Location and decor gorgeous. Bellhop[...] delightful. We didn't like the long wait at check in and check out. No small ... breakfast a great disappointment. Dinner at Bull and Bear excellent (except the creme brulee which was burnt and nasty). We went to a show, 'Fela' which was superb. The hotel booked us an excellent New York sightseeing tour. A rowdy neighbour in the bar bought us lots of drinks but we'd have prefered quiet time, the staff did a masterful job trying to calm him while remaining remarkably polite. The tribute to Fred Astaire at The Algonquin was a superb end to the holiday, sadly the food at J D Maxwell's recommneded by the concierge was awful. The dessert inedible.

This is sheer old-world elegance. French Regency decor that includes genuine period paintings. Concierge help was perfect, ... whether looking up an address for us or recommending a restaurant close by. Definitely worth upgrading to concierge floor. Cost us additional $30 but the fabulous breakfast was worth that much. Gorgeous fruit. Smoked salmon! Croissant to die for. Just the best.

So Very Tired Jan 5, 2010
As soon as we arrived, we were disappointed. We had asked for a non-smoking room, and instead they gave us a room on a ... smoking floor with a broken toilet they never fixed. We spent as little time as possible in the room, not because we had so much to do but because most of what we did was drowned out by the noise of running water from pipes in the walls. We were woken up at least once a night by a loud vibrating noise, and when mentioned by staff it was implied that it was our imagination. Aside from the broken amenities, the room was clean and organized. We got the distinct feeling that we were not welcome at any of the hotel's restaurants or other services provided however, perhaps because of my traveling companion's unique choice of hair color(it is pink).

I was worried regarding the hotel based on (some) negative reviews, but we were both pleasantly surprised at how good the ... place was. The Staff were extremely helpful and nice, and the decor/furnishings were great. Not the best shower I've ever had in a US hotel, but if that's about all I can gripe about. Not the cheapest place, but a very classy, historical hotel.

Waldorf Astoria
Blue Dec 30, 2009
I have just a couple of remarks. The first is the check-in system, our room was ready, actually we were upgraded from a mini ... suite to a one bedroom suite but we had to wait about 1 hour to get the second room and this was at 6pm, therefore after the checkin time. The suite we had was on the 23rd floor and very noisy, not from the street but all sort of noises coming from the heating, which by the way was exteme!! Food: The Brasserie, was always closed! no where to have breakfast except their very expensive restaurant or Starbucks (fortunately) which is inside the hotel. Overall:The hotel needs, in our opinion, a bit of a lifting in general, the furniture was a bit "old". The first lobby as you walk in, the chairs were really shabby. The bathrooms in the rooms should have more modern appliances. The shower was sort of old fashioned and difficult to set hot or cold water. The restuarant, Peacock Alley was extremely expensive for the quality and service. Rooms were clean. We alwyas had turndown in the evening. The Brunch, which we had on sunday was excellent! The doormen were fantastic, helpful and always friendly. We realize that the hotel is a landmark but it should update and modernize to keep up with their "name". We would probably recommend the hotel for the location.

I wanted to choose an outstanding hotel in order to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. It was a surprise trip to NYC and I ... wanted to make it special. The Waldorf=Astoria in and of itself is spectacular; a trip back in time. The art deco building and interior made it feel as if you were truly back in the 30s. The staff were exceptional as far as service was concerned. Be prepared to spend money as the hotel restaurants are not inexpensive. That said, the food, service and atmosphere were terrific. The entire staff seemed so helpful--from the doorman confirming the side of the hotel our shuttle was arriving to the travel desk where she made sure we had some literature on the hotel for our own "walking tour". In addition to the hotel stay, we say a terrific Broadway show, "Jersey Boys", celebrated at an outstanding Italian restaurant, Scalini Fedeli, and had a wonderful time!

3 Stars At Best!
MBDCEO Nov 16, 2009
I have regularly come to NYC, three to four times a year for many years. I have stayed at the Waldorf on several occasions. I ... was disappointed this time in the room quality. There was much paint flaking off the baseboards and mildew/stain on one wall. Also, the HVAC system did not adequately cool the room until late in the evening when the outside temperature dropped. Finally what might appear trivial? The hotel catered a private party in the front lobby Saturday night and diverted all the hotel guests through the basement and it's side doors. At $500+ per night. We should not have been treated second or third class at what purports to be a first class hotel. After this visit, I will seriously consider not staying at the Waldorf again. I have stayed at the Marquis, the Warwick, the Ritz-Carleton,the Plaza and the Sherry Netherland. Each hotel has it's own unique charm. The Waldorf is a shadow of it's former past. Don't stay unless you wish to pay $$$$ for something less than first class accomodations.

Buy your theater tickets directly from the theater box office. You will pay no extra fees (ie.TicketMaster, concierge fees, etc.) and more importantly you can see the seating charts and what is currently available. Buying the discounted tickets in the Time Square booths is fine if you are looking for upper balcony or just cheap and less desirable seats. Go to the box office for the good seats.

World famous Waldorf has lots of interesting history. The lobby and people working there are very nice but this is an old ... hotel. My room was not as good as even a Holiday Inn. The bathroom door didn't close, if you use the iron with the tv on the breaker blows, wall mounted heater/ac unit is noisy and doesn't really do anything, heater in bathroom didn't work, slow drain in the bath tub - should i go on? I'm sure it was the cat's meow a hundred years ago but next time i'll stay someplace more modern.
