Extravagant Mid Century Modern Ambience.
PJ Dec 6, 2009
I expected the usual bland hotel room....NOT! The predominately moss green room featured a sealife mural backlit with soft ... blue spotlights covering one entire wall. At the far end, a glass wall covered with alternating blue and clear translucent drapes led to an outside private balcony, complete with table and chairs. Add to this the large flatscreen TV... a glass and granite bathroom... The whole effect is a very exotic "aquarium from the inside" ambience. The Carmel Mission Inn has allowed unique creativity to define it, rather than the business as usual approach. I enjoyed it all, and expect to return.

The Inn is a little hard to find. From the highway it was hidden behind a gas station. If not for a few wrong turns driving ... around looking for it we would not have found it. That being said - the Carmel Mission Inn is a lovely little place (only 2 floors). Lots of flowers and greenery all around, beautifully landscaped paths between the buildings, there were fireplaces inside and out to just sit, enjoy and relax. The happy hour had excellent finger food for the price and drinks were reasonable. The staff was great. For example, we didn't especially like the view from our room (the parking lot) so we inquired about another room. There was no issue, no problem, no charges, no discussion - it was just taken care of. The new room had a view of the pool. I would go back to this place for sure.

The Carmel Mission Inn is NOT in the town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, but about 5 miles from it. We never ate at the Inn but following the advice of the front desk staff, we found great little restaurants in the town. If you travel to "Carmel", you undoubtedly want to experience Carmel-by-the-Sea. A lovely enclave of wine shops, artist galleries, bakeries, candy shops and about 8 intimate, classy but casual restaurants in a 6 block area. This is a quiet downtown with "friendly, gentle and respectable" in it's DNA. Drive down to the beach! The Beach is wonderful. Also - find your way down to Clint Eastwood's Carmel Mission Ranch Inn. Good food, drink, piano music, view of the bay, tennis and you might run into Clint at the table next to yours.

The rooms were spotless and comfortable and the hotel staff was very friendly. We traveled with our dog and had no problems. ... We did find out though that they only allow dogs on the bottom floor so if you are traveling with one it's a good idea to call ahead and let them know this. The location was fine - it wasn't near the beach but was easy to get to from PCH. We would definitely stay here again as it was a good deal for the area and very uniquely decorated.

Good value hotel for Carmel
Buzz Sep 9, 2009
Freshly renovated and definitely had that "trendy" feel inside the rooms, even though the hotel is an older property. Pool ... area looked really nice, with lots of fine wood patio furniture through all the outdoor areas. We had breakfast with buffet service in the hotel restaurant. The food was just basic, but that was all we really wanted anyway, and for $10 it was a great price for a meal in Carmel.

Carmel Mission Inn for Family was OK
Family Traveler Aug 6, 2009
Stayed in room 218 Second Floor STD DBL Queens overlooking the pool under both hot tubs. The room was clean, flatscreen, ... granite counters in bathroom, the shower was NOT a shoebox. Staff was friendly, grounds were kept and we had a mix up on room service and the manager took care of us. The pictures on the website look larger than the actual site. Good location to DT Monterey and Ocean Ave. Safeway is across the street, nice for family snacks. We went whale watching and saw a blue whale, 45-50 humb backs 2 swam under the boat could have touched them, dolphins, seals, jellies and more, so worth it!

Pleasant Father's Day outing
LeeNy=P. Jun 22, 2009
The sign next to the Chevron gas station could be a little bigger or the plants could have been trimmed well. We came on an ... overcast weekend, so we missed the sign on our 1st day. We liked the 50's/60's feel of the outside of the hotel; but we didn't expect a modern bathroom (very pleasing) & great t.v. screen!! I personally liked the bright colors when walking into the room. We used the pool a lot! THe convenient late hrs of pool usage was long enough (up to 10pm!); We walked to the nearby shops to buy late night snacks & we weren't bothered by a lot of traffic/wasn't too noisy considering the inn was by 2 main streets. This was the first time we brought our dog & he LOVED it...all the wonderful accessible walking (w/o having LOOSE dogs wandering freely)& the big panoramic window w/a long seating area. My dog & I respected the "No pet-free" zone signs, so we resorted to the nearby dry grassy area; however, I was particular about the loose pine needles & foxtails, that we walked further from the inn (around the gas station)-- we walked more, but still enjoyed! I didn't really care for the bark for part of the garden's landscape(but my dog loved it!) Although there was NO ventilation in the bathroom, we didn't experience ANY bad/foul bathroom smells that we'd normally smell. Love the cute Bath&Body amenitites & how the hairdryer had it's on bag!! The negative experiences were not having a "replaced" bathrobe in one of the rooms for the rest of our stay; our fridges weren't working to their potential;and we had no microwaves to heat up leftovers. The aroma coming from the restaurant were very pleasant, yet we didn't get a chance to taste the B/L/D meals (we were 8ppl, 3 were children, who are picky eaters)& the music during afterhours was enjoyable [I heard the band play while I was walking my dog]!

The hotel has a close by shops and restuarants. the pool is small though and cold. Well i guess its always kind ah cold around the bay area. There is a free internet access. Newly Wed Couple Get- A- Way Apr 22, 2009
My husband and I stayed a night at the Carmel Mission Inn, on a Saturday night. It was a very quiet and secluded location. ... It was further away from downtown Carmel than we expected, but there are numerous shops and a beautiful shopping complex within a block of walking distance. The room was clean, the bed was surprisingly comfortable and the color scheme reminded me of the Little Mermaid: teal, yellow, fish paintings, etc. It had a tropical feel to the outside as well: the pool is centrally located and has numerous plants and a very neat gas fireplace near the front of the hotel! It was a great place to stay in the Carmel area, although we would have liked to be closer to downtown!
