Fantastic wknd for Two
Brandy Nov 6, 2009
This hotel was beleive it or not better than described on the website. It was so peaceful and relaxing which made it really ... difficult to get out of bed to do anything. Its located right in the middle of town and is near the harbor. When booking the room i was told I would have a harbor view, but the view that i got was of the city, but it was still magnificant. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and plan to stay here whenever I return.

Rockin in the Julien
Josh Sep 6, 2009
My friends and I chose to stay at the Julien because it was centrally located to everything downtown, and we'd heard that it ... was recently renovated. We were not disappointed. The room was amazing. Windows had a view of downtown Dubuque. The hotel bar was buzzing all night long. The casinos in town also provided us with a free shuttle to the casino and back to the hotel. Lots of nightlife hot spots in teh immediate vicinity as well. I would definately recommend the Julien. A+ in my book.

The Julien bar is currently the hotspot in downtown Dubuque. LOTS of college aged people. Several other bars are within a short walk, who's tpyical occupants vary in age range. Two casinos in town also. Both have a shuttle service. The Diamond Jo is the closest and in a brand new building. Mystique is newly renovated, and is home to the Dubuque Greyhound Park

The recent hotel renovation is beautiful. The rooms are first class and rivals very expensive hotels. The money they spent ... bringing this hotel back to life was well worth it.

Wife and I wanted a relaxed and quiet getaway for the weekend spent friday and saturday night at the Hotel Julien and I must ... say we had the very best time. location is perfect we were able to walk to many sights near hotel and a free trolley makes a stop every 1/2 hour right in front of hotel. even though there were plenty of things to do in the evening after we enjoyed dinner at very nice restaurants near the hotel we really just wanted to come back to our room because it was so comfy and relaxing great decor and ammenities.. A job well done!

Kudos to the management/investors etc who sunk a ton of cash into a decepit old dog and transformed it into one of the best ... hotels in the Mississippi valley. While the bar, restaurant, pool, etc were not quite ready for business yet, they will open soon. Great rooms, super clean, nice staff. Be sure to check out all the cool old pubs and taverns and tip a few with the locals...also the new casino is huge and great and just steps away. Have fun!
