Showboat
Concert Crasher Feb 1, 2010
Our trip to the Showboat was mainly to see a concert at the House of Blues. We stayed over because we didn't want to worry ... about driving home late. We arrived and waited in a long line to check in, which is understandable for a Friday night. After checking in, we went into the room to be fairly disappointed. I paid extra for this room, but I should have just went with the standard because it would have been the same. The "Beach front" view was a view of the parking garage, the room itself was small, barely fitting the bed. The only nice thing I would say would be the size of the bathroom, which was gorgeous. I also felt like I could hear every person's conversation in the rooms surrounding ours. Wouldn't recommend spending a lot of money here.

The House of Blues has amazing concerts. The sound is fantastic! Just get seats in the balcony in case you are claustrophobic!

Very nice taking our bags and parking the car. Found you can't park anywhere in A/C without paying for it. Did valet twice ... and thought it took a little long for them to retreive the car. Found A/C also does not plow snow, ever. Driving was terrible!

Got a great deal, had a great time.
Russ Tudman Jan 25, 2010
This is a hotel & casino in Atlantic City, so the review scale is a lot different than your average Best Western. We chose it ... because we got a great last minute deal, and in a town like AC, I'd bet those aren't hard to come by. In terms of the Showboat as a hotel, it scores high across the board. No complaints whatsoever. Nice room, very clean, exceptionally quiet, big downy pillows. All great. The Showboat casino, though, is on the sleepier side compared to some of the other big hitters in the neighborhood, but it's definitely serviceable and the Taj and Resorts are steps away when you want to switch up your surroundings. If you make it out in the daytime, the boardwalk is fun too. The restaurants at Showboat were pretty lackluster though. Compared to an average anywhere hotel restaurant, they're probably about the same, which makes them seem all the more disappointing in the AC context. We wound up at the dance club pretty late at night and were surprised and delighted with how genuinely fun and low key it was. All the staff we came across were very nice and helpful no matter what time of day or night. In summation, great place to stay and some real fun to be had, but in terms of an AC trip, you'll probably want to get out and about a bit too.

Myself and my 2 adult daughters went to Atlantic City and met other family members for light gambling and to be together to ... have a fun 2 day getaway. Unfortunately 1 member of our family had a serious medical emergency while there. The Showboat staff could not have been more helpful with this emergency. Offering free transportation to hospital as well as other special services. The emergency required a hospital stay of a few days and I can not say enough about all the staff i dealt with from higher up staff down to the bartenders and housekeeping staff. very caring and professional staff.

We were very impressed with a restaraunt in the Taj Mahal restaraunt adjacent to the Showboat. It is called "Plates". They have a very varied menu obviously made to please a variety of tastes. Price very reasonable. portions were large and service was friendly and great.

Realtor on the Move Dec 9, 2009
Potato chips on the carpet, hair in the bathtub, offensive Fox news on the TV and not much else. But at least the lock on the ... door to my room in the new tower wasn't too loosely attached to the door. Oh no, yes it was. Only one full service restaurant open in the whole complex. Excellent Italian dining. Casino crawling with sad looking elderly who didn't appear to be having any fun. Their electric [motor]chairs presented a navigational hazard. They should install traffic lights on the casino floor. Apparently you need to seek out a kiosk to comp your parking. Too bad the kiosks were shut down. But hey, the room was cheap!

Went to Il Mulino in the Taj Mahal (next door) and it was the best meal I've ever had. The atmosphere, service and food were all amazing. It was a little expensive ($158 for two people, I had a half-bottle of wine and he had three absolute and cranberries) but worth every penny.

26Squirrel Nov 18, 2009
Rooms were BIG and very clean! Bathroom was spacious and the beach view was awesome! If you are in AC to gamble, this is a ... good location. The casino was clean and staff was very friendly. The upstairs cafe was good. We were looking to eat at the buffet, but was not open during the week for breakfast. We had dinner and the selection was enormous! We would definitely stay again! Only drawback is the other casinos are about a 10 - 15 minute walk. Taj Mahal and Resorts Casinos are next door. The outlet stores are not walking distance, but along the strip.

To all the people who are staying there initially and who aren't "Diamond" or "Platinum" members, try this: Out front there is free customer parking, check in, then pull your car into the self-park garage. Otherwise you'll have to pay the parking fee which can be up to $15 on weekends.

If you go for a show at the House of Blues, eat in the House of Blues restaurant, you will get a ticket to 'pass the line' so you wait in a shorter line for the show! We ate around 5:30, doors opened at 7pm for the show so we got in line right at 7pm and walked right in to a front row spot - it was perfect.

You can self park but it's far away. Park by the elevator in the garage or drop off the luggage and then park. Don't pay for parking if you're staying at the hotel--it's a little confusing. Also, the Total Rewards line is long early on Saturday and Sunday because of busloads of day visitors. Come back later when the line's shorter.
