My wife and I and another couple were taking our first trip to Boston to catch a Bruins and Celtic game. We went to [...] to ... find prices on hotels, saw this one, 4 star and a reasonable price. Once we arrived, we were told that we would have to pay $35 a night for parking and $12.95 a day for internet. There goes that reasonable price. On top of that we aske and were told we would have rooms with King sized beds and we were given a single double. The hotel was nice, very clean and the concierge staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Our next trip we will definetly stay closer to the Garden because by the time you facter in Cab fares and parking, you could have upgraded to hotel that is much closer and save money.

Check in did everything to insure all was done right from the start. We were there to see our daughter in a Boston play so ... proximity to the city was important however there were no attractions within walking distance except for a walk along the Charles. The hotel was easily accessible to Mass Turnpike so travel into the city was unencumbered and was very easy to return to. Location is great with beautiful river views. Loved the room layout which provided privacy and was spacious. The beds you want to take home because everything from the linens and mattress comfort were great. The complementary breakfast was amazing with both the selection, service, and quality. The hotel is about to undergo renovations, however I would say that there are only minor problems which would not affect anyones stay unless someone was looking very hard for something to complain about. The parking price was my only complaint because of the location you had to drive elsewhere and pay more parking fees or take a cab and they should steam clean it.

In Boston, parking at the Boston Commons is very reasonable for low evening rates after 5 pm and overnight at $11 on the weekend. Conveniently located near the theaters and restaurants.

Not quite walking distance
BU dad Oct 14, 2009
The hotel is extremely nice in terms of appearance and comfort. When considering this hotel, the staff told us that it was ... an easy walk to Boston University; but the walk was a good 20 minutes at a brisk pace and certainly not comfortable after dark. Also, charging $12.95 a day for internet on a $200 room is a little cheesy.

OK for the money
SteveS Oct 9, 2009
Hotel definitely has had better days, but overall good value for the money. Location was OK, but once again you get what you ... pay for. Convenient to BU, Kendell square, and area's outside of downtown. Quiet location and shuttle service to T stops. I would stay there if on a budget, but if special trip with significant other, I'd splurge for something more interesting. The initial room I was given was HORRIBLE (next to very noisy vending and ice machines and overlooked an ugly cement venting area), but I immediately went back to the front desk and they moved me right away. I was nice about my complaints, and that makes the difference.

OK -- a little pricey
Traveler Sep 30, 2009
It was irritating to pay as much as we did for the room and then to be charged $14.95 per day for Internet access and $39 per ... night to park our car. Many other hotels would have included that for no additional charge. Also there was no comfortable place to sit in the room -- a hard side chair and a desk chair. There should be something else to sit on. Don't know that we'll be back.

Would rather have stayed at the YMCA
Boston resident Sep 22, 2009
The exterior of the hotel is nice, and the reception staff were very polite. The rooms--our family had two of them-- were ... disgusting. They were small and overlooked what appeared to be an empty gravel lot (I imagine simply some unsightly part of the hotel.) Worst of all, I would have rather showered at the YMCA - I spent the entire time hoping I wouldn't get foot fungus and scolding myself for not bringing shower shoes -in a supposedly luxury hotel that is not the sort of thing you should have to worry about bringing! The stand-up shower was full of black mold in the floor around the drain, which was entirely clogged so as soon as you turned it on the shower immediately filled up with gross water. The room itself did not seem very clean either, though the bed linens were clean. It was one of the more disgusting hotel experiences I have ever had in the US. Also, to top it all off, the pillows, in the words of my grandmother "were like bricks." Do NOT recommend. The Royal Sonesta a bit closer to civilization on Memorial Drive is a bit pricier but much, much better.

Nice Photos, Tad Outdated
Andrew Sep 19, 2009
My girlfriend and I were visiting Boston and we stayed at the Hyatt based on its reputation and the photos. It should be ... noted that the photos are a bit outdated and the hotel has aged somewhat. The hotel might be good for business travelers but for leisure and without cars, its out of the way public transportation and the shuttle doesn't go to the main areas of interest. The biggest problem with the room was the bathroom. The entire room was quite spacious but the bathroom was behind an awkwardly placed changing room and the bathroom was rather cramped. The standing space in the bathroom is also used by the door so getting in and out is annoying. Furthermore, instead of a full bath, it was just a shower stall. Another thing, there is a walkway from the main rooms of the hotel to the exercise room and pool but its shaddy.
