We were not informed that the carpets in the room is stained and dirtier than my garage floor; when I complained at the desk, ... I was told that nothing can be done because it will be replaced in the near future. There's water on the floor beside the bathroom commode from an existing leak from the toilet tank. Someone previously tried to fix it by stuffing rags into where it is leaking from. The management does not seem to be worried that besides being unsanitary, anyone could slip and fall because of the water on the floor. It was repaired when I insisted that they fix it the next day. They did not offer to move us to another room. The blankets in our beds has big burn holes on it and the floor is not vacuum daily (I purposely left some crumbs on the floor and it was still there when I returned in the evening). The room is kind of crowded with two beds in it.

University Avenue can be crowded and slow. It's better to go to Sixth St. from the side streets around the hotel, go South to Ashby Ave., then go East to Telegraph, Shattuck, or College to get the downtown Berkeley or the UC Campus.

The hotel is only about five minutes drive to the UC Berkeley campus and all the shops at Telegraph.

University convenient/pet friendly
Mark Oct 26, 2008
We found the bathrooms newly upgraded, the linens fresh, the room and bed spacious and comfortable. We particularly enjoyed ... being allowed to keep our dog in the room with us and even had other guests share our enjoyment of our pet as we passed through the hotel. There was plenty of parking and the complimentary breakfast saved us money. It is freeway close, convenient to other dining, and not far from ATMs and other shopping.

very Unhappy
Rochelle Sep 25, 2008
My experience at this hotel was not a great one. My flight came in late, so I was not able to check into my room until after ... 12am. The lobby area smelled like urine that someone tried to cover up with bleach. Both the keys to our room did not work, so we had to go back down to the lobby. The girl at the front desk had to call security to meet us up there to let us in. The next day the same thing happened again. This time when we went down to the lobby there were at least 10 people waiting with one girl at the counter. I had to wait yet again for security to let us know, who then let us know that we will have to be placed into another room. I waited about 20 minutes until things calmed down in the lobby area. I attempted to call from the phone in our room.. which didnt even work.MY experience was horrible. Would not recomend.

The hotel is at a convenient location, close to the highway & within walking distance to restaurants & shops. The car rental ... facility at the hotel is a plus. Free Internet access! The Breakfast is very ordinary, but for the price, one cannot expect too much.

I usually visit the shops at the Fourth Avenue, gourmet food stores, clothes, crafts, cafe, restaurants, certainly add values to my stay at Berkeley.

I was very surprised with the interior of the hotel. The outside of the hotel looked somewhat old so when we got inside the ... lobby and to our room I was surprised. The refrigerator and the microwave were nice additions. The balcony was somewhat small and the elevator was small. Overall the price for Berkeley was very comparable.

The hotel is definitely within walking distance to shops and dining places.

missing shower
Mary Feb 17, 2008
The room was nice; however the shower did not work, the heating unit did not work, the tv remote was given to us, but did not ... work. The staff said they were sold out and the maintenance people were gone so they would have everything fixed the next day. And, the ice, etc. was on the 2nd and 3rd floor...we we're on the first. The only thing that was fixed was the remote. Needless to say, we will not use this hotel again.
