Overall a GREAT value.
chj Oct 26, 2009
The rooms were nice...my three main issues with this hotel was paper thin walls and doors (could hear house cleaning in the ... early morning slamming doors and cleaning, etc); the elevator system is aweful (Very SLOW and takes a long time to go up or down even though there are 4 elevators); and lastly the water pressure of the shower is aweful (It drips, not runs...would expect more for the $)

Great place to stay if you a "tourist"
Emily Oct 26, 2009
This was a superb hotel to stay at if you want to see all of Chicago's "touristy" attractions. They start by greeting you ... with warm cookies. The staff are really friendly and concierge(s) were really knowledgeable. The beds are super comfortable and perfect to get rested for the long day of sight-seeing. They also had a gym in the hotel if you are a business traveler, although I didn't have time to use it. The real attraction of the hotel was the proximity to many popular attractions. Navy Pier was literally 3 blocks away, Michigan Ave 4 blocks away, Millennium Park 6 blocks away, and Chicago-architectural boat tours 4 blocks away. There were 2 downsides of the hotel. The first is no free internet in the rooms. You can get free wi-fi in the lobby but that is a hassle to drag everything down there. Also, the room didn't seem to hold heat too well. All the more reason to get underneath the bed covers! Lastly, don't pick up the candy jars unless you want them because it's on a sensor that is activated when you move the jar. They didn't charge us, but just FYI. I would definitely stay here again but please... make the internet free for the rooms!

Disappointed anniversary Oct 24, 2009
The location of this hotel was great. Easy walk to Mag Mile and Navy Pier. The staff was friendly but when we asked to have ... extra coffee sent to our room for the coffee pot, we were ignored (it never came). The bathroom was unclean, the floor had hair and strings of clothing on it, the bathtub also had hair in it. The room was smaller than expected.

The hotel was in a great location and the rooms were decent and clean. The only issues we had was that stuff kept braking. ... The air conditioning unit broke and when we tried to call the front desk we found out our phone was broke. So we had to go out to the hallway to call the front desk for them to send someone up to fix it. They had to replace the air conditiong unit and then found out that power outlet to the air conditiong unit was broken also so he had to come up and fix that also. That was the first night. Then the second night our sink in the bathroom got clogged or something and there was water standing in the sink for the rest of our stay. It was pretty gross. We didn't even call b/c we were leaving the next morning. They were very prompt on fixing these issues and the staff was very friendly though. So it wasn't horrible, just annoying.

KJD Aug 20, 2009
The location is perfect, close to Navy Pier and the Mile. They were very short staffed. When we checked in there was one ... person at the desk and a long line. There were one or two bellmen at a time, we waited an hour to get stored luggage. The concierge was wonderful after we waited awhile to talk to him.

OK enough hotel. A bit overpriced for accomodations. Though location is great. No fitness room. Charged for everything. ... Automated mini-bar was on the fritz and charged for several items even though we didn't even touch the thing. Worst part was there was a very noisy and obnoxious party in the adjacent room. Did not sleep at all one nite. Hotel staff were uninterested in helping and would not change our room. Will not stay there again. Stingy on towels and other amenities.

The price was good; all the staff were curious and knowledgeable. The room was very clean and I must say the king bed and ... pillows were some of the best I have ever had in a hotel. Very convenient to downtown attraction. Short walk or cab ride made the need to rent a car unnecessary. Great stay Double Tree!! Oh, also the cookies were wonderful.....

Short walk or cab ride made the need to rent a car unnecessary. The only other thing I can think of that travlers might need to know is, DO NOT TAKE THE AIRPORT SHUTTLE EXPERSS. The price is a ripoff, the personel are rude and no one in the airport even knows the express name or where it is located. I paid for a around trip but chose to pay for a cab back to the airport. Steer clear.....

We were given a handicapped room behind one of the elevators with a limited view of the pool. Not the best of room choice. ... I tried to change rooms, but the front desk informed me that they were booked. Negatives about the hotel/room. Because the room was for a handicapped individual, the bathroom did not have a bath tub or a vanity. My wife and I had to place our toiletries outside which was a little annoying.

Don't pay for the wi-fi (this should have been free), you can get free wi-fi in your room. The hotel tries to charge $9.99 for a 24 hour period. To get free wi-fi, take your computer down to the lobby and open your web browser. Log in to your favorite site, leave your computer on and bring the computer back to your room. Boom - you'll save yourself $10 a day.

Doubletree Chicago
GMoney J Jun 28, 2009
The hotel/staff was fantastic. The concierge will store your luggage if you need to check into the hotel early and want to ... explore the city. Location is fantastic, only 2 blocks from Michigan Avenue. We had a group of 5 people; 3 girls, 2 boys. The room was big enough for all of us, and the bathroom was large enough for everyone to get ready in comfort. Walk in shower was wonderful, as was the tile throughout the bathroom. Caution: Do not remove the jars of candy/snacks from the "Mini-Bar Tray". Once you pick these items up, a batter sensor in the tray begins to charge, if it gets fully charged, you will have to pay for the item. Keep in mind these items are like $8 for 13 cashews in a glass shoe. Overall, the DoubleTree was an excellent value at an excellent location in an excellent city. I would recommend it to all.
