sexy hotel but, may be to sexy
standard guy Oct 17, 2009
I have hung out at the Standard Hotel in West Hollywood but this was my first time staying with them. The Hotel has ... everything right: Hip, great staff, great location, the best bath products, magazines in the rooms, stylish lounges, good food, super sexy atmosphere however, the room may reflect that charged vibe a little more than one would want to know. The room is small but minimally /tastefully decorated which, is fine. I did not have a view of the great pool area but one of Sunset blvd. and some of L.A.'s famous hillside architecture. Let's just say what was surprising or disturbing about the room was the evidence of past occupants "good" times. The great silver bean bag chair begs for you to sit on it but, I did not go near it because of drippy stains running down it. The bed's great wool comforter had one to many "hairs" embedded in it. The blue head-board shared the same fate as the bean bag. The Hotel I am sure has survived a few earthquakes (maybe, this can be contributed to this maybe not) and the un-level floors create noisy and constant creaks from the upper floor occupants. Over all the room looked good but smelt bad- old, musty and worst of all the smell came back with my luggage. I would hang out there again but, probably not stay there. To bad!

Looking for a bar that is laid back, not to hard on the wallet, good sampling of L.A. locals ? The Well on Sunset and Vine was a good time.

The SUB-standard
jerad Jul 15, 2009
Room was not ready till 5:30pm. You can only Valet park, which would be fine except for the fact of them wrecking my truck, ... and still the audacity to charge me $29 for the service. Even with that extra time to get our room ready, there was a pair of underware left on the bathroom floor. Only thing good about this place, front desk and pool side service was great. All the other employees are rude.

Very Hollywood but a bit noisy
FLPhotog Jul 14, 2009
The Standard was very Hollywood, as evidenced by waiting for the valet to get my car and I look to my right, and standing ... there is Matthew Perry also waiting for his car. The decor is very Austin Powers and retro, and if you are into partying, it's a great place to hang out and lounge at night. But overall, the hotel was very very very noisy from the plumbing and pipes to the crazy people running up and down the halls, to the thin walls hearing the party on the other side of the wall. Also, the beds were hard the covers were too thin, I had to ask for extra covers to stay warm. If you are looking for a good night sleep, this isn't the hotel for you.

Nice lobby, rooms nothing special
Mel Jun 3, 2009
Very convenient that their resturaunt is open 24/7. The "club" at the hotel was small and VERY crowded. Pool looked nice but ... I never saw anyone swim in it. The surrounding area at night is mostly the club scene type dressed to impress, but if you walk down the hill a bit, the gay bars are fun and pretty chill. The hotel itsself is kind of 60s retro. I hear the standard downtown is more impressive.
