I really loved how cheap the hotel was. It did exactly what we wanted it to do--be there for us to eat, sleep and get ready--and it was nice and cheap. (It also helped that Little Tokyo, which is AMAZING, was only a few blocks away!)

The Worst Hotel I've been
Edwin Oct 1, 2009
[...] The lobby is very deceiving but who would thought there's no aircon in LA...not to mention, the receptionist are very ... unprofessional. They ask me to park in the private parking lot next to hotel but they close at 10 PM. I paid extra to go in and out but I was told when I came back that they dont do that ! I always book at others but they dont advertise these kind of hotel....

Tuff Neighborhood
Average Joe Sep 30, 2009
The Hotel didn't have Air Conditioning, so you had to open the window and the drapes. The only problem with that is that the ... poeple that are across the alley could look directlly into your room. So you had to make a choice, sleep/bathe with no A/C or leave the window open and risk someone seeing you. Plus at night you have to leave the window open and at least 5 sirens went off each night I was there. But the elevator was great and there was great security.

Decent deal
LA Aug 16, 2009
Adjust your expectations on comfort and this place turns out to be a good deal. I would probably not stay too long, but for a ... short visit of LA, this is conveniently located and serves the purpose. This is in a very lively area at night.

A cheap choice. Just OK to live.
Walter Jul 6, 2009
As it's a very cheap hotel, I didn't expect too much. It's an old building so that the room looked not so clean. The shared ... bath room and toilet were old, too. Sometimes, smelt...It's very humid inside. So the bed felt like a bit wet. Anyway, it's an OK place for travellers with a limited budget.

Pretty Good
The broke college kid Jul 6, 2009
A friend and I stayed at the Cecil for 3 nights while we were in LA for AX, a convention. The service was pretty good. I had ... heard some pretty awful things about the hotel, and considering it was only $50 a night for the both of us, I was expecting some REALLY ugly things. The staff were always friendly and ready to help us, there were always taxis just in case, and it was only a 20 min walk to the convention center. The only thing that I didn't like was we had to ask for everything--towels, washcloths, an iron, etc. They were nice and gave it all to us, but it was just kind of annoying to have to ask in the first place. (And P.S.: there are NO ironing boards!)

Great Value for downtown
Convention Goer Jun 15, 2009
Orbitz had a great price for the room with shared bathroom/shower. We opted for the $10 more to have our own shower etc. Add ... in $10 for overnight parking in a nearby lot and plan to move your car by 9am or pay day rate. Has a beautiful lobby and is great for the price and location. We had no problems.
Traveler type: Business
Try to negotiate and IN/OUT arrangement with the lot right next door to the hotel. They will sometimes do IN/OUT if you pay the day rate $6 and night rate $10 up front. Convenient parking if you are staying at the hotel.

FABULOUS secret find! 2nd Stay at Cecil
Coast2Coast Jun 2, 2009
From the second I walked in the staff was friendly, professional and upbeat that fit the area. It is geared to a more NY or ... European style traveler that appreciates quality for what they are paying. This was my second stay at Cecil and I will continue to stay there when in the area and recommend this location to others. Remember this isnt the Ritz Carlton and it doesn't boast being a 5 star hotel - but it is in a preserved stunner of a building and that helps make the trip worth the stay.
Traveler type: Business
The hotel is one amazing money saving treat. With what you save on the room you can spend in the fashion district or art galleries that are both around the corner. There is a darling cafe in the hotel that serves light lunches and Starbucks coffee (Im not a Starbucks fan; but if someone is - they have it there). Take a walking trip through Downtown Los Angeles and see the Million Dollar Theater and the Bradbury Building and many more that simply amazing.

HORRIBLE! DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
Foxxy82 May 25, 2009
BEWARE! LOOKS ARE DECEIVING!I went to check in at this hotel with my sister and my son. When you walk-in, its guarded by ... security as you walk into a beautiful, old-fashioned lobby. At first you're like, "Wow! What a hotel! The rooms are going to be just as great!" Haha, yeah right! We walked into the room and its pretty much half the size of a typical bedroom. There is no bathroom- you actually have to walk out in the scary hallway and share the bathroom and showers with the other guests staying there! You only get a little sink with a mirror. When we were tripping out on how creepy and disgusting this room was, my sister turned on the water, and with a loud splatter, brown liquid poured out! Not to mention, there was no comforter on the full size bed, and when you walk to the window, its completely dark as you see the scary, haunting windows across the way. Luckily after we complained about how creepy and awful this room was, we were upgraded to a some-what better room next door. I plan on complaining to Orbitz about this room and I hope to get my money back. Do not...I repeat- DO NOT stay here...unless you want a cheap room [*]
