The Doubletree Experience
Traci Jan 1, 2010
The hotel was clean, the elevators were extremely slow and crowded. We were on the 9th floor and had to wait for 2 ... elevators, sometimes 3 to come by before we could get in to go upstairs. We usually just walked down the 9 flights to get out. The location was ok but a long walk to Rockefeller Center. The rooms are tiny, but for the price, they were clean and we didn't spend much time there anyway.

Leaning tower of Doubletree?
Hokie in NYC Dec 14, 2009
Close to Macy's (4 blocks) and Times Square (9 blocks), even walking with our three-year old. Easy access to the Subway (one ... block) headed to financial district or upper west side. Very attentive staff, especially when we were given a handicapped room (no tub in the bathroom) and the water leaked out of the shower profusely (was the whole building leaning so the water went into the bathroom and into the room and not down the drain???). We used towels to buffer the water back into the shower basin and called for extra towels. Front desk personnel were very friendly and got the request taken care of quickly from housekeeping. Elevator issue is pretty bad at rush hour...think about requesting a lower floor room and taking the stairs.

Get an all day subway pass for $8.25. Subway station is just one block away on 28th street..which will take you uptown or downtown. There is also a deli on each corner of the hotel..serving cheap breakfasts, lunch or dinners. Good for when you are on a budget!

Fair location for short stay in NYC
PAB Nov 3, 2009
Rooms were pretty small but very clean. Hotel is good for a couple of nights, but I would feel claustrophobic if I had to ... stay longer than that. You either have to get a taxi or subway if you want to visit major attractions as hotel is pretty much out of the way.

lukewarm at best
traveler Sep 22, 2009
The room looked new and fresh. Super clean. The shower water never heated up. Fresh towels were put in the room but only ... one bath towel I had to call for a 2nd one. The cleaning staff forgot to replenish the coffee bar. I had to call the front desk at 1:00 A.M. to ask them to have the room below us turn off the blaring vibrating music. The hotel staff were very friendly and responsive but the lack of hot water was the biggest problem.

Poor location and service
Weekend Visitor Sep 7, 2009
We could not check in before check-in time. Staff was not very helpful storing luggage and lobby restrooms were broken, so ... had to use bathroom in a guest room on second floor. Housekeeping was noisy in hallway outside our room, as was THE ICE MACHINE. Elevator wait was VERY long. Room itself was small but nice. Nice linens and amenities but mattress was too soft for good night's sleep. This is not a good location unless you want to go to MSG or be near Penn Station. No easy subway access, no nearby deli, etc. Neighborhood is still sketchy. No NYC event/tourist info in room. Of any kind.
