Good Place to Stay
Single Visitor to London Dec 6, 2009
The hotel turned out to be a very good place for me to stay. It was clean, and in a great location. One street over to the ... west is Queensway, which was great. It had a lot of restaurants, shops, etc. It also has Tube stops for two different lines. The only problem I had with the hotel was the size of the bathroom; but, considering it was London, I cannot reasonably complain about it. I would seriously consider staying there again.

Hyde Park Towers was exactly the type of place I hoped to find for our four day stopover in expensive London. The price was ... better than what I expected to HAVE to pay after researching recommended two to three star caliber lodgings (whose minimum OFF-season was what I would expect to pay for five star lodgings in San Francisco, had they space available). I wanted a safe, clean place, in an accessible location with an en suite bathroom for my ten-year old son and I. We got a solid deal with friendly, helpful service and a good buffet breakfast included to start the day. The room was simple with clean basics, which was all we needed. The floors creaked, but it's an old place with character instead of modern polish. We had an excellent visit, taking the Heathrow Express in and out of Paddington Station (5 minutes away), and bought day cards for travel on the Tube (2 minutes away), which provided a discount for children. There are markets and restaurants surrounding the Tube areas.

I got a room on the second floor. For some reason, my room was squeaky, every steps in my room makes a squeaky noise. It was ... annoying at first, but it later didn't bother to me. It's not a loud noise, but you can definitely hear it. FREE Wi-Fi! Simply asked the staff about it and they will give you 24hours free access code to their Wi-Fi! If you stay there longer than a day, you just have to ask them everyday to get access to Wi-Fi. The staff there are really friendly! Customer service is amazing!

Good Location, friendly staff, tiny room
Simon Business Traveller Oct 10, 2009
I stayed at the Hyde Park Towers on business, saving my company money while getting an excellent location. The staff was ... good, as were the common areas and continental breakfast buffet. The room was tiny, and the bathroom--How they got a tub in there, I don't know, but it left literally only just 8 inches between the toilet and the hand basin. I made it work and it is good for people on a budget. The halls outside the room were dirty...nothing a good carpet shampoo couldn't cure, but the other common areas where very clean. Room was clean and kept imaculate by a friendly cleaning staff. WiFi Access, a must for me, was totally open and VERY fast.

A nice room for the price I was paying. I've stayed in Europe, Ireland and the UK enough to keep my expectations low when I'm ... not paying a lot, but this hotel was far and beyond the best I've had at this price point, and better than many I've had that cost me considerably more. The staff were outstanding - not just one or two of them, but pretty well all of the staff I encountered in a full week long stay (and there were several). The other really high point about staying here is how close you are to not just one, but two tube stops (on different lines). The Bayswater stop is about a block from the hotel.

Hotel was certainly good for the price, the location was a little too far from cnetral London. The underground was close by ... and that made up for the location. It would have been nice if there were more London type eateries. The restaurants were mostly ethnic. The room was a bit warm as there was no air conditioning. We left the window open for air freshness and to cool it off

Outstanding location
mikeandphyllis Sep 14, 2009
The location is great, allowing us to walk to many of our desired locations in London, close to underground and rail ... stations, and it is very convenient to shopping and good places to eat within a block. Their free buffet breakfast was GREAT; we really liked that. Downsides: walls are paper thin, we heard EVERYTHING from adjacent room; carpets are old, frayed, and not very clean. We don't mind small rooms and maid service did keep necessary facilities clean on a daily basis. Little or no street noise even though we faced street. We would gladly return there.

An American in London
Summer Fun Aug 28, 2009
The hotel had a friendly front desk staff who tried to accomidate and solve any problems that arose. The room was typically ... small for Europe. Included a hairdryer, and our deal included a breakfast buffet which was great. It was very convieniently located near two tube stops (Bayswater and Queensway). It was also located next to lots of shops, ATM machines and restaurrants. The only cons were that the floors creaked when we walked around and the noise from the hotels across the street (which we heard becuase we needed to have our window open because of the heat). Overall, I would highly reccommend this hotel for the great customer service, great breakfast, and good location.

Can't tell a book by its cover
Peggy Aug 13, 2009
Staying at this hotel was certainly quite an adventure. Although the photo of the hotel appears to be a setting for My Fair ... Lady, the location is run-down and we two ladies had a couple of unpleasant experiences as we walked back in the evenings. Our room must have been a converted closet - 6 feet wide. The bathroom door couldn't open all the way because a bed was in the way. Shabby condition, very stagnant air - we had to ask for a fan. The first night, the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night - it took a call from me for the desk to tell me that it was a faulty alarm. Otherwise, we were prepared to evacuate!

GOOD 1 STAR HOTEL IF IN THE US
J & D Jul 3, 2009
The mattress on the bed needed to be replaced. When we sat or laid on it it went entirely flat. It was totally worn out. ... The carpet was dirty and worn. The room was very small. Our window was stuck about 1/2 inch open. We didn't mind because it gave us fresh air since there was no air-conditioning. The restaurant coupons available on the hotel's website were not honored. The staff didn't even know about them. The housekeeping was very good. The towels were oversized and luxurious. We didn't mind the subway noise. We were not bothered with noise from other guests. Great location , with 2 Tube stations and Bus stops near. Can easily get anywhere in Central London. If your just sleeping here it's an OK value. Breakfast OK, rates may or may not include breakfast so check before booking. Cost of breakfast was about $10.00. Food pricey everywhere.

Very pleasant. 5 minute walk from a giant park - Kensington Gardens. Two tube stations 2 - 5 minutes away; on three ... underground lines. Very interesting main street, shops and restaurants, not fancy, more lived in. Hotel very friendly. Noise from youth from hotel across the street reveling in the street till 1 AM annoying. Nice room but a bit loud on the street
Sir Dante, KSCA Jun 27, 2009
We were originally given a very small room on the ground floor that was comfortable enough except felt like an earthquake ... when the tube line ran beneath. The desk staff moved us at their suggestion to a nicer, bigger room one floor up. We liked the room much better except that it faced the street and was noisy throughout the night as we had to keep the window open for temperature control (no ac). Although we did not pay for the meal plan, we still paid daily for a generous breakfast at a reasonable price. We also ate twice at the restaurant (Italian) and found the food quite good at very reasonable prices, especially for the set menu. This hotel was much nicer and cleaner than the one we stayed at before (one street east) and overall felt satisfied. If we could give any advice it would be to try and get a room that does not face the street but is above ground level--the noise (mostly party-goers and a few loud vehicles) was really the only downside of the hotel but not enough to keep us away on a future trip. Of final note, the convenience of the Bayswater tube station around the corner and the proximity of Hyde Park kept the ambient noise problem from dropping this to a three star rating. If noise really bothers you, consider this a three instead of a four.
