Some good news, some unfortunate new
MMMM Nov 29, 2009
Hotel has exquisite location for seeing shows, eating at restaurants. The staff is friendly and good [but when was the last ... time you had to call room service to have some ice in your room?]. The unfortunate thing is that our room was too small -- no place to hide suitcases, a tiny desk, awfully cramped. And we spent the days in museums, evenings at plays/restaurants. As someone who is used to smallish NYC hotel rooms and used to live in NYC, our room at the WJ was just too small. [...]

Due to the inavailability of a larger room, along with the lack of ability to regulate room temperature and lack of outside ... noise insulation, we did not stay in this hotel. We were able to get a room around the corner at the Hampton Inn. The WJ staff was courteous and has promised to refund two of the three days paid back to us.

The good, the bad, and the reallly ugly
Wheelchair visitor Sep 25, 2009
When we were checking in, the clerk wanted to keep our credit card during the duration of the stay????. They scanned my card ... and still wanted to keep it..She explained that there might be additional charges incurred during the stay. They had my number? Why the card...I asked how people staying there were able to purchase theatre tickets, meals, etc while they were staying at the hotel without their credit card..I just got the "hotel policy" thing and a blank stare...I DID NOT leave my card and did stay the reserved time....I just did not understand them wanting to keep my credit card. Also, I called ahead and requested wheel chair accomodations..Did not happen...All the thresholds have from 1/2 to 1 inch rises which require working the wheelchair over the rise. And our room was about 10' x 16' on the second floor. We had to close the door and move a chair in order to maneuver the wheel chair into the bathroom. And, once you have to get on an elevator, it really does not matter which floor you are on. The floors are all the same once you enter the elevator. Anyway, not handicap-friendly, at all. Maid service, cleanliness of the room, doormen, and clerks (other than the registration) were excellent. Excellent location for the theatres we wished to see and restaurants and Times Square...

The House of Brews is located just a couple doors down from the Washington Jefferson. They have great bartenders, great food and they had the UFC fight on! It was a very comfortable atmosphere and their kitchen is open with a full menu until 2 am.

Great Stay
Leigh and Case Aug 9, 2009
I was nervous from reading the reviews about how small the rooms were, but when I got to my room I wasn't the least bit ... displeased. Although small, it was clean, cool (we went during the summer and the air conditioning was perfect), and had all the space we needed! What more do you need when on a vacation then a nice place to sleep and a bathroom? When we got there, the staff was very friendly and the valet was very attentive. Beautiful entry. This hotel was a great price for the quality and convenient location. I have programmed the Washington Jefferson phone number into my cell phone so every trip to NYC will definatly be with them!

Great Location and Friendly Staff
Mr. Blue Jul 28, 2009
We loved New York and found the Hotel location very accessable to Times Square, Theatres, Hell's Kitchen, and several ... others. We were able to walk around the area and felt very comfortable. The staff were very helpful and made great suggestions. The room was small and we missed not have a refrigerator, but the staff acommodated by bringing us lots of ice for our cooler and even supplied a corkscrew when we couldn't find ours! There was no view and the air conditioner noisy in a small room, but it was better then no air conditioner as it got very hot while we were there. I would reccommend this type of room for a few days only.

Good place to stay
LisaBeth May 26, 2009
We had read that the staff was helpful and they were. The desk clerk upgraded us to a larger room without us asking. The ... hotel is moderately priced, close to theaters, restaurants across the street and we found a diner down the block that we liked so much for lunch, we had breakfast there the next day. Will definitely stay here again.

Couldn't check in early but hotel staff was very nice and accommodating with bags. Hotel was very clean and the room was also ... clean, although the air conditioner unit in the room was not the best. Overall, we were happy and would stay there again.

Just what we were looking for.
Hannah Dec 17, 2007
This was our first visit to NYC and the Washington Jefferson, but we will definitely return! We were unsure of our proximity ... to Times Square but soon found out that everything we wanted to do was in walking distance. Sure the rooms are small but it seems all the rooms in NYC are small, lol. However, it was very clean and I was impressed with the quality of towels & bed linens. The room smelled good & clean and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was so helpful also.

Raleigh Jun 17, 2007
THIS HOTEL WAS VERY CONVENIENT TO TIMESQUARE AND WITH IN WALKING DISTANCE TO THE MAIN STREAM OF ALL SIGHTS AND BROADWAY ... SHOWS. THE ROOM ON THE OTHER HAND WAS VERY SMALL ALMOST TOO SMALL, NOT ENOUGH ROOM FOR LUGGAGE STORAGE,JUST VERY VERY VERY SMALL. ALL IN ALL, IT WAS OK AND IF I STAYED THERE AGAIN I WOULD DEFINATELY WANT A DOUBLE.
