Very good, but didn't achieve greatness
Limey Nov 2, 2009
We stayed here for our (low key) wedding. First, the good: superb location, walking distance to the castle and everything in ... the Old Town, and New Town just slightly further away. Great view across the bridge from our room to the New Town and Calton Hill. Doorman ([...]) and concierge staff were super helpful and gracious -- really made a difference to our stay. Health club is very nice too. The not-so-good: our "deluxe" room was hot and stuffy, and there was no air conditioning. Staff were powerless to help. Getting the windows open was tough given the heavy curtains, and it was noisy at night as a result... but we'd have roasted alive otherwise. Beds were a bit too soft for our liking too.

The Witchery, just below the castle opposite the camera obscura -- amazing food, wine and service. Thought we'd died and gone to foodie heaven.

Edinburgh is definitely a night city. Breakfast began relatively late at most locations, and dinner and the night life went deep into the night. It's still dusk at 11 p.m., so it didn't feel as late as it might.

Outstanding service
Alan Jun 2, 2009
The hotel was easy to find from the Edinburgh Waverly train station and had easy access to the Royal Mile and Princes Street. ... Service was flawless, the room and bathroom were very spacious, and the view was fantastic. The concierge gave us great restaurant recommendations and made reservations for us. Our two nights at the Scotsman were among the highlights of our trip.

A wee bit of luxury
Tim Apr 26, 2009
The service was absolutely great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant in the hotel (I don't remember the ... name) was amazing and the prices were quite reasonable. We're from Seattle, and a similar dinner would have been at least 50% more. Our room was not big, but adequate. The bathroom was very nice and modern. The location can't be beat. Just a half block from the Royal Mile, and a short walk across the bridge to the New Town. We would definitely consider this hotel for a return visit.

Classy, comfortable, great service
rg Apr 22, 2009
Had a beautiful, comfortable, quiet room, a great view. Close to all the touristy plaaces. Staff were discretely helpful ... without being intrusive. Room service food disappointing. Charging extra for Internet was just cheap for such a luxurious hotel.
