This hotel isn't in the best part of town but it's less than $10 cab ride to the Staples Center, shopping, clubbing, and ... eating. The rooms are small and conveinant if your the type that only spends time in the hotel to sleep and shower. The rooms can be a bit cold though, so asking for an extra blanket on your way in during colder weather is a good idea.

Great hotel for an unbelievable price

Love the lobby at the Cecil Hotel! absolutely beautiful!Everything was great except for sometimes you can hear doors slamming ... at different times. NO PARKING. You have to pay an extra 15 US dollars to park. But other than that I highly recommend this hotel if you want to save money. 45 dollars a day plus a fourth night free! You can't beat that in Los Angeles!

Neveragain Dec 1, 2009
When looking for a hotel this one came up as one of the recommended, most affordable ones. I thought that because I was ... staying just one night I wouldn't have a problem so I booked here. The hotel was nice and clean but it doesn't have a parking lot, you have to pay extra 15-20 dollars to another establishment to park your car there. I took a walk around the block to check the area and weird looking people plus homeless starting to come to me to ask for money or cigarettes. I would say if you are not coming out of the hotel and don't have a car and are not afraid of people coming on to you stay here, otherwise stay out.

Stay @Stay
Gilbert Nov 29, 2009
Was a mistake not realizing that the toilet was shared at the same level. Wanted to change to one with private bathroom, was ... told that it would cost $10 plus taxes. As there was no room available, was told to go back on the next day. I was then informed that as I had booked the hotel through Cheapticket, it will be considered an upgrade and required to pay $28.80!! Was very disappointed!

DOWN TOWN LA IS GETTING A MAKE OVER!
SUPER BUSINESS & PERSONAL ASSISTANT Nov 18, 2009
We found a trendy up beat hip place in the newly made over down town Los Angeles. We were pleasently surprised to find a ... cool mix of the modern, Japanese style format to what they have known how to service the modern traveler for decades. The service was great, friendly and outgoing, they gave us great dinning recommendations that were all they said they would be and more. Downtown LA is turning into a modern hip trendy new metropolish of flats, studios, lofts and great trendy places like . . . STAY! We loved it and will stay there again when looking to have a fun time at a great price. Love you STAY, take a chance and you sometimes find small golden nuggets like STAY!

Mostly just used the room to sleep. i would have liked to take a bath. It was quiet enough for me and had no problems whatsoever. thankyou

It was the worst 2 days. Our room didn't have air conditioner, they have ceiling fan and window. The room was hot and on top ... of that the room doesn't have a bathroom. The bathroom and shower was down the hall. The front desk wasn't that friendly.

Overall experience was good. The hotel was very modern in style and taste. I could enjoy the diversity in staff as well as ... hotel guests. The lack of an ice machine was a small problem BUT not enough to make me not enjoy my stay. Onsite coffee shop, local eateries, close to public transportation, attractions, and shopping were a definate plus!

Not Satisfied
Ric and Glo Jul 29, 2009
We were disappointed to find that there was no air-conditioning, and no free car parking. We had to pay $10.00 across the ... street for parking, everytime we come in and out. Indeed, it was very uncomfortable. I guess I was not paying attention when I booked in the internet about the shared bathroom, which is not really acceptable to us. So we had to upgrade to a room with a bathroom inside, for an additional charge of $22.80/day (quite expensive). We only stayed there the night of our arrival in LA and the night before we left LA. Not comparable to our previous trips that we have taken.

Within long-walking or short-driving distance to Staples Center, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Mark Taper Forum, and Walt Disney Theater. You like movies? The Bradbury Building featured in "Blade Runner" is just a few blocks away, as well as the corner of Figueroa and 2nd, the site of the gun battle in the movie "Heat". Cool locations from the movies!!

Check out the Sneakers! There are tons of cheap sneaker shops in downtown LA, near 5th and Broadway or 4th and Main. Google doesn't show these, so you'll just have to look around for them. There's another awesome shoe store called Footland in little Tokyo that has great prices. Most of these shops carry Adidas, Converse, Rebok, Vans, DC, and sometimes Diesel if you're lucky (and have a small foot). You can find some really awesome colors and limited edition runs if you're lucky.

This hotel is located within a couple blocks of the LA fashion (fabric) district. Walking around here will make you feel liked you have been transported to Hong Kong. As a fabric designer I really enjoyed his area. Also close by is one of the old California missions- can't remember it's name and didn't visit on this trip but hope to return to check it out.
