I love this hotel and would definitely go back again. My room was on the corner and I had a fabulous view but it was ... noisy...mostly because the hotel is old and just doesn't keep the sound out. My room was small but clean and very quaint. The staff was absolutely fabulous.

A Decent, Well-Lacated Hotel
Hazel Green Oct 6, 2009
The Strand Palace have been making many improvements over the last few years. It is a nice place to stay. BUT they have ... nailed the windows shut so that only one will open more about an inch. With no air conditioning, it makes the room quite warm. I fan was provided, but it is not as nice as fresh air. And there is only a heavy comforter on the bed, which is impossable to use with the room so warm.

my London Stay at the Strand Palace
Lisa Oct 4, 2009
We stayed 9/20-9/26. Tempature was just right. I requested a room on the Strand and while it was "busy" it did not bother me ... at all. The room was a nice size, bathroom was clean. I honestly can't say anything negative about the whole experience. Location was the best if you want to explore the city. Did not eat at the hotel, but there are pleanty of restaurants, pubs, etc within walking distance. As is the tube. I did not upgrade to a club, but the only difference was more TV channels and we did not have time to watch TV anyway. I would definatley stay there again.

Great Location!
Loves to Travel Oct 1, 2009
Since we were only able to be in London for three days, the location of our hotel to the center of most activities was very ... important. The Strand is located only a five minute walk to Trafalger Square! And Covent Gardens is right behind the hotel! Although our room was small, the bathroom was a good size. All was clean and comfortable. We did not use other amenities at the hotel because of time but we did enjoy the Doorman! I would definitely recommend this hotel to other friends.

The room was good. Not the most elegant. But some of the rooms have been remodled. Mine was not but it was clean, excellent ... location, great price. there are no complaints. Maybe next time I upgrade to the club rooms. But it was perfect for the ammount of time I spent in the room. I read some bad reviews about this hotel, so my epectations were low. However I was pleasantly suprised. I think If one was to try and compare it to American standards then they might be disapointed. I like it! the people were nice and helpfull, definately a tourist hotel but one could not ask for a better location!!!

Small town girl in the big city
Dr. lawyer mom Sep 16, 2009
I went to London to see my son graduate from the Univ. of London. He chose this hotel for me because it was located within ... walking distance of his school and major tourists attractions like, The Eye, Buckingham Palace and Westminster. There was great shopping and restaurants nearby. For those reasons, the hotel has a great location. The hotel staff was very friendly, helpful and professional. They assisted me in arranging day trips to Paris and touring London. The hotel has an onsite restaurant that for a few extra bucks serves up a nice breakfast buffet. I enjoyed it for the most part except for the day I unknowingly put blood sausage in my mouth. That's not something we usually eat here in the Midwest. Being from a small town, I was not used to the nonstop 24 hour traffic noise and city lights. I guess I'm used to hearing frogs and seeing stars. I had difficulty sleeping most nights because of the traffic noise, people on the streets and lights from the adjacent building. Don't they sleep over there? So for me, it was a bad location. It was a great experience and as far as my European trips (this was my 4th trip) the hotel and its staff was pretty good. For the price, it was a good deal and a nice hotel.

Large Hotel with a quaint and cozy feel
NayNay Sep 15, 2009
Our room was right off the elevator bank, which we were worried about, but we didn't hear any noise from other guests. There ... was no air conditioning but the room did come with an oscillating fan. The room also comes equipped with a hair dryer which is a plus when you're a foreign traveler. Our hair dryer didn't work but the front desk responded quickly with a new one. The bathroom was sleek and clean. The hotel is quite a trek from an underground station but not horrible.

There is no late night dining in London. Numerous times my fiance and I were looking for food past 11pm and the only place we found was a 24-hour McDonalds. We even asked the hotel front desk and McDonalds was their only suggestion. During your sight-seeing adventures, make sure to make time for dinner well before 10pm.

Repeatedly requested messages from hotel operator from book-in date until three days later, since it was imperative I knew ... where and when I was supposed to be seeing my British family....always told "no messages" Finally on the third morning the telephone was showing a red message light. I retrieved my 5 messages which had been there since Thursday a.m. I let the operator know this and they were uninterested!!.

Well-Located Gem with a lot of Bang

Hmm. I don't think I have ever written a review for anything, but I did want to express my pleasant surprise at the quality ... of Strand Palace Hotel - London. I took a quick, last-minute vacation to get away from work. I searched Orbitz for some Hotels and found the Strand Palace. I was a little sceptical based on the price (~$117/night after taxes and all) and location. I decided to chance it. It was well worth it. The room I stayed in was a little small, but very clean and functional. It reminded me of my college dorm (but with a nice, individual bathroom). The hotel charges for internet access, which I found disappointing. However, you can go across the street to Coffee Republic and get 30 minutes free after you purchase something. Although the hotel lacks a gym, they do provide a free pass for the health club across the street (which was a great facility with an indoor pool). You can also use one of their 4 public computers to surf the net. The hotel location was amazing. It was about a couple of small blocks away from Covent Garden (Soho, chinatown, Leicester square were all within walking distance). There were loads of restaraunts around.

the staff was helpful and available. Rooms were very clean. They have a room fan but still the rooms got very stuffy. The ... windows opened just a few inches and really no air came in through them. That was the only downside. Keep in mind, we were there in August so this might not be an issue when it is not the height of summer. the location of the hotel is the best. There are 3 tube stations within a short walk and only 2 blocks from Covent Garden and about a 5 minute walk to Trafalger Square and Leicester Square. Walk in the other direction and you are 2 blocks from the Waterloo Bridge and the National theatre on the other side. All in all, would stay here again.

Ashley Jul 18, 2009
The staff was friendly and the concierge was extremely helpful. The room and especially the bathroom were very clean and ... adequately spaced. There was a bit of traffic noise, which is to be expected in the heart of London and no air conditioning, also expected in London. I used the fan provided with the room and kept my window open. The hotel was in a great location, within walking distance of the Thames, Theatre District, Covent Garden, Leicester square, Trafalgar square, The British Museum and The National Gallery. Was on the bus and tube routes, and I had no problems getting around. I did not eat at the hotel as breakfast was not included and they charged 15 pounds which I thought was too high for breakfast. There are lovely cafes around the hotel, and of course, the ubiqitous Starbucks is half a block away. All in all a delightful experience and I would stay there again.

This was an excellent place to stay while on a theatre trip to London. Lots of places to eat close by and close to the ... Charing Cross Underground. Well kept, clean with a very friendly staff. I would stay again, but without air conditioning, perhaps not in the summer months. However, as good as this place is, that is still a "Maybe". I highly recommend Kulu Kulu Sushi in Covent Garden. It's a conveyer-belt sushi restuarant that is not only a fun experience, but they have good food. I also recommend Wagamama in Covent Garden (about a block from the Strand Palace Hotel). Even though it is a chain restuarant, the food is always fresh and tasty. I make it a point to eat at Wagamama several times when I am in London or Sydney on holiday.

There are several theaters within a few blocks of the hotel -- go see a show! You can buy discount tickets starting at noon the day of at the TKTS booth at the south side of Covent Gardens. There are a lot of other "discounted ticket" sellers but the TKTS booth is the most reputable so make sure you go there. We saw Dirty Dancing (mostly dancing, singing was not the focus) and loved it. The theater was at most three blocks from the hotel.
