Nice hotel in a great location
DanP Nov 26, 2009
I was in town to audition for Who Wants to be a Millionaire. The room was quite small but very functional. Fitness center ... was small but everything worked, a real unusual thing. Desk clerk gave a good recommendation for a sports bar to watch the games. Breakfast buffet very overpriced for the quality. Coffee was good but the food choices were sparse. Marriott Courtyard has a much better one. I didn't make the show. So it goes.

We were so close to everything (including subway) we were able to walk everywhere we needed to go. Although the room was not ... overly large as previously mentioned in the reviews- for a couple, this room is perfect. Yes, the bathroom was kind of small, but we weren't in our hotel long enough to care. The bar has a great vibe and on the weekends, the Rooftop Lounge is where all of the hip, young New Yorkers go to be seen. Central Park, Starbucks galore, wine shop, great restaurants- sushi, pizza, brunch, Italian, French and Roman restaurants are all within just a few blocks of the hotel. The Lincoln Square mall is just around the corner if you need to shop at a few "higher- end" stores. Comparatively speaking- the hotel was better than we have experienced with other travel sites. The pictures were accurate- there was no bait and switch tactic. Our car service [...] picked us up on time- each time. Promptly took us to our hotel where the staff was waiting on us. We were given a room with a view without requesting and were treated very courteously. I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful, and just had EVERYTHING we could possible want or need! But what I will take away from ... this trip is that there really ARE nice people in New York. When we checked in, the person at the desk couldn't find our reservation. [...]He immediately had a manager,[...] check on this for us. [...] went over and above to locate AND correct the problem. Good (not great) Hotel
New New Yorker's Dad Nov 12, 2009
The room was very clean and well appointed, and the bed was super comfortable. There were none of the usual amenities (no ... coffee or coffee maker, microwave oven, stationery, ironing board or iron or hair dryer). The bathroom was clean and the fixtures were in good shape and contemporary, but was extremely poorly engineered. No bath tub, and the shower stall had no door. Shower water sprayed all over the room and soaked the floor and most of the towels. The sink was square, flat and very shallow. When the sink spigot is turned on, water splashes all over the front of the user. The toilet had to be jiggled after flushing or would run all night. The location was super, across the street from Lincoln center, and the two restaurants attached to the building were excellent. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Loves New York Nov 10, 2009
Great boutique hotel, fantastic location, excellent rooftop bar. Definitely not a hotel to stay with your kids, it is trendy, ... cute hotel. The rooms were a good size, for all those that say it is small, well you haven't lived in New York. The size of the room was exactly as I expected, if not a big more spacious. Well decorated hotel and this is an excellent location, close to all subways, Central Park, etc. Would highly recommend the hotel.

We were there for medical reasons and they first put us in a large room but it was filled with smoke and uninhabitable. We ... asked to be changed and they gave us a really really small room, the bath was so tiny and for the cost of two nights it was definitely not worth it and we would never go back.

Amber Nov 4, 2009
I booked with Orbitz a standard double double but phoned the hotel later to upgrade to a superior room. On the arrival day we ... were coming late from Washington so I phoned Empire to confirm that we'd get the superior room. Unfortunately when we arrived late at 11 pm they run out of superior rooms that evening even though they confirmed it earlier that day! I complained and my complain was handled very professionally. We got an upgrade to a higher grade room for the whole stay at no additional costs and a complementary breakfast! I would also like to praise Orbitz because of their transparent and fair pricing; they said that all taxes were included and they were, we didn't have to pay anything extra! When I booked with other online travel agents in the past(I WASN'T ALLOWED TO MENTION THEIR NAME)I always ended up paying 20% more when checking out even though they also claimed that taxes were included.... Thanks Orbitz.

We had a blast
The Clarks Oct 19, 2009
We did a lot of sightseeing in NYC, which meant we walked and walked everyday. We were pretty tired by the time we got back ... to the hotel, so the comfortable bed was a big plus. The maid service would usually come to the room when they noticed we were back, asking if we needed anything. While this was nice, it really wasn't necessary, since they'd already made the bed and cleaned up earlier. The room was small, but that wasn't really a problem. The lack of a dresser was disappointing. A suitcase stand under the window would have been a good substitute. The location was ideal for us - close to the subway, bus, Lincoln Center, Central Park and Columbus Circle. All in all we would stay at the Empire Hotel again.

Fantastic Getaway For Two!
Mimi Oct 11, 2009
The Empire Hotel is in an excellent location. I would definitely stay there again. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful ... from the front desk to the maids. If you need an iron, you can ask and the hotel will bring one to your room. The rooms are small but decorated very trendy and nice. Tip: the bathroom waste container is under the bathroom cabinet. We couldn't find till well into our stay. The hotel is near Lincoln Center, a short walk to Columbus Circle, a short walk and you are in Central Park, a short walk and your are at Times Square. It isn't the quietest hotel but I didn't think it was overly noisy either. The noise didn't seem to bother me, in fact I rather enjoyed it, the hustle bustle of New York starting her day! Obviously, there were no mini coffee pots in the room, but you could go to the hotel restaurant or get room service. It was easier to go to the Starbucks that was literally out the hotel, turn the corner, Starbucks. We had a great time in New York and were very pleased with our stay at the Empire Hotel.

Use the subway! We were there for 5 nights. We got a subway map and just went for it. People in New York are so friendly and helpful. We were able to go all over, get off at whatever stop we wanted, and then walk all over New York. Got lots of exercise, too. We only took a cab to a broadway show one night.

Jenny Oct 3, 2009
The hotel is in an excellent location, and as an added bonus has a Starbucks and a Duane Reade right around the corner! ... Rooms are smallish, but that's the norm in NYC. Very clean and comfortable, with a pleasant lobby area. Friendly staff. There's a very popular rooftop bar, so it was a bit crazy on Friday night (and we had some loud "kids" on our floor who were very loud and rude that night, though, that's not the hotel's fault). I will most definitely stay there again!!

Their restaurant is under renovation and NO coffee pot in each room. Starbucks is next door, but it would have been nice to ... have a small pot to start the day. The Empire has a roof top bar/club and they play music until 2 or so in the am. If you are on one of the top floors--I hope you are a sound sleeper. The Rooms and hotel lobby had great decor and the location is wonderful. Across the street from the Lincoln ctr and just a few blocks away from Central park. Good subway access and great help from staff to hail taxis.

The hotel is 3 blks from central park, across the street from Lincoln Center and close to several subway stations. The front ... desk clerk was very friendly/helpful. We were upgraded from a superior to a deluxe room. The room was very spacious. The beds were clean, comfortable although the room did have a slight mildewy smell, which may be due to the fact that the shower had no door and water goes everywhere. My biggest complaint would be the size of the bathroom, tiny, your knees would touch the door when you sat on the toilet.
