This was my 4th visit to NOLA and I wanted to stay in someplace different but was a little timid about choosing a place. I ... weighed a lot of the opinions here and on other sites and finally chose The Hotel St Marie. I'm so glad I did. You couldn't have asked for a better staff, the room was nice, adn the location was great; just steps from Bourbon. If you are a light sleeper that will present a problem unless you ask for a courtyard-view room. Other that that it's so nice to NOT have to rent a car for a stay and walk to everything. The only thing weird about my experience was that the bathroom door was louvered; I thought that was very odd. Other then that I would highly endorse this hotel.

Located in the heart of the French Quarter surrounded by great nightlife and wonderful restaurants. Hotel was spotless. The ... staff was wonderful. The hotel is surprising quiet considering it is located in the middle of all the fun. The hotel was reasonably priced. Even though I didn't use them, I was surprised with the business services offered including high speed internet access. I will stay there on my next trip to the city.

Great Location
UpStateNY Tourist Oct 24, 2009
We were able to get to places to eat, listen to the N.O. music and shop within a couple of blocks at the most. Nights were ... quiet, so it's location just off Bourbon Street made this hotel very convenient. A couple of staff were a bit unhelpful, so we avoided them and waited for the change in shift. The room was cool and comfy, too.

Due to our short stay we managed the Cajun Tours package of the two plantations and swamp in one day. The mule buggy ride (shared with other couples) on the first day was the best. On the third day we took the afternoon/evening tour of the Katrina areas, Garden tours, cemetery, etc. We skipped the haunted and in-depth cemetery tours. The Mardi Gras floats tour is also informative.

For the money paid, the hotel suited my needs (which was a place to crash after a business function located on Bourbon St. ... ran late) without much complaint . The location was very good if you want to be near Bourbon Street. <1 block. However, if you are a traveler who is more concerned with the lodging rather than your purpose for it and are looking for hotel amenities such as flat screen TV, posh bedding and etc... then this may not be the place for you. FYI...Parking is $28.

Excellant location for Borboun street
Jim and Eileen Oct 3, 2009
We arrived early evening after a long journey by road. The car valet was very helpful and the car was taken care of very ... quickly and efficiently. I felt the duty receptionist might have tried to be a little more welcoming and friendly when we checked in. Although the room appeared to be clean it smelled of damp and was musty, but although the decor is a bit dated, it was okay for one night's stay. Borboun street is around the corner from this hotel, so it is a perfect location in that respect. The staff in the morning were a complete contrast to the evening receptionist and were very helpful. The breakfast was simple fare but adequate.

Fine, old New Orleans, building/hotel
Native returning home Oct 1, 2009
The main thing that would have improved our stay was a better selection at breakfast. Generally, this hotel was much better ... than previous trips we have taken to New Orleans for business. The upgrade to a balcony room was great. We faced the pool and patio, which had old New Orleans charm with fountains and lots of plants to sit among. From the top floor (5th), it was lovely to look down on. The balcony was a nice place to sit in the cool evening. I'm not sure what the place used to be, but it was definitely an old building. It had wide arches that met the floor and were made of brick, something you see in colonial architecture. It was nice to have our car in a covered parking garage and off the street, even if it did cost $25/night extra for the valet service (which was quick and friendly). I have stayed at the Wyndam Whitney, the Mariott, and the Hilton and would pick this place to go again next time.

Pick up a map of the French Quarter and surrounds at the desk, but bring a magnifier if your eyes are less than perfect; the type is small. The streets are narrow and quite reminiscent of France. There is plenty to see and do nearby both day and night.

If you want a tour of the Garden District but do not want to pay $20 per person...just grab the St Charles Trolley and stay on it til you pass the Lee (I think) statute right by interstate. Once you get in the garden district a few blocks later, just jump off and walk around the neighborhood. It was a great experience.
