In the winter, our mountains enjoy a beautiful covering of snow, sometimes lasting as late as June. Both boarders and skiers alike can enjoy our mountains. The lake is well stocked and many people bring their boats and spend the day there. Sailing and Fishing are popular activities as well.

October 2009 anniversary

Considering the fact that we were stuck in SoCal traffic for several hours, the last thing that I wanted was to be ... disapointed with the hotel. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the quaint charm of this hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful and pointed out what they had to offer. We entered the room and to our suprise we felt transformed into another frame of mind. It had everything we wanted. Pioneer themed furniture, fireplace and surrounded by beautiful pine trees. It was worth the headache of the freeways. My only gripe is that we didn't arrive earlier and that we stayed only one day. I don't have much leisure time, but, the next time I travel to Big Bear, I will be sure to stay at the Big Bear Frontier.

Mom from OC Oct 11, 2009
The location is great, walking distance to the Village. The price in the fall was reasonable. The rooms were big and ... clean. I would definitely stay there again, but next time, I would do cocktails on the patio over looking the lake. It was beautiful! We had a blast at the Oktoberfest! The O'Doules shuttle is the bomb.

Rustic View Lodge
Big Bear Lover Aug 24, 2009
This lodge has both cabins and hotel rooms. The location is unbeatable; right on the lake, across the street from the village ... and next door to a marina. Our room was quaint; they upgraded a standard motel room to look more "woodsy". The beds are lumpy and the charming carved wooden chairs in the room are very uncomfortable. It was a challenge to lock and unlock the door. Some of the hotel staff was very nice, some of them seemed put out by our presence. They must be understaffed for cleaning service, because the 1 out of 4 days we requested maid service, our room wasn't cleaned until sometime in the middle of the afternoon. But with so much to do in Big Bear, we didn't need to be in our room anyway (unless it had rained). When we needed help with the DVD player, someone came immediately. They have ping pong, pool table, a basketball court (sortof) and a small swimming pool and spa that was filled with bugs (but so is the lake, and my kids didn't seem to mind either). In short, this is a convenient rustic lodge with a great view. The 4th star is for the view.

The pizza restaurant across the street is great, and Starbucks next door is worth the wait in the morning; the coffee at the hotel is the worst.

momtrav May 29, 2009
This was a family trip with the girls. It was a nice hotel, right by the water. There was a nice deck in the back that you ... could sit and watch the boats or relax and read a book. The room was really clean. I couldn't find anything wrong with the room. My only complaint was that when we arrived I was asked to leave an additional $100 deposit on the room, which I was not expecting. I was told all hotels do that, but that has not been my experience. It was difficult for us to make this trip, so it was a shame to tie up $100 of our spending money. If I knew this in advance I would not have stayed there. I know now to ask that question in the future.

The Frontier hotel was located in walking distance to the village for younger people. The room was spaceous and clean, bed ... was comfortable, did not venture to the pool area. The only thing I did not care for, was there was No Ice machines close to my hotel room. Closest one was across the road at the main hotel.

Not for wheelchairs
Barbara Jul 6, 2008
The location and for non handicap people it is a great place. The staff is most friendly and co operative but needs better ... knowledge of the room set up. Our stay was difficult as they did not have disabled rooms with wheelchair access. Maintainance was able to makeshift a couple of ramps, but we had to have him take off the bathroom door so the wheelchair would fit. Of course there were no rails so that was a caution. The bed was too tall for a disabled person so the couch became the bed. I understand that they are making at least one cottage for disabilities. Hope they know all the requirements.

Very Pet Friendly hotel
Karen Jan 5, 2008
Room was nice except somewhat noisy. The bath fan and the heating fan were very loud and the floor was very squeaky. It was ... quite overpriced compared to other hotels I have stayed in. Location was great and there were plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. Nice view of Big Bear Lake. I liked the lodge feel to the place and they were very pet friendly only charging a $15 per night pet charge (no deposit).

The Frontier is really charming and has the feel that a family --even the family pet--is welcome there. The rustic decor ... extends from the pine slatted walls to the hewn timber toilet roll holder. But the amenities are nothing but modern. The decking looking out on the lake shore and the beach loungers are perfect for sunrise and sunset revelery, as well as star gazing. Wish upon a shooting star that you'll be coming back soon--and for longer next time!

The cabin was on a great location. We actually received an upgrade from the lodge to the cabin, which was much more ... romantic. The little cabin had a small frig, oven/stove, microwave and all the comforts of home. The fireplace was an added bonus. I would love to stay here again, especially when there is snow.
