Birthday getaway
birthday girl Sep 20, 2009
My son and daughter-in-law traveled with me to celebrate my birthday and we shared a room with 2 queens beds. We had all we ... could ask for the room had a desk, table and chairs, fridge, and more. The pool, spa, and restaurant were down the stairs and across the parking area. The pool was indoors w/spa outside and 2 fireplaces on either end of the enclosed courtyard. The staff even provided a corkscrew to open our own wine. Wine and cheese reception was held each day from 3-5 with good samples all free except for tipping. We were so close to town but also away from traffic and congestion right in town. Spent one day visiting the lavender fields and casino near by and also time in town for danish days. I highly recommend you visit and enjoy the total area this is a wonderful place with a small store right next door. The BONUS we stayed two nights and received a voucher for 2 for 1 return stay Sunday through Thursday during winter or spring. Thanks Orbitz you are out of this world.

It is true not much to do after dark but you can enjoy the restaurant, pool, or spa and each room has a dvd player so bring your own or rent in town. The staff also comes in to turn down the bed and leave a mask and foot cream by your bed.

Very pleasant stay.

My friend and I were touring the wine country and booked a room at the Hadsten House based on the reviews we read. The hotel ... was easy to find and in a great location if you're touring the Santa Barbara wine country. Our room was big and the bathroom was nice. The beds were comfy with lots of pillows. There was plenty of parking and nice and quiet all night and in the morning. The only downside to our stay was the complimentary buffet. There was technically a lot to choose from (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, house potatoes, oatmeal, biscuits and gravy, danishes), but the house potatoes were totally dried up as was the sausage. The bacon was nicely cooked and so were the eggs, but everything else looked unappetizing. The oatmeal was pretty runny and tasted totally plain, but you could choose from nuts, brown sugar or raisins as your side. There was only melon for fresh fruit which was surprising to me as its still fruit season here in California. Also, there was no toast. The service was scarce as there only seemed to be one server for the 30-40 people there were there. It took forever to get drinks and when we got the orange juice, it had foam on the edges that would not go away - soap bubbles that were iridescent and pretty but deemed it undrinkable in my book. I wasn't going to risk upset stomach on a day of driving! I guess with the little staff present, there wasn't any time to rinse the glassware! Anyway, a lot of talk about details - overall, the breakfast experience wasn't pleasant, but the rest of the stay was wonderful :)

There is nothing to do in Solvang after about 8 or 9pm!! Everything closes including most restaurants and there aren't really any bars. Plan to bring board games or cards or be prepared to stay in and just watch TV :)

A great deal of money has been spent to upgrade this property and it shows. It has a motel look from the outside but the ... rooms are well done and comfortable. Our room had an air conditioner in the bathroom area. It had a hard time cooling the other room on a hot (90+) day. Not the best location for the A/C.

We stayed in Solvang on a wine country vacation and found this hotel. When arrived, we were quite pleased to find the room ... decor to be quite chic and the room was very clean. Each day the room was cleaned to perfection. The restaurant at the hotel was very nice, food choices were very good and the wine list was also good. The free breakfast each morning was also a nice and unexpected benefit. The location is perfect - walked from hotel to anywhere in Solvang. We highly recommend this hotel.

Index Aug 11, 2009
What a fantastic little getaway! We are lucky we found this gem at a very reasonable cost. As an added bonus, their ... restaurant is very good, breakfast is one of the best i've ever had (when it comes to free breakfasts), and their coctail hour offers all-you-can drink beer and wine (free of course). The location is a bit further away from the main pedestrian/sightseeing streets of solvang, but still only a 10-min walk (vs. 5-or-less from other hotels).

Pleasant and comfortable stay
weekend traveler Aug 11, 2009
Enjoyed the happy hour and the great breakfast. Great location to walk to the town. Only a few things that could be ... improved: the air/heating unit is in the bathroom and air doesn't flow very well to the main bedroom area (bit stuffy) Great breakfast- (a bit crowded had to take meal to the lobby to eat)-there wasn't silverware or napkins at the buffet. Had to wait to ask staff for silverware/napkins (food got a bit cold).

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Outside of hotel still has motor lodge feel, but rooms and restaurant renovated and very ... comfortable. None of the typical "gotcha" hidden extras. Helpful guide to local wineries in the room. Pool is indoors, so can use despite the weather. Breakfast was substantial and good quality (eggs, breakfast meats, fruit, coffee, danish, etc.) At the edge of town, but still easy walking distance to shops in Solvang.

Hadn't been to this hotel since I was a child over 30 years ago, so I was shocked to find the place had been entirely gutted ... and remodeled/UPGRADED about a year ago. The remodel was EXCEPTIONAL. It looked like the place was just built last year! Beautiful rooms, beautiful indoor pool and jacuzzi, beautiful restaurant where a hot buffet breakfast was included in the price of our room. Full service spa! Really a great time. Steps away from Solvang and the Santa Ines Mission, five minutes from the Chumash Casino. This is a the place to stay in the Santa Ines Valley!!!

Nicest Motel I've every stayed at
Infrequent Traveler from TO Aug 4, 2009
By far the nicest motel I've ever stayed at. I am not a fan of motels, because I prefer interior halls. From the outside ... Hadsten House does not look like anything special - several properties in the area seem to have a cute Dannish / Dutch exteriors, which Hadsten House does not. But the beautiful and spotless rooms more than makes up for it and made for a very nice stay. Location of Hadsten House is excellent - right on the edge of downtown and easy to get to as you come into town. Our room was in the back and we could not hear any noise from Highway 246 - but the rooms seem to have very good sound proofing, so I suspect they are all quiet. A/C unit worked wonderfully and digital control lets you set exact temperature. Room with king sized bed had a nice big flat screen TV with DVD player, lots of cable channels, and very nice couch to relax on. Indoor pool was enjoyable and had plenty of towels plus nice chairs to sit around in. Complimentary glass of wine in restaurant on checkin (3pm - 5pm) was nice touch. Included breakfast was decent - eggs, biscuits and gravey, sausage and bacon, oatmeal with very good coffee and tea. A nice place to stay.

James Brea Apr 22, 2009
I requested and received a disabled type room but it was located in the corner of the building underneath a staircase. You ... could hear everystep above us from the neighbors and hear people coming up and down the staircase all night long. We will not stay at this location again even though the location was ideal. The cleaning maids office and store room were located next to our room and they would frequently bang the walls and leave the carts in front of our door and passageway.
