St. Marie Great Location
Peterodl Feb 6, 2010
Just off of Bourbon Street and less than three min. walk from Preservation Hall and St. Louis Cathedral. The location of the ... hotel was great. Far enough off of Bourbon St. to be quiet but close enough to be at the party in less than a minute. The hotel's courtyard is small but well kept with a decent sized pool in the center with chairs and tables around it to relax with balconies overlooking from every room. The staff were friendly and attentive and the valet service was quick and friendly for $25/day. The room I stayed in (#211) was fairly dark with not the usual amount of light I am used to in a hotel but it added to the atmosphere of the hotel. The room was a good size with its own private balcony over the courtyard. I would probably stay here again in the future. The location is perfect, the staff are friendly and the rooms are comfortable.

We wanted to visit the french quarter and the location of the st marie allowed us experience the quarter by being centrally ... located. It would have been nice had the bar area been open during the evening, but as we understand they have plans to have that back up and running shortly.also the breakfast room closed at noon and that's OK but it might have been left unlocked for the rest of the day for people to use to read and relax in. this hotel experience was by far the best we have had in new orleans (this is our 5 trip here) and we would recoment the hotel st. marie to our friends 100%

Great Location!
Travelling Couple Jan 9, 2010
The most unpleasant and surprising thing was the $28 rate for parking per day, which was not included into the original price ... nor put in big letters on the hotel website. The staff seemed to be a bit too haughty condescending to explain something. The room was cosy but a bit small, though clean (with some dust on the cupboard). What was great was the location! And, it looked like the hotel paid more attention to common areas rather than to the rooms. Good stay overall.

Hotel is good[...]
Jack Racham Dec 27, 2009
[...] the Hotel St. Marie neglected to mention that parking is an additional $25 per day. Phone calls are about $5 each. ... Shame on me for not asking, but be aware that the hotel was very careful not to mention anything about parking, phone calls or any of the other extra items you can be charged for. Be sure to examine your bill, as I discovered several phone calls I didn't make but that I was charged for. The staff removed them, but only after I complained. The free continental breakfast is worth exactly what you pay for it. The coffee is colored water, the pastries are terrible. If you really want breakfast, you'll have to go somewhere else for it.The Hotel St. Marie is one block from Bourbon St., so if noise keeps you awake nights then get a different hotel. The racket from Bourbon permeates the entire hotel, but the rooms numbered 600 and up are the worst. Naturally these are the rooms rented first. I stayed in 600 and asked for a different room after the first night. I got one on the fourth floor which was a little better, but only a little. The entire hotel has walls that are paper thin so you can clearly hear the neighbors coming and going, using the rest room and doing other things that you might not want to explain to your kids.If none of this bothers you and you want to be close to Bourbon Street, then this hotel is a viable choice. The staff is pleasant and helpful. Otherwise, forget it. There are better places to stay.

One of the better spots in the French Quarter if you like to be in the middle of all the action. You are only a few blocks ... away from Jackson Square, French Market Place, Cafe Dumont -- just everything! We've been coming to NOLA every year since 1983, stayed once in our travels at Hotel St Marie, and now we're back again.....seems 'Katrina' can't spoil charater and tradition.

This was my 4th visit to NOLA and I wanted to stay in someplace different but was a little timid about choosing a place. I ... weighed a lot of the opinions here and on other sites and finally chose The Hotel St Marie. I'm so glad I did. You couldn't have asked for a better staff, the room was nice, adn the location was great; just steps from Bourbon. If you are a light sleeper that will present a problem unless you ask for a courtyard-view room. Other that that it's so nice to NOT have to rent a car for a stay and walk to everything. The only thing weird about my experience was that the bathroom door was louvered; I thought that was very odd. Other then that I would highly endorse this hotel.

When you walk out the front door you realize you are right in the center of the entertainment and shopping. Famous restaurants all around. The hotel's atmosphere was warm and accommodating in the middle of a historic neighborhood. The courtyard, surrounding the pool, was relaxing and tranquil.

Due to our short stay we managed the Cajun Tours package of the two plantations and swamp in one day. The mule buggy ride (shared with other couples) on the first day was the best. On the third day we took the afternoon/evening tour of the Katrina areas, Garden tours, cemetery, etc. We skipped the haunted and in-depth cemetery tours. The Mardi Gras floats tour is also informative.

Pick up a map of the French Quarter and surrounds at the desk, but bring a magnifier if your eyes are less than perfect; the type is small. The streets are narrow and quite reminiscent of France. There is plenty to see and do nearby both day and night.
