train ride on the L was very interesting for 2.25 per person. A cab ride would be 50.00 dollars and not as fast. We did have a lot of stops. Ride the train in and take a cab back to the airport. Use Southwest from Nashville to Midway. Orbitz routed us out of the way to get home. That was partly my fault for waiting so late to book but they have a fee motivation for booking multiple legs to the flight. We flew right past Chicago on the way back from our midpoint leg of the flight. Flight was cramped from Delta. They gave us peanuts and a drink though.

Excellent experience
chicago lover Nov 30, 2009
It was a very good experience living in Hilton Chicago, clean room almost spotless, very nice staff and good room service. ... But sometimes they respond orders kind of late. The location is perfect, we can easily walk to several view of interests and the transportation was convenient from there. It would be better if access to the internet doesn't cost anything.

George and Mark's Trip to Chicago
Southern Traveler Nov 14, 2009
We went to visit Chicago for a college visit. The hotel was great. We did not use hotel facilities that much as there were ... lots of great places to eat within several blocks of the hotel across from Lincoln Park or Grant Park not sure which. Deep Dish Pizza at Exchequor Pub and Restaurant is a requirement of the visit.(very filling - one is enough) For meat lovers the Braziian Steak House was great. Come hungry to this place and load up as every type of meat you want will be brought to your table. There was also a Webber Restaurant (Steak House) that we wanted to try but did not have time or the stomach for it after the Brazilian Steak House. This was a weekend visit. Cab drivers did not know where to go. We wanted to eat on Lakeshore drive but driver needed an address for a breakfast choice. As an out of towner that turned me off and we got out of the cab. I expect the locals to know where food places are. I was disappointed. I got a cab with an Asian driver and he took us past the steak house to a chop house. We walked back to the steak house 3 blocks away. Many of the locations that we ate at had good food but friendly service was lacking with the exception of the steak house. College to a parent was a disappointment but son liked it as he was not familiar with sprawling colleges and universities on vast campuses in the south. College was an artsy college with a bias against schools in rolling cornfields. Presentation was very good. School facilities were not up to my high standards. Very Urban though. Bears lost. That was sad.

Visiting with children.

This is one of the grand style, old hotels in Chicago. Its very best feature for a family is its location - within a few ... minutes walk of the museum campus (Field Museum, Shedd aquarium and Planatarium, and a small quiet beach just beyond them). It is also very convenient for Millenium park and the lake-side. Slightly further is the Willis (ex. Sears) Tower, and you can walk into downtown Chicago without too much trouble, or take the red-line trains. The rooms were a good size - we had a twin queen room for 4. There was a decent bathroom, and a TV to keep the family entertained in the early morning. The pool was more than adequate, although occassionally set aside entirely for lane swimming - however we managed to find a slot every day of our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful - the concierge service was a bit variable depending on who was on duty. The big down-side for all this is the price, firstly the rooms are quite pricey, but more significantly everything else is an "extra". Breakfast is an "extra", parking is an "extra", wifi in the room is an "extra", a fridge in the room is an "extra", get the idea .... I would have hoped that at this price some things might be included other than a morning newspaper!

I went to this hotel for a little get away. The first day we walked and walked, it was awe-inspiring all the history and ... beautiful monuments. This hotel is located across from millenium park, It was awesome. There was so much to see and hear. There was a Jazz band there and further down there was a another band teaching everyone how to mambo, it was terific. The hotel itself was very impressive with its own monuments and historical artifacts. The staff was very attentive to every one, and very friendly. It was most enjoyable

Frequent concert goer in Chicago Aug 13, 2009
I have went to Lollapalooza Music fest in Chicago the last 4 years. I have always treated myself to a nice close as possible ... hotel for the weekend. This was a great Park-side hotel, however I had minor issues. For one they put a $...debit on my card for "incidentals" which a week later has not been returned, the shower's water pressure was very WEAK. the decor was dated,[ i know you can update classic] The staff was very nice I will say. I wish I would have booked a room with a view though, Id definitely pay a lil extra for anything but the wall and other rooms windows view I had. Over all though the worst part of my stay was when I returned on saturday the room was only PARTIALLY cleaned by housekeeping: towels were left on floor and they left the used coffee bags from the coffee maker in toilet during their "cleaning" of the room apparently they forgot to flush... Unclean room upon return from your day is just unacceptable.

If you walk about 15-20 minutes up Michigan avenue to the Chicago River, I would highly recommend taking one of the Wendella boat tours of Chicago architecture. It was fun and informative. On your way up there, you will pass Millenium park - go see "the Bean". Chicago is a great walking City! I had never been there before but it was very wasy to get around.
