, they were left THERE for a day. Other room's food trays left all day in the hall outside their doors many days. The Fitness Center was was small, with a limited selection of equipment and dumbbells the only form of weights. Fresh water, but no cups. $15.00 a day for Valet was steep. The Bathroom/Shower was gorgeous. However, the sliding door left about a one-inch gap where you could happen to look in and see someone doing their business. Uhhhh....not sure this was a wise set by the design firm! =) No pool or spa a disappointment, though the location of this hotel in a tight, downtown area gives them a pass on this. Although the staff was well-trained and attentive, at this point the Avia is a 3 Star Hotel masquerading as a 4 Star. At this time I would say continue your search for a place to stay in Napa!

Good locale in DT Napa.
Wine Club Addicts Sep 22, 2009
Modern hotel with Boutique feel. Great location in downtown Napa. Walk to many restaurants, the Oxbow Public market and ... several tasting rooms- all within only a few blocks. Fabulous outdoor deck on second level with firepit, swings, and comfy furniture. However, much smaller than expected rooms with very limited clothing storage.

We have always dined in the more quaint wine country towns like St. helena, Yountville, Healdsburg, etc. But we instead dined/stayed in downtown Napa a few times this trip due to the hotel location and found both Pearl Restaurant and The Bounty Hunter to be fabulous finds. Great food at Pearl, nice place, run by the 2 owners who I think are there every night. Bounty Hunter had great appetizers (the BBQ was perfect) and a phenomenal wine selection. Great spots!!!

Thumbs Down
G Sep 22, 2009
My weekend getaway fell short, way short, of expectations. Toiletries and other guest amenities were not refilled upon our ... arrival. The hotel was also having issues with their TV reception, one third of all channels (including some major stations such as FOX and NBC) weren't available for my entire 3 night stay. The walls of their master suites are paper thin. You can hear every elevator chime and personal conversation from the hallway. Valet service returned my vehicle loaded with bird droppings. Valet is only available between certain hours. You'd have to fetch your own car if you need transportation after hours.

Beware
Travel lover Sep 19, 2009
Beware of several issues with this hotel. The cleaning staff doesn't clean rooms everyday. They also talk loud in the ... hallways, leave thier storage room open with garbage, carts and dirty linen overflowing into the hallway all day long. It is exceptionally unpleasant. The valet service employees are exceptionally nice, but beware, they charge $15 per service and do not notify you in advance. They have a beautiful patio outside with a bar, but no one comes out to wait on you or offer drinks. There are no directions on how to operate the TV and the movie guides are too old. The location is nice.

Staying Centered
Dr. Martin Sep 14, 2009
Right from the start our stay was phenomenal. The Hotel is new, the design and decor is top notch. Our room was second to ... none. We stayed in the Governor Suite which overlooked first street. The furnishings and accoutrements were first class. I had the sense of being very pampered. The outdoor patio was great for lounging, the two sided see through fire place was magical, and the soaking tub was down right sinful. This is the place you go to be spoiled in style!

Highly Recommended

We went in early August, a month after opening. We weren't sure what to expect, but came away well impressed and more than ... willing to return. The lobby and public spaces have unique character--earthy yet modern. It works well in this boutique hotel. The staff was pleasant, providing a map and directions to the restaurant. We had a basic room w/ queen (or king?) bed. It was clean and well appointed. Flat screen TV mounted on the wall, iPod dock on the nightstand. The bathroom was great, glass and marble, with a spacious shower with waterfall shower head. Bed was superb. We enjoyed a great night's sleep. Downtown Napa is hardly a booming area, but they're trying. And there are some great restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Oxbow is a public market with live music a few nights a week. A good oyster place, among other things. Taylor's is a good hamburger place nearby Oxbow. As mentioned elsewhere, you can easily avoid valet and park yourself on the third level of the garage just before and behind the hotel (go around the block, you can't miss it).

Very friendly and helpful staff eager to please. Tasteful modern decor with an inviting feel. The local neighborhood is ... nice but a bit vacant. A short walk to one of many restaurants is all you need to complete a wonderful day in the Napa Valley.
