Great price, not so great location.
Jennie Nov 3, 2009
Pretty basic little motel. I stayed here on for one night while visiting my boyfriend in the Bay Area. The rooms were clean, ... quiet, and had a tasteful modern decor. Bed was pretty comfy, too. I didn't really have any problems with it except that the area seemed kind of sketchy at night. If you're looking for a basic room for really cheap for a night or two, this is the place for you. Nothing fancy, though.

The hotel had a brand new bed, very clean and was decorated very nice. Nice new furniture and wall paint. Doubled pane ... windows and nice shutters on the windows. Definitely worth $60.00. Great location, right up the street from downtown San Mateo, great shops and restaurants. I highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for an inexpensive nice hotel. Nothing fancy, but very well maintained. Plenty of free parking.

Great downtown hotel
Barb the traeveler Oct 6, 2009
I was able to walk to the San Mateo event center in about 6 minutes. The owners were so nice and changed my room to ... accommodate me with the desk I needed to work. The rooms are new and beautifully furnished. Great comfortable bed. The only problem was my shower drain didn't drain quick enough, but I told them and they called a plumber right a way. It was a new construction problem since everything is new. I could walk to any number of restaurants in town.

The rooms very very nice, however, not all of the rooms had been completed of their renovation. Did not care for the idea ... that workers were there 7 days a week. Continental breakfast was decent, but not great. But all in all we had a very nice stay.

Diamond in the Rough
Kyra's Closet www.kyrascloset.com Jul 19, 2009
I have worked in the Hospitality industry, have stayed at a lot of hotels, watched a lot of HGTV,and I must say this motel is ... a diamond in the rough. It looks just like it does in the photos. The lobby is outstanding with the tile inlay. The room decor with the bedspread, and fluffed pillows, with the chocolate color headboard and side tables were beautiful. They spared no exspense on the decorations. It is what you would call simple chique. The only thing that threw me off was the saturday morning construction, but everything was outstanding. The tilework in the bathroom made me feel like I was at a dayspa. Once they are finished with the construction it will be a top notch motel.

Soon To Be Californian Jul 18, 2009
Although the hotel was under construction, you could tell they were doing their best to make the rooms the best they possibly ... could. The breakfast was great and the service was wondeful. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and if I need a hotel in San Mateo in the future, this will be my choice.

Decent motel for a great price!
MakerFaireDevotees May 31, 2009
We were in town for the Maker Faire at the San Mateo County Expo Center and this motel was super cheap and 4 blocks from the ... expo center. They are in the process of renovating but we couldn't hear the construction and weren't bothered by it in any way. Nice clean room with new furniture and for the price we'd definitely stay again. I have to mention the breakfast (though my boyfriend says it's not worth mentioning). They have a breakfast room and offer "free continental breakfast" but they only had dry toast and bagels, no coffee, tea or even cereal (I would have been happy with a little hot water or a microwave so I could make my own packet of instant oatmeal but maybe I'm too cranky about that). I like it when you can pop in for a pastry and a coffee but they just don't have that part together yet. Maybe after construction is complete they'll offer a true continental breakfast. It's on El Camino Real just a hop and a skip from downtown (by car). There is a grocery store and a drug store as well as several restaurants (pizza, Thai, Chinese, sushi) within walking distance. As for the reviewer who felt unsafe and checked out. . . I didn't have that experience at all. The motel is run by a very nice family and it's not in a sketchy part of town. I mean it's not a fancy place but we walked back from expo center at 8pm (we didn't take the alley of course) and felt perfectly safe. It's on a busy street and it's not upscale but it's cheap and clean and oh so close to the expo center! Don't expect to be pampered but if you're in town for a show this is a great place to stay.
