NO AMENITIES. Have low expectations
The Traveler Oct 11, 2009
Was there for business. So a few amenities would have been nice. Rooms do not have an ironing board which of course means no ... iron. Rooms also do not have a hair dryer. Ice machine? How about on the bottom floor-waaaaay at the end of the corridor. Not on every floor. In fact any concessions machines are outside on the first floor. Hotel is very old so all of doors slam and can be heard and felt by neighboring rooms. TV is an old 19" tube kind with a few channels A/C is a little $50 wall unit, that barely works. In my room the ceiling was peeling off and the patio door would not lock. Two of the bulbs were also burned out. Do NOT pay extra for the Garden view. They DON'T have a garden. Now if you can get the ocean view, it is not bad. They also charge for internet. Most hotels offer this free these days. The pillows were about as old as the hotel. Overall, if all you need is a place to sleep and do not need any amenities this may work for you. If however you want to feel comfortable, do your hair, iron your clothes, and rest, go elsewhere. Staff was friendly.

I have stayed at the Kona Seaside several times. It is a small hotel, but it has a great big view. I get the premiun ocean ... view room which is unbeatable and I enjoy it everytime I am there. This isn't a five-star hotel but it has everything you need, it is clean, the staff is friendly and accommodating, and you just can't beat it for the price. It is within walking distance to every restaurant and business on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona, and has a restaurant on the premesis.

Very Nice Hotel
Lisa Aug 28, 2009
Great view of garden, ocean and city lights from our Tower room with balcony. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room very ... comfortable. Exceptional value. I would stay here again. Would have liked to have had coffee every AM, but we were often still in bed @ 7AM and the coffee is usually removed @ that time. Located near several Restaurants and shops. ABC store located across the street from hotel. ABC stores are reasonably priced. We purchased souvenirs as well as tasty sandwiches for breakfast or lunch on the go. Watch for the turtles swimming off the beach, at the pier. We stayed on Hawaii for 5 days and put 580 miles on the car. The Big Island will surprise you every few miles.

For snorkeling, walmart has a good selection of snorkeling gear. be sure to put on plenty of sunscreen. I've never been burned on my legs, so I neglected that part of my body when putting on sunscreen. Boy was I in for a shock. After the first day of snorkeling, the back of my legs were all burnt pretty severely.

About a half mile there is a great restaurant, Huggos, a bit pricy but yummy. Right next door is Huggos on the Rocks, your table and chairs sink into the sand but the food is wonderful and a bit cheaper. A lot of shops are within a very short walking disance and have wonderful stuff to take back home.
