35th wedding anniversary stay
BJ & JB Nov 9, 2009
Overall, the stay was very good. Some basic repairs, upkeep, needed. Staff is very friendly and they all spoke english ... which was a help to us as neither my wife nor I spoke Spanish. One of the reasons we selected this hotel was, based on the ads, that it appeared to be very close to beach. The walk to the beach was considerably farther away than we anticipated. For people wanting a place that is halfway between the airport and Old San Juan it was a good location.

This was a great trip for my husband and I to celebrate our anniversary. The hotel was very clean, the location was great, ... and the staff was very helpful. Our only downfall was that we didn't spend enough days there! There's a lot to do in PR, so we're sure to return sooner than later.

In addition to all of the fancy restaurants, check out some of the small local places! We went to a GREAT restaurant/walk-up stand in Pinones that had great food. It's a short car ride from Isle Verde, or do what we did and hop on the city bus!

Embassy Suites - San Juan
Jan Sep 27, 2009
We stayed at the hotel for one night on our way to Anguilla. The experience was positive so we booked a room for our return ... trip. The staff was very helpful and gave us a nicer room overlooking the pool area when we commented that our first room's view was not very nice. As with all Embassy Suites, the breakfast was very good. The hotel has an Outback restaurant and a pizza place. Overall, the stay was very enjoyable.

I have stayed at this hotel twice before. Whenever I go to Puerto Rico I make sure my friends and I book with Embassy suites. ... Now I am planing a trip to Florida and I will book with Embassy Suites Orlando. Its a must, the service is grteat, the breakfast is even better, the managers reception..... Oh their is so much to love. The location is awesome. So many things to do from early morning tanning and jet skiing to playing pool and eating authentic foods. All less that three blocks away. The hotel is great for a family vacation or a group of friends. I have to say you really get your monies worth. I definitely wouild recommend this hotel to a friend and infact I have.

Weekends its not so bad, but a sunday night when you have an early morning flight? lets just say i will NEVER return.

Great time
AloneTraveller Aug 17, 2009
I had a great time in Puerto Rico. I would definitely recommend staying at Embassay. There were some issues, but overall ... nice place. It's family orientated, so if that's not your thing, I would suggest you stay elsewhere. When I first arrived I had issues with my toilet, and they had someone come plunge it out, however, it happened again, and someone came to plunge it out. Guess what! It happened again, so I went down and asked for a new room, and they gave me a new room. The room is a typical room with modern furniture and upgraded bathroom. I am somewhat picky about where I stay, which is why I spent so much time reviewing hotels, and I was comfortable staying that this hotel and would likely stay again. I woke up early everyday and went and had breakfast, so I didn't have issue with lines. The complimentary breakfast is basic, but hey, it's one less meal you have to pay for. I also did the complimentary cocktails in the evening which was nice. The beach is right down the street, which was great. To get to Old San Juan, I would suggest taking the bus, the A5, which was 75 cents, opposed to the outrageous taxi cost. The airport is 6 mintues away from the airport, I didn't really notice the planes, but if you are sensitive to planes, probably not the place for you. I didn't spend too much time in the hotel, because I don't think that's vacation, but for those that do, they may be picker with some of the details. Overall, the location worked because I could walk down the street to the local eateries or the Walgreens and anything else just hop on the bus. I would definitely say explore, don't be afraid, which is weird because I NEVER take the bus where I live. Go figure!

"Not bad, but greatly disappointed"
Michael J Aug 12, 2009
Great location after reading other reviews I found the 24 hour grocery nearby for water and snacks to be really handy. Old ... San Juan about six miles away was easy to get to by bus for .75 (exact change only) My greatest disappointment was that my selection was based on the Embassy Suites I have used in the States. The lobby was tacky with dirty floors, rooms smelled like mildew, the carpets were dirty and the cleaning was less than expected. Each day something was not done from towels to clean glasses. Being that close to the airport I expected to hear some noise but the noise was a result of doors slaming and toilets flushing in other rooms, very annoying. The staff was very friendly and willing to help with questions and directions. We enjoyed the free breakfast and managers reception each day, very helpful to a travelers budget.

We walked to restaurants Mi Casita one night and Metropol another. Both are good restaurants and worth trying. Mofongos, a typical P.R. dish were not my favorite, and don't think I would order this again. The Metropol had great black beans and rice, and the ropa vieja was superb!

Stay away from the typical American restaurants, like Outback and Hard Rock Cafe. The prices are extremely high and you can get much better food at most Puerto Rican restaurants.
--Grad Mom, Louisville, KY Jul 10, 2009
I recommend to definitely rent a car if you plan on staying in Puerto Rico. Taxis are expensive. There is a bus you can take that goes to Old San Juan for .75 cents, close to the hotel. There is a super market(24hr called "pueblo") right next to the hotel(walking distance) where you can buy groceries and bring back to hotel. You can also buy spanish food for a reasonable price. Make sure you have a plan on what things you want to see or do before coming to puerto rico.
